Brilliant video. Am going to try making it soon. such a beautiful melange of ingredients sans the onion garlic which one assumes is in every Indian Mutton dish. Thanks for shaing
Just one thing. I thought this was made just in ghee. Remember hearing about this from my childhood. The mustard oil was a new thing. But I am definitely giving this a shot.
Thank you so much for your kind words. This is truly a wonderful recipe submitted by one of our viewers. You must try it and let us know how it turns out. You can also submit a recipe if you have a unique one and we will be happy to feature it on our show. our Head Chef Semanti is a Bengali and we often feature Bengali food. :)
Yes yes...very similar to the niramish mangsho. One of my maa's uncles cooked it the 1st time I had. I love the way you explain the things. Makes it all so simple. Your simple and easy communication and Yr style makes it all the more worth it. Thanks fr sharing 😊
There is no bitterness in mustard oil but in any case, we smoked the oil after tempering it with bay leaves and asafoetida as shown in the video. Thanks for watching :)
It’s rare to have an Indian mutton preparation without onion & garlic. Deoghar’s Mutton Atthe is a lot more distinctively unique as a meat dish than one without onion, garlic. It’s a unique delicacy that beats several conventional ways. Having failed to bring out an outstanding preparation, I waited for Toto’s The Slow Fire Chef show. It was generous of Mayur Jha to share his father’s authentic recipe, which The Slow Fire Chef has so neatly produced. I know the video I will follow coming Sunday for my mutton preparation! Kudos Amit & Toto…
Vegetarian mutton curry! Wow! And that too without onion and garlic. This one is really something new and interesting that will need to be tried out. Thanks a lot for sharing it here. Really appreciate your efforts to bring the best of delicacies from across India.
Thank you so much Sujay :) in our latest season that started this year, we are trying to cover as many regional cuisines as possible. Glad you appreciate it.
A completely different way of cooking mutton, I presume that the addition of the various masalas at intervals is lending wholesome flavours to the mutton and giving it a distinct taste. Would love to make it this way and see 😊
It’s amazing how many different types of mutton “curries” exist in our country. I didn’t even know about the existence of this “vegetarian” mutton prep - I thought only the Bengalis were that crazy 😂😂 - till Mayur Shekhar Jha sent this recipe to Amit. I tried to stay as true to the recipe as possible and it was truly delicious. This is a very mature & well developed recipe
Such an interesting recipe with addition of raisins at the end. Also, the order of adding the ingredients- I’m sure that has a part in making this so tasty. Will try. Btw, great video and music, and looking beautiful, Head Chef 😊
The instructions were so precise I didn’t dare deviate! ( pl note alliteration) I actually even weighed out all the ingredients since he’d given the measurement in grams 😂 but it was totally worth it

Great recipe. You used mustard oil. Is it raw mustard oil ? If so, don't you have to smoke it first to remove the bitterness from the oil ?
There is no bitterness in mustard oil but in any case, we smoked the oil after tempering it with bay leaves and asafoetida as shown in the video. Thanks for watching :)
The oil is heated along with the hing & tez patta before adding the meat 🤗

"Vegetarian?" - because of the Hing, I guess.
Vegetarian because no heating stuff like onion and garlic. This is the Satvik way of cooking meat 🤗
