Dallas was outscored by 17 in the first quarter and lost by 18. They won the second half. KP was on a first half heater and Kyrie was clanking wide open shots the whole game. Won’t happen again. This is the only series I feel comfortable watching every second (from Europe at 2:30 am), going down as bad as 3-0 if necessary and still believing this team will pull it off. This team does not panic, and neither will I.

Takeaways. Dallas needs to move more on offense. Too many one on one possessions with no screens. Secondly Dallas needs to play the passing lane. Let’s make Tatum and brown beat us one on one. Instead of allowing the pass to open shooters. So many times I saw a Dallas defender helping from the weak side for NO reason and it would lead to the open three. They need to stay home and just let Luka fend for himself on the isolations. I’d rather lose by Tatum or brown being forced to drop 40 than lose to everyone hitting threes. Lastly, on offense I say they let Kyrie run more of the offense as a true pg and playmaker. And making Luka strictly as scorer. Not for the whole game but for stretches. Also Kyrie and Luka should apply some of that two man screen that Kyrie used to do for lebron followed by a big screening to create confusion on switches and allow Kyrie and the big to pop or roll.

Luka takes most of the shots in the first half. That is how this offense is designed. Luka can't look at the 3 in this series or they lose. He has to drive the ball into the post and get the centers going early.

They are switching. The issue is Luka and Kyrie are not forcing their will in the paint. Our 3rd quarter run was due to Luka pushing the ball into the paint and working from there. The lobs can still come it's just we have to up the physicality on our drives, screens set, and rollers to the rim. It all starts with Luka tho as this offense is made with him being the main ball handler and he has to get downhill. If he tries to dance on the perimeter to start games, then this series ends in 5 with the Celtics hoisting the cup.
Kyrie couldn't cut it as a Celtic. Can't perform on the parquet.
Given Luka all the credit when successful, but blame Kyrie when they fail.

This was March 1st all over again, as predicted. Two things I saw coming but didn't anticipate the degree to which they eventually happened: 1) Kyrie feeling the pressure to the point of constantly fumbling the ball, dribbling into his foot, losing ballance, hitting the side of the backboard on a corner shot and going 0/5 from 3; and 2) Tingus Pingus coming from Lateevia to hit the floor running like a mad man as if he had never been injured, closing the paint, blocking several shots (and altering many others), abusing mismatches by casually shooting over people and making it look like Dallas has no centers whatsoever.
I guess the beginning of the 3rd quarter showed adjustments can work, but role players need to step up and Kyrie has to have AT THE VERY LEAST "normal" games just to avoid further embarrassment. The Mavs probably won't play THIS bad again, which is good; but the Celtics didn't look THAT great either overall - except for a couple of decisive big runs -, which means they can be even better (maybe much better). They are not just OKC on heavy steroids, they're a different beast altogether and require next level efforts from everyone including Kidd.
The long wait for this game did not work well for the Mavs. Back to old habits of dropping first game in a series, losing quarters badly. I think the Celtics have shown that the bar is now much higher than in the previous two rounds where you could somewhat count on youth and inexperience of the opposing teams. Now you have to bring your A game, cause every mistake is being punished and they don't panic when you make a big run to cut down a lead to single digits.

The only thing I can complain about is the officiating in the first 3 qtrs. And that's not why we lost. But Jrue Holiday can't have as many free throws as Kyrie and Luka COMBINED thru 3 qtrs. That's a fing joke. Especially when they have like 10 times the amount of shots.
Even with how terrible this game was, it wouldn't shock me at all to see it 1-1 after Sunday night. We have a horrible pattern of getting destroyed in game 1, and then coming back and taking game 2. Outside of the Minny series, that's pretty much our MO..

I don't think Luka gave the team bad looks, but the team couldn't hit the shots to save their life. Started to want him to just do more iso plays to counteract the KP start. It's also unfortunate that THJ and Maxi forgot how to shoot after injury now that they needed more shooting. But not all is lost for the Mavs. Mavs played really bad and if not for that anomaly of a game of Tingus Pingus, this could go either way. If TP continues to play like that, Mavs will get swept.

I think we have to admit that as much as this team changed at the trade deadline, the last couple of times these teams met up, Boston has beaten Dallas in a very convincing fashion, I’m talking they made Dallas look like they’re completely outclassed. The Mavs have very little room for error or for guys to have bad nights honestly. I still believe, but if we lose in similar fashion game 2, then I think the series is most likely done. Thankfully we never lose two games in a row 😎

Period. Point Blank. We have been doing this the entire playoffs honestly and fortunately for us, teams like the Clippers, Thunder and Timberwolves were not as efficient beyond the arc.

I'm sorry but Green and Hardy are not playable in this series. Exum is a better and larger defender, 3 point shooter and playmaker. He had a mediocre game against the Clippers and has since played three minute spurts where he can't really prove himself. Give Exum a chance
Green is unplayable, but Exum only had good + and - numbers because he was on the floor with Hardy at the end of the game when he put up 9 points in 5 minutes. If anything Hardy should be playing significantly more, he is our 3rd most talented scorer by a country mile.
KY lost his last 11 games against Boston. He must be spooked by Lucky.

Clown show. Weak analysis. Game 1 is this series in a nut shell. Mavs are overmatched as were most other teams in the NBA this season. Look at the games Boston lost this postseason. It takes an incredible, efficient shooting performance PLUS an off-night for Boston just to beat them.
Mavs have a great future. Luka will do amazing things in the league. But it's Boston's year.
Mavs never had a chance. Celtics are just too deep. Tatum can afford to have an off game and the Celtics still win. Mavs don’t have anybody consistent outside the big 2. Luka and Kyrie need 30+ each just to have a chance of winning.
Luka cannot defend. He is responsible for this lost. One assist. He was too busy trying to score instead of putting his team in position to succeed. I am sure Luka Stans will not hold hime accountable. The narrative will be it is his teammates fault. Him and Jokic do not get criticism from the media. I wonder what makes them different where they are able to avoid the assault of the media like others do?
I think you mavs fans aren’t understanding that the celtics lock up on defense. Yall laughed when Celtics planned on going 1v1 vs Luka. Luka can score 60 and will lose if we continue to lock the rest of the mavs. Celtics in 5 ☘️
Luka played pretty good, (really good in the 3rd), but he can't have 3 or 4 turnovers getting stolen by Jalen Brown or White dribbling up the court.
My takeaways on the game:
Mavs looked tensed the entire first quarter, finals jitter bug got them good. When Boston started hitting their 3s, dallas tried to match them by taking rush 3s.
First 9 mins of the 3rd quarter the mavs showed what they can do. But when lively started getting called for ticky tack fouls, it got over him and the team fell off together.
Boston came out blazing in the first quarter. Mavs has to do better defensively, and stick to the gameplan that brought them here.
It wont be easy, as Boston is really tough. But Kyrie and PJ have to step up
Mavs have no offense. They are a one hit wonder.

Mavs fans don't understand. This is like a 2nd rd series for the Celtics. This is a dream match up we got. Denver ..Full strength Clipps ..and T 'wolves all would have been tougher. It'll take a historic night from 3 for Mavs to win one game like how the heat stole one. This Celtics team is a all time great offensive juggernaut. Thanks for showing up though!
Mavs struggle coming back from any break at all, they have all year. They’re better when they only have 1-2 days between games.

And as a Boston fan I watch a lot of games and truthfully I don’t see the Mavs winning this series. It’s just a bad match up.. Cuz Lucas points and Kyries 20-28 won’t win this. Biggest issue is defense and unfortunately the Mavs 2 stars are the weakest link. Unless the others can get some meaningful stops and Lively magically gain years of experience I don’t see it.

@@Physics_Dude it’s common sense, I love Kidd but you wouldn’t know that. The defensive plan wasn’t good from the start and it’s true. Gave too many open looks with zone defense. Should’ve been changed immediately, plain and simple.
Sunday feels kinda must win since it would be the first time not winning following a loss. Kyrie killed us with either missed wide open shots or TO’s at points where we could have flipped things.
At some point Kidd is going to have to just let Hardy play 30 minutes in a game and not yank him and stick with it, cuz we need a 3rd scorer, not having one killed us last night.
Luka shot 4-12 from three and had 4 TOs with 1 assist. It wasn't just Kyrie as the entire team had a bad game
