Both versions gives the whole,"Once it is done there can be no return," thing, but in the original cut the return loophole was accidental; Lois set down the green crystal and spaced it, so when the control panel exploded it wasn't in there. It responds to Clark when he returns and then..just somehow offscreen it made him Superman again. I like that this version gives you more of an explanation.
I am watching this scene again, and I can't get over what a wonderful and loving father Superman has for his father. Jor-El always says "my son." Wow. And Marlon Brando makes this scene all that more powerful. WOW.
After 12 years of re-education by Jor-El to turn him into Kal-El, he mostly listened to his father. He revealed himself to the world as Superman, though his father didn't think that was a great idea. The Salkind producers were also very cheap. They had to raise money to make the film while Warners Bros just distributed it. Which was odd when WB owned Superman. But yes the Salkinds eventually didn't get along with Donner. They blamed him for production delays and running over budget. Donner blamed them for being unreasonable and ridiculous expectations in time and budget. He cared about Superman while the Salkinds only cared about an immediate finished film. To the point they were always eyeing Lester to take over Donner as they worked with him before. The Brando situation was because initially it was thought Superman would be one film if not one long film. When it became two films Brando felt he should be paid for 2 films instead of one. So when they couldn't agree on this debacle, Brando wouldn't allow these other scenes to be used.
The thing is, as much as I love the Donner vision, this wasn't what I saw when my dad took me to the cinema. The things you see as a 8 year old stays with you. The Lester vision will aways be THE version.

@@GESSO217 You explained very well. Donner is replaced with Lester and producers didn't want to pay money to Brando for the second movie.
this was the best superman version ever
On the plus side, at least he got it back while also getting his father's arm around him. Something he wanted since Superman I.
The dreadful mistake Jor El was referring too was that haircut!
I always forget that Brando was his dad.
This is awesome!
I'm speechless.......
Greatest scene ever
oh my god Ted can you just be cool? once? please? can you just once be cool? once? please?

Such a great director's cut thought long lost. I completely agree.
I like this clip a lot!
Love this xx
The thing is, as much as I love the Donner vision, this wasn't what I saw when my dad took me to the cinema. The things you see as a 8 year old stays with you. The Lester vision will aways be THE version.
