What are your thoughts on usability compared to your Panasonic system? Especially for the kind of work you do. I’m thinking about a similar move. The quality is there no doubt, but wonder about the practical usability.
I love the Komodo form factor and image, but I guess time will tell how it compares. I only got it this week and still waiting for several accessories to arrive before I can use it professionally. First impressions - it's fairly simple to operate, the file sizes are larger but the raw files play back pretty well and look gorgeous. The Komodo seems really comfortable to shoot handheld, it's very compact and is surprisingly heavy for its size, which is a good thing. I'm holding onto my EVA1 and S5 - for certain jobs they'll no doubt be better suited. They're still both great cameras. I considered upgrading to something like the FX6 but didn't think it offered a big enough leap from what I already had.
Great video and I am a big fan of your work, had the Komodo and sold it. The image is fantastic but I think slightly overrated and I’ve found myself picking up the Panasonic S1 and love the image from that sensor.
Ah thanks for watching through my vids! To be honest I think any cam bought in the last few years will give you great results and it's good to go with the one that works best for your working setup. I think the S1 and S5 produce incredible images straight out the box. There's definitely a steep learning curve with the RED - I wasn't super happy with the final image on this, but excited to learn as I go along. What didn't you like about the Komodo?
@@EdProsser I completely agree we are very fortunate to have so many options to choose from. As you said, I felt I wasn’t getting the best images and I do understand there’s definitely a learning Curve with R3D pipeline. I also really started to miss the full frame field of view and I am currently really digging the open gate modes on Panasonic. And finally I had an issue with the media when I got a gig, the cfast 2.0 card decided to play up as I started to roll but fortunately bought a spare camera with me. Keep up the great work and happy shooting.
Yeah, the Sony Exmor R IMX410 used in the Panasonic S1 is still a great sensor. Also used in Sony A7III, Nikon z6 I & II, Sigma FP and Panasonic's own S1H and S5.
50mm, the Komodo is a super 35 sensor so there's a 1.3x crop factor, but was using a focal reducer (which gets you back to full frame). The 4k footage would be cropped back to Super 35 though.
@@FUTUREINFINITYWORLD I've only really spent an hour with it so a bit early to tell. Obviously the RAW codec has a lot more flexibility in post. The Komodo image is maybe a bit smoother / more organic, it looks great paired with the Vespids. I'll definitely cover this in a future vid though - once I've racked up a bit more time. As I'm sure a lot of people will be interested in upgrading.
This is brilliant. Great footage, man! You said you were using a focal reducer along with the lens. Which one was it? Keep up the awesome work!
Just the canon one!
Check out my latest vid "the farm", that's all shot clean without filters or focal reducers.
This looks great. What was your colour grading process on the outdoor shots?
I think this was just graded in FCPX nothing too fancy!
Beautiful footage
Thanks, got lots more Komodo content coming over next few weeks.
