Giving the fact that the wax is extracted in Tanzania and then everything is shipped to the US to manufacture and then shipped again in a lot of county does not really seem as ethical as the brand claims it is....

What really makes me sad is that basically none of the manufacturing happens in Maine, which is where the company is based. The particular town that Burt's Bees originates from is pretty damn poor and the economy there could really use some jobs. But that's capitalism for ya.
Well maybe in the beginning, but the company was sold to Clorox....The co-founder Burt Shavitz passed so I can't say I'm surprised that the quality and nature of the company has also changed.

I would have much more appreciated it if you had talked about sustainability and ethics. What are these new harvesting methods? Are they harmful to the bees? Coming from Tanzania it's not certainly a zero km product, but is it at least fair trade? The fact that you didn't mention any of this makes me think all the answers would be negative.

This balm is the best, EOS looks nice and feels good at first, but then dries up super quickly. Glossier is more for looks, but this lip balm is so moisturizing, soft, and actually stays that way.
I’ve been a loyal customer of this product for years! So awesome to see how they actually make it!

A those bees don't need saving in fact they're most likely well kept since the company heavily relies on them in order to continue making lip balms.
So what chapstick do you consider using then??? My lips always get super dry and I've been using Burts Bees since I was young. They work great and I really doubt that they hurt the bees that much.

They don’t kill the bees, they use the beeswax. I love honey too.
There is a lot more ingredients in this lip balm than bees wax, coconut oil, vitamin E oil, rosemary extract, and peppermint oil. They claim to be natural when really it isn’t. Look at the labels of everything people.

Did anybody else feel uncomfortable by how the bees were handled (well, mishandled)? I winced when I saw how the beeswax was carelessly removed, and then sliced with a knife while the bees were still present. That's how you hurt & kill them. I couldn't stomach the video and had to click the Back button.

potito industry in general, really. Independent farms probably care more about their bees welfare but companies that mass produce are naturally going to care more about the ends than the means. A lot of bees die in the process of harvesting the things they make for the colony.
I like to read things like this to read into why bees make/ produce it in the first place and why we take it, then make a decision.
I've personally decided the way they do it is cruel based on all the research I've done, but people will ultimately make up their own minds. :-)
