Hey guys! I've received *SO MANY* comments about wearing a mask while mixing resin. As you can tell from this video, I'm not wearing one. Since shooting this video, I have learned about using PPE while handling resin. Always make sure to read your product labels before working with any potentially hazardous materials. Thanks everyone!
Hiya, The coasters turned out stunning. Just a little tip: The alcohol ink makes the resin level sink a bit and due to this you get the rough edges What I usually do, when using alcohol ink, is adding more clear resin when it's almost cured. Like this you don't have to sand them in the end =)
That’s actually not the best way to do it. I discovered sometime after making these that the parts don’t weigh the same! It’s better to measure out the amounts in different cups and mix together. Less room for error.
I just came across this video..what a great, laidback style you have! You just took a very intimidating substance and made it possible for everyone to be successful! Good job!
Just as a heads up when I shot this video I was unaware about proper PPE for using resin. You should use a proper mask because resin can be toxic if breathed in! However it is awesome to create things with! Don’t let the mask intimidate you!
Thank you, that’s important advise. I am not new to resin as my husband and I are both artists who have used it a lot. I was just struck by your wonderful, easy demeanor and thought you did an excellent job of making it less scary for newbies.
These are breathtaking. I like how you know your techniques well. I also love the extra empty space, if only you poured more clear at the beginning, the 3d effect would look much stronger. And this is a very beautifully looking cosmic explosion. Keep up your creativity and keep inspiring us
Those coasters are really great. If you don't like the colorless edges, you could always add a top coat in a color that complements the inks you used. If you like, a good channel to watch would be - pouringyourheartout , she makes lovely resin items as well as coasters. Thanks for sharing your method.
Go for it Kat! There are so many different things you could do with different colors or patterns! And they always turn out different because the alcohol ink kinda does what it wants.
I do so much crafting! I am working on setting up a small resin jewelry video and doing some tile coasters at the moment! I also do resin tumblers and acrylic pour painting and I sew a little and I crochet and make hair bows... Never know what the day will bring!
Thank you for being so detailed with your instructions! I'm so excited to try my alcohol ink. I'm new to this so it's super helpful to have someone like you show me what to do!
Happy Crafting Lady so far it’s a tile that I’ve turned into a coaster, some really lame paintings in my office (done by me) and a few good ones (done by my friend!)
Wow, PLEASE wear a mask! your coasters are Stunning, I love the effect you got going there and hope when I try this it comes out as pretty as yours, I've just found your channel and I know I'll be following lots of your videos by the way, new subbie and of course hit the bell, thank you for sharing
Dropped by from your husband's post on reddit loved the video and subscribed with notifications on (: . And I'm totally gonna make these coaster for my mom
I know right?? Lol I notice it now when I go back and watch my videos from almost a year ago. But when I first started (about a year ago) I didn’t really know that you shouldn’t do that. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
I would say chances are you are having spots where you have the white drop and there is not already color on that spot. The trick is to drop the white alcohol ink right on top of the other colors. Any time it hits an empty spot is when you will get the white dropping down the way the colors do when you add the white to it! I hope this helps!
@@HappyCraftingLady That's a tough one! I'm going to say howl's moving castle! I haven't seen them all but next on my watch list is Porco Rosso and When Marnie was there!

Hey there Happy Crafting Lady! I just sent your husband a response on Reddit, when he mentioned your channel. So here's my Expert-UA-camr-Connoisseur critique of your video that I sent to him: 1) Your wife has awesome hair color! 2) With that kind of hair color... I have to ask... and be honest now... was she ever at one point a Cyndi Lauper fan? Because if so, then so was I! Thus extra bonus points to her in my review! (So many awesome memories of 1980's high school slow dances to Cyndi Lauper tunes... Time after Time...) 3) The end product was actually totally super awesome! Your wife is actually a true artist. Seriously. So yes: tons of points for her in my review, for her artistic abilities. 4) Unfortunately I'm going to have to reduce a few points due to the initial audio quality. But the ending audio quality perfectly fixed the problem. (So whatever she did at the end for microphone/audio was best.) 5) So... all in all... thumbs up! I also subscribed to her channel!
This is so cool! I’ve looked for someone experienced in working with resin that gives good tutorials, you should definitely do more, have you ever done bugs in resin?
Thank you so much for your support. It means so much to me! I’ve considered doing something with butterflies...but like...where do you get the butterflies?! Have you ever done something like that before?
@@HappyCraftingLady okay so I definitely want to see some bug crafts and you can find wholesale ones at bugsdirect or you can search for "unmounted insects" and find other ones.
Very informative video! Love the empty space you preserved with these. I was wondering what the outcome would be if you increased the depth of the mold?
It would really depend on a lot of things. The amount of inks. The temperature of your resin. The temperature of the room. The drops of the white… anything could cause a different effect!
I have not personally tried this technique, however I can say from experience that the resin typically sticks to anything you put it on except the silicone on the molds! I might just have to try this idea out and post a video showing how it works!
These turned out stunning! Will have to try this. Just a suggestion, when showing the finished coasters, either hold them a little back from the camera or refocus it. I really wanted to see the fine details but it was blurry. Thank you for sharing this with us, great idea. 🤗
Yes I am trying to work on that! This was my very first video and I wasn’t 100% on where to hold things. Honest I’m still learning cause I can’t see exactly when my hands are in the view! I’m so glad you like the coasters!

As a beginner I just made couple from a beginner kit with coaster molds and *powdered mica colors and gold flakes (still curing as I type). Also a heat gun. I see liquid alcohol ink has more pop with a lot less mess. I’ll buy that next but curious you opinion/advice on using silicon drops, UV resin, what brand resin is best and what tools best for making a space themed? My goal is a resin night light with galaxy. It can be done. It’s not rocket science 😉 I just need the right resin making chemical materials, colors, tools and galactic/level trial and error patience. Any advice with resin/tools? Thanks in advance and thanks for helpful vid!
These pieces I did are meant to be coasters. Though I think they are so pretty they could be used as a decorative piece just to have laying around or used for something else!
If it is heat resistant or not is dependent on the brand of resin you use. You can search the brands you have available for you and which resist heat the best! Also know if the resin is not 100% cured it will be more apt to be damaged by heat!
I have since stopped using a torch and started just spritzing the tops with rubbing alcohol to pop bubbles. The torch can add other problems I was unaware of.
Is your Esty store closed? When i clicked on the link it said not found. Thanks for the video i am going to start doing the resin coaster just for me i love the effect that the alcohol inks had on these coasters they turned out beautifully.
