@@MWCRUSADER0508 No there is a surge. I've watched many videos if not all of them for the VN and thats what the NGS button helps with. The pops from the exhaust is anti-lag and when it shifts gears that power drops onto if causing a surge forward. Look at the video carefully when the subaru is not changing gears and you will see it.
@@georgevigil7001 No, the Veloster N does not "surge" on upshifts. What you're seeing is an artificial hard shift that Hyundai put in to make it feel nice and engaging. My C63 AMG has this as well and other AMGs do too. In my car, this is not activated when in comfort mode, which may be the same thing for the Veloster N.
For drag, it's best to use the base STI with the 18's, no sunroof, no harmen audio and no wing. I think that should help since you'll save quiet a bit of weight.
Try revving the Subaru to about three grand and dumping the clutch and when you shift, power shift. Every time you shift gears the H is pulling a car on you.
I’m not surprised by the outcome. The Subaru is a cow of a car. Also, automatics are becoming quicker than manual cars because of the technology within them. However. Which car are you going to have more fun off road, in the dirt, mud and snow? And saying that you can drive a MT vehicle gets you a pat on the back and a job at valet parking.
Sti driver just wasn’t accustomed with the car enough. Also kind of favoriting Hyundai with the DCT transmission since the guy in the Subaru clearly isn’t comfortable with the car. Launch was bad, shifts where probably bad too. Looks like he wasn’t staying in the boost between shifts (early shifting)? 2018+ models are a fulls second slower to 60 with the addition of the electronic diff anyways.
Take it back 18 years ago you might have been abit young to remember the 2001, 2002 Hyundai Tiburon small block V6 with the 6 speed manual could give the impreza some competition back then and that's no laughing matter, just that they discontinued it and the impreza's get more powerful as time passed

@Renntech no it doesn’t. You are referring to MANUAL timings of the GOLF R. Which runs 4.8 and 13.4. Why don’t u go look at MANUAL veo timing if u want to be bias. The GOLF R does 4.6 seconds at 13.2 on a good day and will smack any N. The trap speed won’t matter since the R Will still reach that 105 much faster than the N will. There is already videos of the golf R smacking the Type R and on this channel the DCT N lost badly to the type R
@Renntech that’s paper timing. The Golf r would put gaps on the N. Not a drivers car? You are so silly. You do know the Golf R is rated as one of the best over all hatches. Way higher than the silly N. And if u wanna get super technical you are comparing a 9 year old platform to a new platform with a DCT. Because you know if u DARED compare the N to the New golf R as it should be compared there would be NO chance. The N is still behind to a 8 year old platform let alone the new one
It was pretty obvious people.. power to weight ratio was similar, so it came down to shifting and nowday's DCT is waaaaay faster than the manual transmission.
Even with the manual the veloster would win. Stock Sti's are over rated. The veloster N is drastically UNDER rated. The launch on the STI was pretty soft here. They can take much more abuse than that, bit the WRX cannot. The update of the WRX\STI cant come soon enough. The FA20 in the WRX was underpowered, and that EJ was ready to retire a long time ago.
@@higherarc0598 I will have to go back and look. From all the media outlets that reviewed both versions on the veloster N the DCT is only a couple tenths quicker in a 1\4 mile. If the STI beat the manual version this shouldnt have been the blowout that it was.
yeah the VN is still, and seemingly will continue to be available in both DCT and manual. Not sure why you said the new model is DCT only, unless you are referring to the Kona N.
Power to weight ratio being nearly equal the car with DCT will be hard to beat. Never much drop in power being applied since the next gear is pre-selected before the upshift giving very rapid upshift.
Typically a modern DCT will walk an equally paired 6 speed rival. No surprise here at all. STI platform is a fucking dinosaur but will always hold a special place in the hearts of those of us who have owned one.

I have been a Subaru enthusiastic since the late 90s and having owned a 2004 sti when they first arrived in the United States. It was the highed of Subaru. Winning all those wrc titles . Fast forward to today. The available horse power hasn't changed that much and the cars design has taken a nose dive. The PowerPlant ej25 has been a wonderful motor capable of tons of horse power. Just Subaru didn't make the most of it. I payed 32,000 for my 2004 sti brand new. The horsepower never went up just the sticker price .

Hmm really? My grandmother would have won in that AT against the worlds worst manual stick driver... 🙄😂 A good (read average) driver would have won easily in the Sti... If he only would have launched correctly 🤦🏻♂️
It make a lot of sense, on dry surface will be FWD with less than 350 hp always quicker. Smaller losses in drive train and so on. With more power should be FWD screwed. On other hand, on snow, wet, dirt surface can AWD stretch her legs and win.
If anyone thought that Subaru was going to win clearly doesn’t know the crack that Hyundai and Kia have been smoking lately. K5 GT flogs V6 cars. I’d say take the K5 GT and Sonata N-Line to the dyno and you’ll see they’re lying about their HP output. There’s absolutely NO WAY 291hp is that fast
Both struggles to put the power down, in a consistent manner. Sometimes its just spinning tires and cars not moving as much as they needed to be. Both lacks a LSD also.
@@RedlineGaming007 Kia not putting an LSD in the K5 is why I'm not considering it anymore. It just spins the whole time on launch. I'm waiting on the Elantra N to come out, pretty sure I'm going to buy one.

In the last 18 years the STI has gained less then 30 hp, it used to beat alot of cars. Now it loses to Hyundai and honda 2.0t . Gas mileage hasn't improved much as well.

The DCT made the difference
Impossible! It's definitely not the car! The Subaru driver doesn't know how to drive a Manual transmission. 😔 what about the Dccd controller? Wondering if He had it set on automatic.
Man I can’t wait till I pickup my Veloster N DCT. Truly a fun car and I love the looks and Technology🔥🔥

You know you blew the launch when an awd car doesn’t get 2 cars on a front wheel drive by end of second gear
Obviously you can't manage the manual shifting of gears
Just bought my 2022 veloster n DCT and I can't stress how much video's do NOT do it justice. If i could go back in time i would chose the veloster every time!
I did not know I needed to watch this until I watched it! That SURGE on every gear change in the N is CRAZY! I bet it feels absolutely SAVAGE when you're driving it. Great Video! I will buy this car when I find a white one in AZ. When I went the dealer they only had the black one.
Dude what? It’s just a DCT, a normal gear shift, there’s no surge…the manual STI just drops back because it’s, manual.
@@georgevigil7001 George I have a dsg (dct) and what you feel is no drop in acceleration while shifting and each gear change feels really solid.
@@jts400hp Is it from the VN or are you driving a different car? DSG BMW?
For drag, it's best to use the base STI with the 18's, no sunroof, no harmen audio and no wing. I think that should help since you'll save quiet a bit of weight.
All the sti have Harmen audio dude even base model. But yeah ur right as light as possible
Impressed the N did well on the dig
Try revving the Subaru to about three grand and dumping the clutch and when you shift, power shift. Every time you shift gears the H is pulling a car on you.
DCT is impressive! Also helps N driver is about 130lbs lol.
That granny shifting cost you the race every time ⏲
I'm not saying it would change the outcome but we need someone who knows how to actually launch cars because your launches aren't very good
I'm loving my 2021 Veloster n DCT!
Automatics have been quicker than Manuel's since the mid 2000's bro.
If someone told me 10 years ago that there will be a day where you could buy a 35k Hyundai hatch that would outrun an STi, I would have died laughing.
Take it back 18 years ago you might have been abit young to remember the 2001, 2002 Hyundai Tiburon small block V6 with the 6 speed manual could give the impreza some competition back then and that's no laughing matter, just that they discontinued it and the impreza's get more powerful as time passed

Sti gains proformance and reaction time after installing accessport and shines after proformance mod. Sti throttle respond is probably it's biggest weakness and 2nd gear hanging
I was thinking about buying an N but my focus ST3 was so cheap ($12k w/ 30k miles) and is paid off. I think I’d rather put the money for mods. I’ll give it a year especially since the N has those new bucket seat. Open to other’s thoughts.
Edit: I also, with todays market, got a $21k trade in offer for my ST which is very convincing
I liked this race a lot! I could tell you are enjoying it too! Maybe we can get GLI vs STI? Haven’t seen a GLI vid for many months now. Hope u don’t hate us :(
Wow can’t wait to see the Kona N could do now
The way the veloster just moves forward everytime it shifts is so cool
Subaru needs a driver mod
I feel Takumi Fujiwara from Initial D would have shifted wayyy better in the STI. Hahaha!!! 😄
I love the Veloster N but went with a 2022 BRZ. It was a little cheaper plus I want to play with RWD for a while, but darn the DCT in the Veloster is pretty amazing. I was surprised at this result but probably shouldn’t have been.
The 2022 BR-Z is just slow. Subaru needs to add a turbo and bump up the output to 300 HP or add AWD.
@@applepoop10 it's not for speed
And no to AWD it would at weight.Go drive one or a Miata and see how much fun you're going to have,it's not always about hp but how the car communicates the inputs while you are driving.
Good choice David 👍🏻

You make very good and interesting drag race videos, the best on UA-cam 👍 A drag race Hyundai Kona N against Subaru WRX STi would be interesting.
Kona N have the Subaru STi for fun too!!!
As a WRX owner, the lust for a Veloster N DCT is real...
Are you not flat foot shifting? It looks like you are shifting slow the amount of ground you’re losing on each shift.
Subaru and Acura disappointed me big time smh
What kind of shifting is that by the guy driving the STI
If I was closer id like to go up against the veloster N in my Dsg Golf R
Maybe from a Roll it'll be closer but a dig would go to the R.
R would demolish
@Renntech all the valid journalists and car reviewers have the Golf R leagues above the N. Keep trying.
love ur vids keep em coming
the view is better!can see whats going on
It was pretty obvious people.. power to weight ratio was similar, so it came down to shifting and nowday's DCT is waaaaay faster than the manual transmission.
You didn’t see previous video? Sti beat manual no issue
Sti was never meant for this type of driving. It was built for the track and backroads.
How dare you compare hyundai to sti ... I smoke most sports cars with my 06 sti with np!!!!
Sti needs a driver mod.
I like the speed but I live where there is snow and there’s no replacement for AWD.
I hope you redo it with the new Wrx Sti when it releases.
Power to weight ratio being nearly equal the car with DCT will be hard to beat. Never much drop in power being applied since the next gear is pre-selected before the upshift giving very rapid upshift.
Let me race the Hyundai!!!! I smoke the doors off those cars all the time.
Typically a modern DCT will walk an equally paired 6 speed rival. No surprise here at all. STI platform is a fucking dinosaur but will always hold a special place in the hearts of those of us who have owned one.
Good race. Where did you get the vest?
In Montreal at F1 Store
You should have had somebody else drive the Subaru wrx sti, preferably somebody who is familiar with the gears. There was no justice here only mediocre driving at best.
Spool the turbo on the launch geeeeeez!
You never miss my guy. You're going to blow up and the channel is gonna be huge. Keep it coming
I'd love to see Veloster n dct vs Focus rs ❤️
That man has got to practice his launch on the STI. He should be killing the Veloster off the line.
The horsepower never went up just the sticker price .
its crazy because Hyundai is now winning all of these trc races... crazy how times have changed & Subaru didn't.
That dual clutch in the N doesnt screw around. Nice driving from you man. Seems like you tried everything but at the end the Veloster spanked the Sti
It can't be the battle of the hatches when the STI is a sedan.🤣
You are the best channel ever. On stressful days, your channel brings a nice ease into people’s mind with amazing races like this video! Both cars surprised me. Can we please get the ecoboost vs GLI next! I’m so excited for it
Thank you
You guys should race the Subaru Sti vs Corolla GR
Hyundai always in front ❤️🤗
Hmm really? My grandmother would have won in that AT against the worlds worst manual stick driver... 🙄😂
A good (read average) driver would have won easily in the Sti...
The transmissions and torque curves are where they make up for horsepower.
Both struggles to put the power down, in a consistent manner. Sometimes its just spinning tires and cars not moving as much as they needed to be. Both lacks a LSD also.
The K5 GT almost kept up with the Stinger GT AWD in roll race that tells us how retarded fast the K5 GT is....
@@RedlineGaming007 Kia not putting an LSD in the K5 is why I'm not considering it anymore. It just spins the whole time on launch. I'm waiting on the Elantra N to come out, pretty sure I'm going to buy one.
@@rockefelleragent1357 I just wish it had an LSD
Wait what car did the other guy pick? I couldn't understand him lol
The STi should've launched much harder than that, also you need to be shifting much better than that..
Not a knock on Sam, but his shifting is a tad bit off. The STI's manual does take some getting used to though.
It may be close to 1/8 but not after
The STI's launch was pretty poor though, you can 100% launch that STI without worry, their STI 6 speed transmission can handle over 3 times the factory power and twice the torque. Gearing is fine, just need to actually drive the car 😂
But not the axel bro 😅
The WRX STI is the most over rated car ever! Their engines are trash and it takes so much money just to get a simple 400HP!
finally someone with a brain stis and subies are the worlds shittest cars
I think the veloster n was built to compete more with the wrx and golf gtis. Very impressed by the outcome.especially for a fwd car
Hyundai continues to impress.
In the last 18 years the STI has gained less then 30 hp, it used to beat alot of cars. Now it loses to Hyundai and honda 2.0t . Gas mileage hasn't improved much as well.
If you know the history of STI, you know they never built for horsepower war or drag race. Cars like EVO and STi are WRC inspired performance car, all about grips and handling. they still have best AWD system even on today's market considering how old the platform they are based.
이제 벨로스터N보다 성능이 업된 아반떼가 나왔으니 점점 재밋어 지겠구만

Perfect reason why manuals are dying. They are not build speed, just for driving exp
Some may argue standard manual transmissions may have better longevity as well in addition to the experience.
@@ashesofourpast yep, reliability is higher since it's less moving parts, especially beefing it up for more power
hello obviously nobody on earth fas if he is the best of the best pilots he will make manual changes faster than a double clutch box and how do you want to beat the veloster if he would say toreto that you made the changes worse than his grandmother and if he clearly knows see how you make changes very fast and at low revolutions for that is the red line to calculate make the change when you arrive but finally hazing again from (expert) 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤭🤭🤭🤭
