I changed the transmission fluid on my 2017 ford escape a few weeks ago, Ever since then when the car is cold the transmission slips or shifts hard until it warms up and then it is fine. I've also noticed some pump whine when it is cold. I put 4 quarts in it when I refilled which I thought might have been a little low, so I added another 1/4 quart a week ago, but it seems to have made no difference. I was wondering if I should drain it down again and do another fill or if there is anything else I could try.
Check the fluid level with the engine running. There's a check plug next to where the drivers axle goes in. It's a hex 10mm. Fluid should be coming out in a slow stream with the engine on
Thanks for the quick reply. It was a slow trickle not quite a stream when I checked it last time after adding the other 1/4 quart, but maybe it needs a little more. I hope I didn't damage anything. Thanks again, I really appreciate all your videos. especially the ones on the 6f35 :)
@@newfie-dean5803 Unfortunately, I did not. I drained the fluid again and refilled using the method Ben described, but it made no difference. The car still shifts rough when its cold, but once it warms up it is fine.
I know a few guys like yourself. Honest smart tradesman, to a man, you work too cheap. A customer that would begrudge you for clearing $75 or $100 for your skills and honesty is one you don't need. I have a 2017 with a 2.0 ecoboost and am about to drain and fill my transmisson myself. 3 shops wanted nothing to do with me. 4 if you include a Ford Dealer who years ago said not to do it till you hit 100,000 miles. I am at 118K now. Still runs well so lucky me. Thank you for your YTs!
@johns6816 I'm glad the videos helped! Definitely drain and fill it 2 or 3 times every 30k miles on the escape! Waiting until 100k is a bad idea, the fluid breaks down fast on these
My 2016 escape only has 68k miles and my trans is crapping out. Been hearing the trans pump whine, and after afew minutes when the trans warms up it starts slipping and the car barely goes up the road. I havent gone for a diagnosis, but got quotes for deman trans from 4300 to a jasper for 6k. Do you reccommend scrapping the car, getting rebuilt, or a Deman trans.? Ive been contemplating getting the car fixed or just putting 43000$ into a down-payment on something else. Maybe if i get an actual diagnostic from a trans specialist but ive had the trans fluid changed when the car crapped out and its still doing it. So its gotta be the pump or torq converter right?
@tommyz1082 hi, yeah pump. I'd replace the pump, converter, flexplate, and check the center support. It's an easy transmission to repair yourself, too. $1k in parts. But, yes the car is worth fixing for sure
@BigBensCarsAndCycles thank you for your comment and time. I def. Cannot do the work myself, I don't have the facilities or time to pull a trans. My ultimate concern is spending the 4k to get the work done and still have problems after. Is there a descent success rate on this 6f35 trans getting rebuilt, lasting afew years? Especially with my car having so few miles?
I watch the video barely going to transmission my transmission was leaking in a 2017 Ford escape the pressure port Baltimore loose I tightened them fixed the problem thank you
@andrewhart2747 I've got a video called 6f35 full rebuild which gives better angles. Pretty much just go underneath and look for any loose 11mm plugs, there's several
@BigBensCarsAndCycles are they plugs with a head or would you need like a allen key? Just trying to find out before i get all up underneath to make sure i have the right tool.
@BigBensCarsAndCycles thank you. We noticed the same noise in your video about two weeks ago. And just the past two days we noticed almost no engagement into drive but only in the mornings when everything is cold. We have not been hard on the throttle ever since we noticed the noise. Crossing our fingers it's just oil level. It does not shake at idle like the car in your ford fusion video. Will keep you updated. Thanks for the videos

@@nicktalbot8728did you solve the problem? If so, what was it?

Thanks it does help😊
Do you recommend putting in any snake oil into the transmission to stop the leaking?
@tysonm2525 not for a leak like this. Possibly for a old worn seal

Do you have a video showing where that pressure port is?

Would this issue cause a slip under hard throttle but no slip and whine under light throttle?
@howardfield7884 hi, yes possibly. If it sounds like a noisy power steering pump, then the transmission pump is probably the issue

where exactly is the upper pressure port
11mm plug on the side of the transmission near drivers wheel well
My Guy's 😂😂❤
My 1987 Jeep Cherokee is not whining or leaking... I check the ground where it's parked.
