  • Hello friends! Happy revenge of the 5th, and international scrapbooking day (well, weekend). I hope you’re finding time to get crafty.
If you’ve hit a creative roadblock, if even if you’re not sure where to start, consider this: monochromatic colour schemes. I created a single page 6x8 layout using shades in the brown family, as challenge inspiration for the online iNSD crop over in Scrapbook Nerd’s Facebook group. You’ll find the group link below. Maybe it’ll jumpstart your creative mojo, too.
I turned to Simple Stories to help me pull this layout together, some of which is no longer available (such as the strip of floral patterned paper), and some that still is. The layout base consists of black cardstock cut to 6x8 inches, and wood grain patterned paper cut 0.25 inches square smaller. The wood grain patterned paper is from Simple Stories’ Colour Vibe collection. Everything you need to know will be linked below.
(By the way, the polka dot patterned paper, which completes the base layer, is from SS Life Captured 12x12 collection kit).
I used my Cricut to write my journaling on the second wood grain patterned paper, using grey ink, as well as aiding in creating a little word phrase and drawing the hanging plant baskets next to the title. Which, was also cut with my Cricut. As you’ll notice, there’s a lot of brown going on. Rather than using the same shade layered over each other to achieve the monochromatic look, I chose to use colours in sort of ascending order within the neutral/brown colour family. In this case, ‘ascending’ means from darkest shade to lightest. There’s a range of colours from black, to brown grey (griege), and even a touch of brown gold. In my opinion, it works really well to frame the photo, with its bright and vivid colours. The burgundy in my Silver Inch plant provides an incredibly satisfying contrast to the neutral shades. (Not to forget the green, either).
If you’re in the creative mood today, consider playing along with us over on Facebook: there’s a lot of challenges and games posted to get you going.
