Born & raised in San Jose. I was 11 in 67 and I was shocked when I went to the Haight Ashbury district with my folks. 8 years later I had my own band and had turned into a freak myself. What a blast to have ridden in on the coat tails of the counter culture. I consider myself lucky to have caught a glimpse of it and to have actually graduated in 75, unscathed!
Just beautiful....god I wish I had a time machine...I turned 18 that year. We had the right ideas ...just got crushef by reality along the way. Managed to keep my hair long and the music cranked up though...I turn 72 in Nov.
In 1969, when I was seven, my sister and I wandered into a hippie music festival, at a recreational facility owned by Winthrop College known as "the farm". "The farm" was adjacent to the neighborhood I grew up in. The festival was three weeks after Woodstock on Labor Day weekend, if memory serves. The Chocolate Watchband was one of the acts. I think their girlfriends took me and my sister on the VIP backstage experience. It was quite a day in my life. I never trusted anybody with a crew-cut after that day. The Chocolate Watchband had a song called "I'm Not Like Everybody Else" from 68.
I won't take clothes that are hand-me-downs And make out a smile, though I wear a frown And I won't take it all lying down 'Cause once I get started I go to town I'm not like everybody else! No, I'm not like everybody else! I'm not like everybody else! No, I'm not like everybody else! Cos I don't want to walk through life like everybody else I don't want to live my life like everybody else I won't say that I feel fine like everybody else Cos I'm not like everybody else! No, I'm not like everybody else! But darling, you know that I love you true Confess all my sins if you want me to But there's one thing that I will say to you That you want to love me the all life through I'm not like everybody else! No, I'm not like everybody else! I'm not like everybody else! No, I'm not like everybody else! I don't want to walk trough life like everybody else I don't want to live my life like everybody else I won't say that I feel fine like everybody else I'm not like everybody else! No, I'm not like everybody else! I'm not like everybody else! No, I'm not like everybody else! I say, and I don't want to walk trough life like everybody else I don't want to live my life like everybody else I won't say that I feel fine like everybody else I'm not like everybody else! I'm not like everybody else! Like everybody else (like everybody else!) Like everybody else (like everybody else!) Like everybody else (like everybody else!) Hehe that's exactly what I said. There was definitely a dark side to the Haight Ashbury Scene. Many bikers and vets were unable to integrate into the free love vibe, due to life experience, abusive upbringing and traumatic childhood events, whatever, and railed against it at every chance. The images of Hell's Angels beating back the hippie crowd at Altamont with clubs comes to mind.
Song was repetitive rubbish vocally with a clicked instrumental track. Sounds like a Seeds or Blues Magoos reject picked up off the cutting room floor.
So many free thinking peace loving souls back in the 60's with so much promise for the future. And yet here we are in this disgusting messed up world of greed and hate. Ps Kellermensch do a better version of this song
Yeah cool cover but Kinks original is the best. The Chocolate Watchband were really cool , one can say strongly influenced by the Rolling Stones but they had some tunes which blow almost every early Stones song into the shadows ....hehehe....regarding such Stones clones remember also the great all time garage blastt off classic "Bad Woman" by The Fallen Angels ..one tune which blows almost every early Stones away ...hehehe...the singer not only copies Jagger voice one to one , moreover he also shows that he could do it better than Jagger, but such bands are almost unknown outside the notorious Sixties Garage fans community, an example for the power of commerce and advertising again ..... even if I joke a bit too this is really my opinion regarding the mentioned bands !!
I'm still 'not like everybody else'. At 70 still living by myself, virtually no social life, living angst ridden gay man in a straight world. I feel sorry enough for myself, so don't request any help........have a good next world afterlife
I’m not sure if it’s just the way dudes looked like in 67 or if it really is Jim Morrison at 2:37. It’s unfair how much different the Haight is now. It was affordable for young people to live in. I’m glad they changed hippie hill to Robin Williams Hill.
It will all come back !! It's the wild untamed spirit of nature coming through !!! .....all that's happening now will Be un cool to the children of tomorrow . Whether we like it or not. That's just how it is,the universe has its own rules. Peace again
2:31 It is pretty funny that the well dressed black guy wearing a tie is sweeping the hippie trash off the sidewalk. He's doing his job. He wants to work. He's building a future for himself and his family. I respect him. Even though I'm a dirty heavily armed hippie. But I never litter.
Wow I guess you'd rather go to today's Street Scenes we're all is filled with homeless druggies and Tents all over and trash yeah you'd rather come back to this wouldn't you😢
Those are the years where humanity and people came together and finally realized that we're all the same equality we found out about we started talking about peace for society who are you what country are you from and what did you learn and what Street Scenes do you like

Thank you for having this channel! What a time period that I wish we could bring back. Colorful clothes, psychedelics, love, and beautiful music!
One of my favorites from The Kinks.
This song was overshadowed by their other hits.
Great cover by TCW.
HBO, you're not like everybody else.
ironic that most of the people in this video became like everbody else ...
Love the Jagger-ish vocal!

Great stuff, this really mixed well with the Haight St. footage. Would love to hear Iggy do a cover of this song.
Does eating lunch alone in high school qualify for 'I'm not like everybody else'?
Digging this historical footage.

Great Kinks song. And they do it so well, putting their stamp on it.
Yeah.A great track that should have made it big! Lack of overall airplay didnt help.Glad we have it on the shelves.Rog.Pacific sunset Records( LA)
Song was repetitive rubbish vocally with a clicked instrumental track. Sounds like a Seeds or Blues Magoos reject picked up off the cutting room floor.
heavenlyblueorange -- possibly, you could create a video set to "Orange Skies" by Love. Thank you!
Thanks...will keep it in mind!

Jim Morrison 3:37mins.
I very much doubt it's Jim. Very likely he would be sat drinking in the nearest bar..
Thanks for the Height Ashbury footage....I'm not like everybody else, hah!
Where do you get the street footage? Great stuff.
UA-cam
A time when I thought things were going to get better.
Well I mean, the CIA was behind all the acid flowing and had Jerry Garcia and Jimi Hendrix in on the take.
Oh, brother

Love The Chocolate Watch Band. Wow! All those skinny 60's folks. "And no one's getting fat except Mama Cass".
At these times i used ask myself whyallthese dudes was'nt in VN, instead smokkng marijuana or tasting lsd down the streets or elsewhere.
🐸🐸🐸dig it🐸🐸
This song always complicates me.
You guys are all the same - but I know I'm unique, no one else like me, so line up and worship my ass! :p
Hippie tripping.
The Kinks done it better. Much better!
Looks like Jim Morrison sitting on the roof of the car at the end.
I'm still 'not like everybody else'. At 70 still living by myself, virtually no social life, living angst ridden gay man in a straight world. I feel sorry enough for myself, so don't request any help........have a good next world afterlife
You're thinking creates your life
This is pure genius !!!
That's not Jim Morrison sitting on the roof of the car at the end, is it?
For the first time kids had access to dope and lsd
Did any of these people ever have a job in their whole life?
At 3:24 it looks like Milan Melvin in the western hat.
Apple Computers
69' Frisco I'd say
One of the greats!

I’m not sure if it’s just the way dudes looked like in 67 or if it really is Jim Morrison at 2:37. It’s unfair how much different the Haight is now. It was affordable for young people to live in. I’m glad they changed hippie hill to Robin Williams Hill.

The dude on top of the car in the last seconds of the video kind of resembles Mr. Mojo risin' i.e.Jim Morrison.

Ive heard a lot of their material including "Wild In The Streets" 1967. Ok I know where Iggy got his sound.

A song for any and all lost dogs...hope we find home.
why would you want such a thing ?
Wow, you couldn't pay me enough to go back to that street scene.
Wow I guess you'd rather go to today's Street Scenes we're all is filled with homeless druggies and Tents all over and trash yeah you'd rather come back to this wouldn't you😢
Those are the years where humanity and people came together and finally realized that we're all the same equality we found out about we started talking about peace for society who are you what country are you from and what did you learn and what Street Scenes do you like
@mrcomenttoe2009 the indulgences of that crowd was the precursor to today's scene you describe. They set it all in motion. YOU dig?
Great Cover; After watching The Sopranos, I'm always gonna associate this song with that show and esp. Tony Soprano!
great music but I hate dirty hippies
In their quest to not be like everybody else, the hippie generation was just like everybody else, just like everybody else.
Everybody’s different - is that not obvious to you? ❤
Jealous that you missed this era are ya huh??????
Good attempt at a Jagger impersonation.....
The apex, the height of humanity. All downhill from here.
I wonder who came first? The Chocolate Watchband or The Strawberry Alarm Clock?
0:41 My spirit brother.
