Ugly sticks are awesome. Probably going to be my next plane, but first I still have to finish my 9ft tiger moth , and Fairchild. It's amazing how fast we can accumulated planes, and still want more.
Hand warmers, warm water or gel packs, leaving your batteries in a warmer car, or just placing a battery pack in your pocket helps maintain their performance in cold weather. The Lipo chemistry will suffer noticeable voltage and performance losses in ambient temperatures below 60° degrees Fahrenheit.
Well you know the old saying, it's so ugly it's cute. Besides it flies great so that pretties it up a bit 🥴🥴. Nice clear day for some good flying 👍. ⚓⚓👍💛💚💜👍⚓⚓.
On a model like this the power required for the radio is a tiny fraction of the power used. Having a second battery can be done but in a model this size you are best to keep things simple and just get a larger main battery if you want a longer flight. However sometimes the impact on flight characteristics of a larger battery makes a lighter option and shorter flights more enjoyable.
Nice, but I crash too much to fly anything other than foam and foam board planes. As a kid in the fifties (I'm 77 now) I used to build scale model stick and paper rubberband powered planes - weeks to build and minutes to destroy beyond repair.
Not sure what it is about these planes but I absolutely love them. Been wanting to pick one up for a long time. I always fly it in the real flight sim.
Always give a thumbs up to your videos for content and and personality, would love to spend some time at the air field with you folks. I just got the one that has the red color scheme and I've got to build it and I might go with gasoline.. I love the simplicity always have of the ugly sticks and I don't find this ugly at all I find it simple and simple means easy. Merry Christmas guys
I thought so too, but for some reason this set up wouldn’t let me drop it below 3.8 volts!?!? Maybe I was in the wrong menu on my radio. Dunno, as this was the first time I’ve ever felt the need to adjust the LV setting on any plane 🤷♂️ Edit: on any Horizon SMART plane.
@@zeldacohen9140 I will try this. I haven’t tried changing the rxv yet, I have changed some other battery settings but still get the low voltage at full throttle on full battery. Back in the hobby after 10+ years and this smart tech is all new to me.
Cold temperatures preserves the chemicals in Lithium Polymer Batteries, it's the Hot Weather that kills them. Off season, I store my Liop Batteries in the refrigerator veggie crisper and they are as fresh as a Spring Day in Ireland for the flying season.
I built the 54" wingspan 'balsa" version from plans powering it with a 650Kv electric motor. I installed an 80amp ESC and fly it with a 5000mAh 4S battery. It's a beautiful flying model. Hope you get to build it but I don't know of a balsa kit availability. I got the plans off the Internet and had them blown up at a local printer.
Sorry to have photo-bombed your video at the first :15-:30 seconds in the background. It WAS a great afternoon, and I was hunting for a lost rocket, which I spotted high in a tree later on. Love to be able to share the Vinton Co. Airport with you guys. If you have a drone that can lift, we've got a rocket to lift out of the trees. Let's talk!

I've got a Wild Stick I got 15+ years ago, It's been flown once and not by me. LOL To much plane for me. Hopefully I'll get good enough to fly it someday.
I don’t use the alarm feature. I use the 20 second update feature and have the voice report my pack voltage. You can land when you hit your desired storage volts. 3.88x3=11.6 / x4=15.5 you won’t need a timer or voltage alarms anymore.
I just wish it would say the individual cell voltage rather than total voltage. Due to the fairly large variety of things I fly, I feel individual cell voltage is a more “universal language” and would make more sense for these radios to adopt that mind set. Would be less confusing for all of us flying on different sized packs, I think. 👍🎄😁😎⚓️
Hey Nate & Abby, love that Ultra Stick and that's the one I'd like to get less building. Question for yea, how come you don't use flaps when your landing to slow down?
Here’s a suggestion … If you want a little more style or realistic look, get a vacuum formed canopy scaled appropriately. If that’s a one piece wing, there are lots of ways to attach it. You could even get a pilot figure also. It’s a good look that some guys did way back when.
Is it an added one? Do you just need to adjust the level so it goes off at a lower voltage? What do you have that has one already installed in it from factory?
@@TheRcSaylors I've already adjusted the level as low as it can go and it still goes off I thought there was a way that you can get rid of it all together
Hello. I have a couple of questions. I bought lipo alarms like you suggested in one of your videos and set them to go off at 3.5 also as you suggested. Sometimes when I take off on a full battery, the alarm immediately starts going off and I’ll have to land it, unplug the alarm, plug it back in, and then it will be fine. Why does it do that sometimes? Also, I noticed it went off falsely numerous times in colder weather. Does the colder weather make them sooner than what you have them set at? Thanks
My target voltage is also 3.5-3.6V under load. When the battery is below 3V it damages it and will unload quickly. On very high load 1S batteries you might run it down to 3.3V. After landing, the battery should recover to 3.7V, then it will be fine. I verify the resting voltage for each model.
My friend and I tried to go flying today I had my UMX turbo Timber and he had his UMX night vapor. His night vapor never even turned on I got my turbo Timber to take off the motor was freaking out did a crash landing in the snow. Apparently they don't like -8 temperature 🤔🤗😜
That is cold. The lowest flying temp for me with my UMX TT was 23F (I check the temp before I fly). Got 6 minute flight time but wasn't pushing it much and started with a room temperature battery.
Same here. My Night Vapor has extremely short battery life around 40F. Under 40F it really doesn't work. Something about the battery or electronics just wasn't designed for low temperatures. A bit of a bummer with a long winter ahead. I was hoping to use the Night Vapor year round whenever the wind was low.
@@jamesturncliff5960 I hear you Mark. Our club has access to a school gym but the guys would rather do a build or just wait for non windy winter weather and fly outside. I lost my favorite plane cause one cell froze when flying with an outside temp of 20 degrees Fahrenheit. I know this cause the temp imbalance was significant even after a 10min walk back home and 5 min before I thought to check.
Calling the pack low at 3.8 volts a cell is too high. It cuts off before you use a majority of the capacity. Nominal is 3.7 volts. I usually run my foamys to 3.2 volts a cell.
