Very excellent. Thank you for showing how to get the job done without looking like a giant science experiment. Practical, real life! Love it. Now can you do mine that way?
This video really helped. I am doing a color tomorrow with a similar look so thank you and I like that you are realistic about color because with the EQ shades they are way lighter than whY you think.
Emily Westbrook shades EQ gloss are intended to be iridescent. So it’s the right level they are just more of a see through color. REDKEN explains it like this. The gloss covers hair as nylons would legs. The creams cover hair as tights would legs.
Courtney B Stylist, I think you meant translucent rather than iridescent. Your work is clean and beautiful. I retired after decades behind the chair, and watching you makes me want to go back to work.
I needed this video. I have an unwearable blond wig that I've been scared to dye because I was worried the roots would come out patchy like they have in past attempts you explained this real well. Thanks for the breakdown.
Thank you so much for your videos! They are so helpful. I have always wondered why my shadow roots never show up like I expect them too, and I realized that I’m not using a dark enough tone. ❤️❤️❤️
Gretta Smith your so welcome! Another tip: what makes each level darker than the other is the amount of pigment. So 4N has the same tones of pigments as 6N but more of them. Shades creams requires 30 minutes for the full amount of pigment to be deposited so by removing it sooner means there isn’t full saturation and won’t be as dark as it’s supposed to be. 😊
Can you please do a video low lighting hair that's been bleached all over. My daughter's hair is fully bleached root to tip (and its long) but she wants to try to get back to a more natural look. I'm a hairstylist but have not been in a salon for 20 years. I need some tips.
If that is happening it may be the type or brand of color you are using. Also try rinsing with chillier water. Thanks for watching. Don’t forget to subscribe!
I just discovered you (I know, a little late) and I;m so happy-Yay!. I really liked how you explained why you used an Olaplex 2 treatmment before doing the roots. I've always wondered (on a lot of these tutorials) how they were able to rinse off the darker low lights or a root touchups without it bleeding a little bit on the blonde areas and making them a little bit darker or a strange tone.Which, of course, has happened to me. Would a clear filler also work (to cover the blonde/prevent it from absorbing some of the darker color) and can you apply an all-over toner before you add the low lights- or even after? Also, using a darker color on the roots, and applying over wet hair to achievea lighter tone.. Such great tips and a lovely result!😊
How long will the shades color cream hold up? And do you use it on lowlights because it holds longer than the shades EQ? Finally a stylist that uses the EQ color creams !
Hello Anne! The color creams hold up well. They last as long as the hair your applying it to allows. I use the creams when I want more coverage (lowlights, tiny back, grey blending etc.). I’ll use the gloss when I want more of a translucent look (toners, glazes, fillers, evening out porosity etc.)
Beautiful results!! Thank you for sharing! I have been my own colorist for several years & hairstylist for about the last 6 to 8 months. Doing things I never thought possible.
I love this! Could I achieve this look with bleached hair level 10-11ashy? I have no root and no dimension I’m hating my hair right now but stuck trying not to turn my roots green adding color hope that makes since lol
Yes but to avoid green you need to add all the missing underlying pigment at level. I would definitely suggest seeing a professional for that. You can get recommendations and most stylist will do free consultations.
LOL. SAME Lillian! I actually DID turn my hair a green tint by doing a root smudge and lowlights with a permanent light brown. When I washed my hair out, the blonde got like 'toned" by rinsing the permanent dye out through the rest of my very bleached blonde hair. I was super pissed and had to go to work the next day like that, with my coworkers picking on me and calling me "The Joker" HA!! Oh well, I learned my lesson 4sure! BUT, THEN I chose a demi permanent 6N after fixing the blonde and it worked PERFECTLY, NO PROBLEMS. I know this comment is very old, but I'm STILL Blonde and ready for a change... and THIS Looks AMAZING. Exactly what I need. I'm about to go for it :D ..Yayyy! So, yeah... also, Thanks for sharing this cool technique on damp hair @Courtney B Stylist !!
Great job- can you please give the low light panel pattern you used? I see two solid panels at the start in back and then you weaved out from there? Thanks so much.
I don't really do patterns. I did a mixture depending on where i was in the head and how much dark it needed. I hope this helps. Once I have another clients that needs this technique I will try to film a more in depth video for sure. Thank for watching!
I went to a hairdresser and she made my roots soo dark and I now have some harder lines. Would this help to break up those lines? They kind of blend but it’s still looks like new growth.
Love this, have to do something similar in a couple days... can you tell me what the section of the top part looked like as you did it, that’s where the video cut off and wasn’t sure your placement in their part. Was a it Mohawk section back or diagonal like the sides?
R&R Makeup I don’t remember the exact mixture now but I wanted more of a neutral tone so I only added enough of the WN to make sure it didn’t turn muddy. The reason I don’t always mention proportions of each formula are because formulas are not universal. If I put the same formula on 10 different blondes it can turn out 10 different tones. Taking in to consideration the porosity, texture, starting level is key to adjusting the formula for your client. 😊
Lol I assure you I’m not aggressive. Anything in fast forward with look as though it is but definitely not. Most times when my clients are relaxed, as they usually are, they start relaxing their head a lot which makes it looser.
That looks amazing!! Definitely good insight on the root shadow level. I probably wouldn’t have thought to go that deep but it’s perfect!
This is a great fast way to do this technique! Thanks for sharing!! Girl You've just saved me 3 hours!! Hahaha
Maria Glover awesome!
This is one of the prettiest results I’ve seen anywhere on UA-cam. Amazing!
Wow, thank you!
Great technique and explanation. Great color.
Love the before and after! You exceeded the clients' expectations!
Thank you!
You have a lovely calming voice and you do beautiful inspiring work..
I liked her "before" and "after". She looks pretty both ways.
♡

Absolutely love how you did the feathered lowlight slices, I'm showing my hairdresser your video... thank you so much 🌸🌸🌸
Incredible!! I have been trying to get this look and no one ever can do it. You are awesome :)
Thank you so much!!

It looks great. Has depth, shine, and looks more youthful.

I would definitely love to do that once I fin the perfect candidate!
@@CourtneyBStylisteducation you can have my daughter!
Looks good 😊
Gorgeous work.
Thank you so much 😀
Looks really great!!
Looks amazing. Love the end result. But what is preventing low lites not bleeding into blond or high lites. My color bleeds into high lites. 😌
If that is happening it may be the type or brand of color you are using. Also try rinsing with chillier water. Thanks for watching. Don’t forget to subscribe!
I love this technique.
Thank you. It's one of my favorites!
I love it!!!

I wonder if you soak the head in a ice bath before you do the roots would it help prevent hot roots .
You did great!
Great work thank you.
😳 WOW!!!! Amazing Job!!!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you. And thanks for watching!
Hi I've been wanting kinda the same thing but in reverse of the picture. I'm all over a light brown but want to add dark brown in instead of blonde.
Your a Great Educator
Evie Romero thank you very much! I do love it!
Love this!
Thank you!
Great method! Thank you for sharing!
Would the shadow root cover grey hair with this technique?
It could. You would want to let it sit longer and use something other than shades eq gloss.
Beautiful results!! Thank you for sharing! I have been my own colorist for several years & hairstylist for about the last 6 to 8 months. Doing things I never thought possible.

Thank you and thanks for watching!
Cream doesn't have an N series. Do u mean cover plus?
Wow gorgeous
The darker looks so much for her skin tone .. then the pop of blonde
So pretty! But please tone diwn the music. ☺

Love the video. New subbie. I was wondering if you can do the chocolate cake hair color.
Hmmm chocolate cake hair color. lol. Now that is something I could get on board with!
Love it
wow big fan of you! hope to meet you one day!
I went to a hairdresser and she made my roots soo dark and I now have some harder lines. Would this help to break up those lines? They kind of blend but it’s still looks like new growth.
Do a tutorial on those curls Please?
Love this, have to do something similar in a couple days... can you tell me what the section of the top part looked like as you did it, that’s where the video cut off and wasn’t sure your placement in their part. Was a it Mohawk section back or diagonal like the sides?
I kept going up the sides.
So how come 6N and 7WN look so ashy in the end? It suggest you left the color balance on a cooler side so we don't get to see the actual result.
can you do a darker root base?
Can you make permanent color in the hair when it is wet with all color :)
What product line is 'Shades Creme?
You are great with colour
Thank you!
Thank you!
What dark colour did u use, love this
Should be In the description.
Do you do the dark panels with semi or permanent color??
It is demi.
did you use slices on the side?
Yes but I didn’t bring the color through the ends. Just fanned down.
What were the proportions of shades EQ cream of 7wn and 6n that you mixed??
R&R Makeup I don’t remember the exact mixture now but I wanted more of a neutral tone so I only added enough of the WN to make sure it didn’t turn muddy. What was the song used ?
what color line do you use?
Great
Do you come to Chicago?
I do not. I actually retired from the hair industry end of 2022.
Hi there, where is your location ?
♥️
Was the back bricklayed?
Pretty much. It wasn't the focus but it was how I ended up laying them.
Great color but i was cringing because of how aggressive she is with the client!
Lol I assure you I’m not aggressive. Anything in fast forward with look as though it is but definitely not. Most times when my clients are relaxed, as they usually are, they start relaxing their head a lot which makes it looser.
