Never too long! Some others all Mustie lovers might like are On Fire Welding, IC Weld, Cutting Edge Engineering, Snowball Engineering, Western Truck and Tractor Repair, Bruce in AUS
Who the hell would complain about mustie having long videos its not like there ever boring for me the longer the better as they’re always entertaining and educational keep it going mustie
On the UA-cam I get, you don't have to watch the videos straight thru without stopping. If it's a long video I often watch part of it, take a break, then come back later to finish it.
Honestly can't watch his videos for long ever since he changed editing software. The audio has been awful and full of compression artifacts like a low bitrate mp3 from the napster days ever since. it's ear cancer to people watching this with (good) headphones. The length itself I don't mind
There’s nothing better than hearing an engine run and die, and hearing you laugh and say: let’s do it again!! Awesome video. Thanks for all of your hard work doing these videos. I love the longer videos. You will never hear any complaints from me!! Darren
The Mustie giggle. There's nothing like it, when Mustie revives an old long-sleeping monster. We love it. Thanks for sharing, Mustie. We do appreciate.
Ah man who's complaining about your videos getting long.. shit you're the ONLY reason I go on here Sunday.. Come on man make them HOURS long.. I can't WAIT for the long videos!!! Thanks so much for the mechanical therapy, you have no idea how much help it is!
Darren ,I fixed my snowblower last weekend . Because of you I had the knowledge and courage to repair and adjust the valves on my 8 horse Briggs . Thanks .
I can't believe viewers would actually complain about the videos being too long, are they whacked? They could simply watch half, then watch the other half later... not rocket science people. Ignore those idiots and make the videos as long as you want.... I luv these videos... thank you very much, these are very much appreciated.
Loved the video and the old bubblenose, Mustie. In the 80s and 90s I had a 1970 Olympique 335, which is a very similar machine. Was looking over your shoulder as you encountered challenges with a smile. A few things: the sparkplug thread is 18mm. The crank seals and bearings are likely gone. I had to change mine. The original crank bearings are a non-tapered roller bearing, but the replacements were ball bearings, at least in the 80s. Order a carb kit, you’re gonna need it. tillotson carb, either an HL or HR. The type will be stamped into the carb body casting. The two adjustable carb jets are low speed and high speed. High speed really has to be adjusted under load while riding, to the conditions. The chaincase takes gear lube, and needs to be filled about half-way up the lower sprocket. There should be a belt guard, but it appears to be missing. Bogie wheels take a shot of grease in the axle end. Bogie shafts need to be disassembled to grease properly. Rear idler shaft has greasable bearings, and that’s where the track is tensioned too. Check the front drive sprockets, if they are shot, you’ll need replacements. The tag on the engine cover that says “Made in Austria” will list the displacement. Key switch just kills ignition; i.e. not essential. Machine is definitely worth saving, find a collector in your area if you don’t want it. My old 335 would run at 55mph on a compacted snow lake, and it was pretty hairy at that speed. Oh and you’ll hate the gas tank; it’s part of the tub forward of the track, and they tend to rust up something awful inside. Around 72/73 Skidoo went to a plastic tank. 👍 oh ya, this engine needs a 20:1 mixture, not 50:1.
Got my coffee...wow that brings back memories. I graduated from HS in 1971. In 1970 I had one of those and had a blast on it. Always started, wasnt a rocket, but always got me there and back. Great memories of days long ago.
I look forward to all year long and multi part videos. It never ever gets old. You can keep on making them as long as you want. Let means I just gotta stop at the go get another cup of coffee.
Those that complain about long videos are haters! IGNORE HATERS! Any and all Mustie videos are informative, entertaining and loved. Keep up the good work Mustie1!
Daren, you make videos as long as you want! After we wake up we can always rewind. 😂😂 BTW I can't believe you got all the screws and nuts and bolts out, that was a shocker.
I grew up on a farm in northeast WI. In 1968 my dad bought a brand new Ski-Doo snowmobile. To me it was the greatest thing on earth! My older brothers gave me rides on the back but spent most of their time by the neighbors riding with them. I was about 6 or 7 and my dad decided to teach me how to drive it. Drive slow in the farm yard but you can go faster in the fields. With my father on the back I finally got my chance to drive it. We idled it out of the barnyard and got into a field. I gunned and hit a drift. I was in heaven! I turned around to see my dad getting up from the snow drift. I bucked him off the back of the sled! I went back to pick him up and he had me take him back. He said lesson was over, I knew how to drive the snowmobile.
Had a '72 Olympic. Differences I noticed. Hood comes off with clips. Exhaust exits the sled in the middle just in front of the track. They made a plastic backrest with a flip up padded cover that was also storage. Rescued the stuck plow driver one time. Also saved a little dog that was on the frozen lake all matted with ice!
Hey bud, you just do the thing and we will keep watching. No matter how long the vids are. Thank you for your hard work providing us with the great content. Have learned a bunch watching your stuff. Very much appreciated.
I like the long videos. You go deeper into explaining what you're doing. Most people don't know the first thing about the details you go into. Love all of your videos. Keep up the great work
Mustie 1 you always find a way to entertain us all . with your knoledge of motors and your quirky way of talking to your projects. love your channel ,and cant wait till the next adventure.
These were the early mass produced Bombardier snow-mobile. From the inventor of those Joseph-Armand Bombardier (1907-1964) genius inventor from Quebec Canada. He first created bigger ones (look-up Bombardier Autoneige) so people in Quebec could move around in the winter because roads were not plowed in that era. Great to see you bring one back to life.
I used it run a 67/68 skidoo just like that single cylinder. I can still smell the rich oil gas mixture, and the thumping movement of that engine when it was idling. Provided a lot of entertainment for me as a young teenager, keep up the great videos. Your videos are entertaining and educational.
I used to ride this same model around after school - Alaska 1970's. You ALWAYS carried more spark plugs in case they fouled, and cleaned them up as soon as you got back home...ready for the next ride
That is a really cool trailer you have! Out of all the automotive UTube Chanel’s I watch, you are the only one with this type of trailer. Have a good day, have fun!🇺🇸👍🤪🍺
Longer episodes are way better than short teaser episodes. Ain't no such thing as a to long Mustie1 episode. His self humor and the way he explains things is a big part of what makes him an absolute joy to watch.
Hey Mustie 1, This is your viewer from Swanton Vermont. I love the longer videos. I say longer the better. So please keep on making the videos as long as you want to go over the hour-long mark. I hope that you take care until next time.
It's windshield has been replaced. The original windshield would be yellow. Those old bubble top Ski-Doos are nearly indestructible but don't turn for crap unless you put spreaders/risers in it to push the skis farther apart about 3" per side and down about an additional 2" or unless you lean heavily to the side when you are trying to turn. They have the advantage of having bogie wheels so they can be ran with little or even no snow if necessary which is why they are great for going ice fishing when there is bare ice on the lakes. Their Rotax engines are extremely reliable but are mounted too far back which is why they don't steer very well. I have been around vintage sleds for decades and have great appreciation and respect for these amazing machines. That sled has a bare aluminum head and likely a cast iron cylinder that was painted black from the factory. There is rarely any reason to remove the flywheel on these engines as there are openings through the flywheel behind the rewind hub that allows access to the points to clean and adjust them. The Tillotson carbs are extremely reliable and easy to work on and so are the clutches on them.
We've had a dozen or so vintage Ski-Doos, several Polaris, a couple Sno-Jets, a dozen or so Arctic Cats, several John Deeres, several Scorpions, Chaparrals, Moto-Skis, Yamahas, Mercury's, Johnsons, and several other brands that most people either havent heard of or have firgotten about as theyre not seen very often.
@@chrispy3866 Thank you. I don't want to overwhelm the comments section. I am very familiar with vintage sleds, boat motors, and cars. I've been twisting wrenches on them for 40+ years and used to buy and sell vintage ones of each of them.
Who the hell is complaining about long videos?! I think these people are mistaken good quality repair videos for tik-tok crap 20 second clips! Keep it up, Daren!! You're doing awesome! Quality repairs are not FAST!!
In 75 we had a Olympic 340, first sled we owned with slide rail suspension, instead of bogie wheels. We had no idea that a small amount of snow was necessary, to lubricate and cool the plastic slide rails which get very hot, without 1 or 2 inches of snow. So we motored across Sebago lake, frozen like glass, to our ice shack. After 4 or 5 hours of fishing, we decided to head home, dad started the brand new sled, and he could not get it to move, the slides had got so hot on our way out, that they melted the plastic slides, and when we parked, the melted slides fused together with the track. Dad kept revving, the engine, unaware of the problem. After a few minutes the engine reved up like it was free, but the sled did not move. He had stripped the rubber drive gears, dad spent rest of winter replacing those....
Mustie, don't ever apologize for a long video. those are my favorite kind. The longer the better. In fact I question the sanity of anyone who wants a shorter Mustie video.
Love the videos, and how indepth they are. Just FYI Darren, if you go on the inside lower edge of the hood like where your feet would be if you sat on the seat, there should be 2 wing nuts or regular nuts in an L bracket that hold the hood on, remove those nuts, and the gas cap and the hood should come off, just lift it from the handlebars forward. I rode one of those that my father built when I was a kid, loved the machine, we actually had a musher style trailer for the back and would go out and get firewood all the time. It was a blast. Hope to see the whole sled run and move.
I figured you'd just swap the motor out with one of those twin vanguard motors sitting around. I guess I was wrong! Kevin from Junkyard Digs would give you thumbs up for trying to revive an old sled. And thank you for not telling us to subscribe to your channel! Since we all watch, we all subscribed! 😊
I used to race one of these in my younger days. It was a modified 10 hp with a tuned pipe exhaust. I still have my third place gold cup from the first ever televised ABC Wide World of Sports snowmobile races World Championship at Eagle River, Wisconsin. Those were the good old days. That hood was a pain in the a$$ to remove. We always removed the bolts and replaced them with pop rivets. Much easier to just drill out the rivets to access under the hood again. Can't believe it fired so easily without needing carb work. That Tillotson carb was good for having a sticky needle valve. Great video Mustie, thanks for sharing, this brings back a lot of memories!
That's almost identical to my first sled. There were snap holders for the hood. The exhaust broke right outside the block. A Skiroule friend of mine used a piece of flex pipe and clamps to fix it. The machine wasn't fast but it was super reliable. There were small fixtures just below the seat to hold a back test for a single rider. That is a great piece you have there. as always a good video.
My grandfather had one. We use to take it out on the lake and go ice fishing. I'm surprised it was last used in 1998. I realize that was 26 years ago but most were retired way before that! I'm sure I shorted my life by 5 years from all the gas fumes I breathed in during my childhood.
Absolutely....I am all for a Mustie Movie of the Week. If those that want a shorter vid don't like it they can turn it off half way through and watch the other half the following week. 😊😊 Longer is better Mustie (just ask Mrs Mustie)😊
Man, I love watching you tinker with old stuff and bring it back from the dead. as far as video length goes, keep making them as long as you want. I love watching them. I find myself watching your latest videos and wanting more, Even though I've already been watching a video That's an hour and a half long lol.😂. Bring on the long videos!
So glad the old "Canuck" ended up in Mustie's hands. My first ride was on a Ski-doo Elan back in 72. This machine has a small flip-up hitch to tow an enclosed 2-person, factory made sled as I recall.
Awesome sled. I would get it running, it looks all there as long as the track holds it would be a blast to ride, .and It would probably sell for a nice price. I had a 1970 Skidoo Elan and it was the sled I kept for a backup in case we need an extra sled when one broke down. Not fast but fun.
Great videos as always. Make what style and length of video you enjoy. That is why we watch. Don’t take what the complainers say to heart. Thanks for wrenching.
Hey Pal Make them as long as you want, I enjoy them. Who ever does not like them long, they need to learn how to use the remote, they can pause it and come back later. Really enjoy your Vids!!!
I don't know if I would be in the minority but I appreciate the long videos. I learn a lot and look forward to Sunday to watch a new video... Longer the better :)
Darren that was an awesome video and to see/hear that 2 stroke fire was worth the whole video. Log live the 2-strokes and who cares if your videos are long. It’s not like they are boring!!!! ❤
Who's complaining about his video's getting to long ?
Could watch Mustie all day 😊
Certainly not me.

No complaints about longer videos here. Great job bringing engine back, hopefully the whole machine will be running again.

Another successful educational experience. 👏⚡
My grandfather had one. We use to take it out on the lake and go ice fishing. I'm surprised it was last used in 1998. I realize that was 26 years ago but most were retired way before that! I'm sure I shorted my life by 5 years from all the gas fumes I breathed in during my childhood.
Never gets old.....that first fire.
I knew that would run as soon as I saw "ROTAX"
I thought the same. They have engines in small GA aircraft these days. Not sure where else they are used
So Amazing reviving that old monster 😊😊😊
I already liked a bunch of comments stating we like the long vids 👍
And still we love them 😊
Thx Mustie
I don't think I have ever seen you do a snowmobile. Nice one.
I really like the longer videos.
One of my favorite Sunday morning quotes: “Like it never happened”!
"like it never happened," "right tool for the right job" and "we do it right because we do it twice" have all entered my lexicon.
@@weehelen1 Don’t forget “I win”!
Listen to your loyal subs! There is no too long of a Mustie1 video. Thanks for what you do for us and take care!
Who complains of long videos? I want 2 hour mustie vids, at least, if not more.
Absolutely....I am all for a Mustie Movie of the Week. If those that want a shorter vid don't like it they can turn it off half way through and watch the other half the following week. 😊😊 Longer is better Mustie (just ask Mrs Mustie)😊
People complain that don't know how to stop and start videos. What do they do when they need to read a book? It's too long!
Bring it on!!!!!
This is AWESOME!!! I have a '67, '69, and '71 waiting to be tuned up next week.
How do you keep chucking out 1hr long content every single week? Thank you 🙏🙏
Because he is spending his entire week in the garage. 40 hours a week in the garage gives us a 1 hour video a week, love it.
Hey Pal
Make them as long as you want, I enjoy them. Who ever does not like them long, they need to learn how to use the remote, they can pause it and come back later.
Really enjoy your Vids!!!
Who's complaining about videos being to long ? I wait all week for your videos , I wish they were longer lol
Absolutely!!!! 😊
You can always turn down the playback speed to stretch them out some. Drunk Mustie is the best Mustie!
I don't know if I would be in the minority but I appreciate the long videos. I learn a lot and look forward to Sunday to watch a new video... Longer the better :)
Alright! coffee and mustie time
Agreed - I love the longer videos.
Good Morning everyone.
Good morning from sunny Florida!🎉🎉🎉
To hell with the people complaining about longer videos!! If you make videos, we will watch them!
Darren that was an awesome video and to see/hear that 2 stroke fire was worth the whole video. Log live the 2-strokes and who cares if your videos are long. It’s not like they are boring!!!! ❤
Don't change a thing Darren! I enjoy the length of your videos. Heck you could release a 5-hour video and I would still watch it from start to finish.
Got my coffee!…
