  • In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create cool, stylized, cartoon style 2D fire effects using just Cinema 4D. We'll start out by going over how to set up your scene to get the flat 2D shading using the Cel Shader (www.eyedesyn.com/creating-an-i...) as well as how to set up your camera & lighting. Then I'll show you how to create the flame using a bunch of techniques that I also go over in my Cel Shader Paint Strokes tutorial (www.eyedesyn.com/cel-animation...) and also show you how to tweak it to get different types of flames. Finally, I'll cover how I used the Normal Direction shader to be able to see through our 3D flame geometry to see the match stick. If you have any questions, be sure to hit me in the comments below! Enjoy!

    This is the best process I found this far to simulate fire without a third part plugin. A huge thank you from a new cinema lover.

    I have a question..
    I extended the project to 1800 frames long but the animation played only for the first 160 frames. How do I apply the animation to keep moving all the way through the timeline? I would love even if you will refer me to a tutorial. I couldn't find anything.
    Thanks a lot!

    • @eyedesyn
      @eyedesyn  8 років тому +1

      +footageisland That's due to the particle length, you just need to increase the particle birth to the end of your composition

    • @eyedesyn

      Hide textures? You could just put an "X" in the Material Selection field in the material so it'll just go away

    Also my "smoothing" deformation didn't work. I've tried a different method in order to get the similar effect. I put the null into a "hypernurbs" and applied a "taper" deformation between hpernurbs and everything (null). Not just the same but it was enough for me.
    Note: I didn't try but i think you can get a flame like this by using "cloth tag" and "tear" activated.

    • @eyedesyn
      @eyedesyn  7 років тому

      Smoothing works differently if you're using a version older than R15, if you have R15, be sure you download the update. It will solve the Smoothing Deformer inconsistency!

    Right for some strange reason when i add the smoothing deformer it's doing nothing, i'm following it step by step but rather than a match i'm using my logo so its a much bigger sphere to begin with but it doesn't seem to register the smoothing deformer, any ideas?

    You can make the fire does not come from a point side ( As with the matchstick )? which comes from a flat surface (plane) like a furniture?

    • @eyedesyn

      You can you just need to create multiple particle flames to fit the object you want to set on fire

  • @nitinburli7814
    @nitinburli7814 7 років тому

    Hi EJ, quick question. Instead of using meatball is it possible to get the same fire using a cloth effect? Or would it be counter productive.

    • @eyedesyn
      @eyedesyn  7 років тому

      It would be tricky because Cloth you need to use the same geometry, but metaballs allow for geometry generation that allows for a more organic flame.

    • @nitinburli7814

    • @pederrottiger
      @pederrottiger 7 років тому +1

      Hey, so I had a similar problem at first and if you followed his directions, have the same order as EJ and everything looks good in your editor: The problem is a difference between your 'editor' vs your 'renderer' - A setting you are seeing for the renderer is different than your render settings. My specific problem was in the emitter, my birthrate editor was different than my birthrate renderer. Hope that helps. Also thx EJ for all the great tutorials.

    • @eyedesyn

    • @mademoisellebiscuit7546
      @mademoisellebiscuit7546 6 років тому

      Yes, I've watched quite a few tutorials on 2D fire for AE, but none of them have quite as nice/clean/believable of an effect as the fire you created in your Cinema 4D tutorial here. Most of the AE tutorials I've seen for 2D fire rely on wave warp/turbulent distortion effects, and while they serve the general purpose, they just don't look that great. I see that most of your tutorials are for Cinema 4D, but you also have a couple tutorials on AE too, so I didn't know if maybe you could give some tips on how you would recreate this fire in AE? Thanks in advance!
