Hey guys! I've received *SO MANY* comments about wearing a mask while mixing resin.
As you can tell from this video, I'm not wearing one. Since shooting this video, I have learned about using PPE while handling resin.
Always make sure to read your product labels before working with any potentially hazardous materials.
    Thanks everyone!

    Hiya,
    The coasters turned out stunning.
    Just a little tip:
The alcohol ink makes the resin level sink a bit and due to this you get the rough edges
What I usually do, when using alcohol ink, is adding more clear resin when it's almost cured. Like this you don't have to sand them in the end =)

That’s actually not the best way to do it. I discovered sometime after making these that the parts don’t weigh the same! It’s better to measure out the amounts in different cups and mix together. Less room for error.

Hi there, I really love this one. Is there a trick to not getting white blobs of ink sinking to the bottom and showing when you turn the coaster over?

    • @HappyCraftingLady
      @HappyCraftingLady  4 роки тому +18

I would say chances are you are having spots where you have the white drop and there is not already color on that spot. The trick is to drop the white alcohol ink right on top of the other colors. Any time it hits an empty spot is when you will get the white dropping down the way the colors do when you add the white to it! I hope this helps!

As a beginner I just made couple from a beginner kit with coaster molds and *powdered mica colors and gold flakes (still curing as I type). Also a heat gun. I see liquid alcohol ink has more pop with a lot less mess. I’ll buy that next but curious you opinion/advice on using silicon drops, UV resin, what brand resin is best and what tools best for making a space themed? My goal is a resin night light with galaxy. It can be done. It’s not rocket science 😉 I just need the right resin making chemical materials, colors, tools and galactic/level trial and error patience. Any advice with resin/tools? Mostly I try to just eyeball it when I am pouring it in the mold. They do not usually come out exactly the same height so I should probably start doing something better.. however they tend to be pretty close so I don’t usually worry about it too much.

I did sand it down because there is a lip on the edge of the coaster when you take it out of the mold. However I could not get a super shiny gloss with the sanding so instead I added another layer of resin to clear up the cloudiness. In the future I think I will add a small layer in top before I take the coasters out to try to get rid of the lip without having to sand it down.

@@HappyCraftingLady you have that little lip because of the mold, applying a top layer while they're still in the mold won't help. Concave and convex surfaces, boring physics crap, blah blah blah. Basically you need to take them out of the mold and then add that top layer too get rid of the lip. An alternative solution would be basically what you did, sand the lip off, and when you're happy with the shape set it aside until you're next resin project because it's not worth mixing a separate batch for the little you'll need. Just dip a gloved finger in your resin and wipe a thin coat on the sanded surface. That same thing also works when you're using a mold that isn't shiny which leaves your resin dull as well. Beautiful coasters BTW! I'm having a little trouble getting the hang of the alcohol inks, you make it look so simple. Ah well, practice practice practice.

There are a lot of bubbles because of your stir method. When stirring resin use a silicone mixing stick and cup. Stir SLOWLY in one direction. This will greatly reduce bubbles. 👍🏻👍🏻 (Also, you should never use a torch with silicone molds.)

Have you tried making them in more than one layer? Can you paint, then cure and pour another layer and will they fuse together?

I have not personally tried this technique, however I can say from experience that the resin typically sticks to anything you put it on except the silicone on the molds! I might just have to try this idea out and post a video showing how it works!

Hey there Happy Crafting Lady! I just sent your husband a response on Reddit, when he mentioned your channel. So here's my Expert-UA-camr-Connoisseur critique of your video that I sent to him:
    1) Your wife has awesome hair color!
    2) With that kind of hair color... I have to ask... and be honest now... was she ever at one point a Cyndi Lauper fan? Because if so, then so was I! Thus extra bonus points to her in my review!
(So many awesome memories of 1980's high school slow dances to Cyndi Lauper tunes... Time after Time...)
    3) The end product was actually totally super awesome! Your wife is actually a true artist. Seriously. So yes: tons of points for her in my review, for her artistic abilities.
    4) Unfortunately I'm going to have to reduce a few points due to the initial audio quality. But the ending audio quality perfectly fixed the problem. (So whatever she did at the end for microphone/audio was best.)
    5) So... all in all... thumbs up! I also subscribed to her channel!

These are beautiful. How much in fluid oz of resin did you use for 4’coasters ? Xx

I just rewatched in the video and I said 7.2 fluid ounces. As I don’t remember specifically... I would say that’s probably how much I did.

Do I NEED a torch or will a hairdryer set on hot work?. Thanks!

I have since stopped using a torch and started just spritzing the tops with rubbing alcohol to pop bubbles. The torch can add other problems I was unaware of.
