Yes looks strange to see such a big gap, i didn't realize they were knocking the whole thing down, i took a pic yesterday www.mediafire.com/view/u90urxvhnc59zcz/20200507_165353.jpg/file
God I haven't been to yarmouth for about 38 years, loved the marina centre, and that bit on the rollercoaster where you go over the hill and plummet down and come out of your seat just as you go inside and think you're going to hit your head on the roof!
"loved the marina centre" - Many of us did, including me but since this footage was taken it's been flattened. We're meant to be getting a replacement on the same site by mid-next year.
The pleasure beach looks bare compared to the 80's, It was packed full of rides back then. I have fond memories when I was a kid riding the snails where that lame looking giant with the orange top is located now. There used to be a big giant with a club and hat that stood next to a shoe house.
Excellent video! So sad to see such a fun place for so many holiday makers so deserted but I’m sure that like a Phoenix Great Yarmouth will rise from the ashes. In the 1950s I lived in Lowestoft and my mother would take us to Yarmouth as a treat two or three times during the summer. Later in the early 60s I would go there with my mates to see pop stars of the day at the Odeon of Windmill theatres and hang out at the pleasure beach.
That's was deffo a good time to be around hear, I have heard how busy it used to get hear when the oil rig jobs was hear and the fishing industry, I have only been hear about 10 years now so missed all of that, they are redoing certain areas hear like the water ways has all been revamped also the glass building might be done back up as well, me I love it hear regardless, get some good storms hear to :)
@@riche4you1975 I grew up in nearby Bradwell and went to school in Gorleston the '80s. GY town centre was quite a happening place back then, record shops, many small, independent clothes shops. The club scene was quite active too with a number of big clubs on the sea front and a row of smaller pubs & bars on King Street. There were often national club events on in GY too, which you'd hear mentioned on Radio 1. I'm still a big fan of the town and Gorleston. IMO, they both have a lot going for them.
Sure i will see if i can get the drone out at the weekend and will upload it here, i did hear they got the funding to sort it out i think so figers crossed as it would be a shame to let the building go.
Are they knocking down the swimming pool?

Lol. It doesn't look any different.
If it was winter then yes lol
It looks like they have started boarding up the winter gardens. If you can, try and get footage of the winter gardens itself
