It has been nearly 2 years since my last remix upload but I finally found the motivation to finish a project recently! I hope I can keep this motivation in the coming year, I missed doing remixes like this 😄

Oh man, it's so great to see a new upload from you, FlameCheese! I had to do a double-take at first, as it's been a hot minute, but your production skills remain as sharp as ever. Although this song sounds familiar somehow (it reminds me of a certain track in the Golden Sun series, but I don't recall which one) I definitely have not heard it until now - what a great pick, though! This piece has great energy, and although I've heard great things about Valkyrie Profile, I've yet to actually play it - this remix has me extra-intrigued, though!
I did listen to the original for context, and I'm glad I did, because it really provides an added appreciation for your rendition of it. While the original instrumentation is majestic and powerful and grand, your 8-bit/chipsynth style delivers a full dose of nostalgia and charm, and it's what I imagine this track would sound like if they de-made Valkyrie Profile for NES or Game Boy! Taking a piece that has so much energy to begin with and recreating it in a retro style while keeping that energy intact is a difficult thing to do indeed, but you've captured the intensity perfectly here, with tightly articulated leads, supports, and percussive elements.
The chip drums in particular warrant special mention, as the noises you've selected really do a great job of mimicking kicks, snares, hats, and crashes in the way that retro game consoles do. Chip drums are surprisingly hard to do well, I feel, and it takes a good deal of confidence and knowledge to faithfully maintain that particular sound style with the percussive elements. Also, the rhythms here are just straight-up sick! The groove at 2:01 in particular really gets me, with those offbeat accents - so good! And given the limitations of the waveforms used in 8-bit music, you've brought out a good deal of variance with different note lengths, velocities, and other parameters. Everything is nicely balanced in the mix, and the arranged ending with that drum fill caps things off in a satisfying way!
Great work with the visuals, as well! I like the updated intro with that whiteout transition, and the EQ spectrum reactor forming a sort of energy field around the character is a really cool and thematic detail. Kudos for the layering of elements there! And the pixelated background works well with the sound style of this remix, too. This is just a great video overall - keep up the excellent work, my friend! 🌟
(Also, now that I'm reading the description, I'm seeing that this piece was composed by Motoi Sakuraba, one of my all-time favorites. No wonder it sounded like it was from Golden Sun!)
