Thanks for sharing your message and thanks to old Tony for these videos. Keep up the great work.
Comments, Stop stating the obvious! Mr Tony is a bright man, and it's his kid. People have to stop raising other people's kid or at least let the family's that are strong be a family. Yes, it's dangerous, yes he will most likely get a couple of bumps and bruises but that's the beauty of it, a memory shared between a father and son! He obviously knows what's safe for his kid, don't think your saving the day!
Just wanted tell you how much I enjoyed this build video, the second time. As a young boy I was obsessed with go carts, bb guns, and mini bikes. I never had them, but back then you'd just have to find someone who did. I really enjoyed seeing your mental process. Another thing that changed from way back then was that being a fabricator was not a compliment. Usually followed by a hiding, and lengthy retreat to my room to reflect on my misdeeds. Thanks so much. Keep up the good work.
Downhill here, too. We used our feet to steer the 2x4 front axle. Somebody got the idea to put a rope on it. We had to drive it into the brush to get it to stop.
You're an amazing father. I've always wanted a go kart but my father was too busy working to help me build one when I was a teenager. When I have kids this is the kind of dad I want to be. Making time for them and letting them have fun.
I think it's great that a dad is using his talents to build things for his kids. Even better, we get some fun videos to watch out of it. Keep it up Tony.
Awesome build. Looks like a blast. Your TIG, Millwork, Lathe, & Fab, and CNC skills are awesome. To fab without a frame jig is very difficult! Keep the awesome videos & projects coming. Maybe cut where the frame is sleeved and make the frame longer. Make the seat a bench seat with a seat frame that's adjustable. This should accomodate your daughter & son. Make a cover on the front floor pan to protect rack & pinion from sneaker laces.
bench seat? really? like driving miss daisy. so lame. i loved watching this project. you sir are to be commended for your efforts. top notch fabricator and dad. A+ God bless.
In 1966 when I was a young boy in CT. we had a visitor to our metal shop class. He had a twin McCullough chainsaw motors and 4 wheel disk brake go-kart. It was a beast. I was hooked. You did a fine job building this sled. Congratulations.
Drop tire pressure very slightly, like 5-10%. I use an infrared temp gun on tires. Measure across the tread, look at inside, center, and outside after driving a few minutes. Measuring temp then compensating alignment and tire pressure works incredibly well for tire life!
You are an amazing Dad. In raising kids, you get one opportunity, there are no do overs and I cannot imagine your kids wanting it any other way. They are quite fortunate to have you. I ran go carts when I was a kid back in the 60s. We had basically 2 types, sprint carts such as yours and enduro carts where you were more laying down with a butterfly steering wheel between your legs and 2 gas tanks, one on each side of you. And..... we ran chainsaw motors, McCullough to be exact. Very high revving, could be clutches as you have or direct drive for more serious stuff. Old Tillotson carburetors. And your kids are out in the air, not sitting at some electronics console staring blankly at a TV screen. They will thank you later in life.
Mr. Tony, I'm just 21 years old right now, but honestly, if and when I do have kids, I want to be a father like you. Honestly, I love machining and building "things" so if could do that, and also make some of the most important people in my life as happy as your kids, I'd be just as happy. Thanks for the videos you make. They're some of the most enjoyable in my books.
Dude, you are my freaking hero. You are like “I’m gonna take some junk I have just sitting here and I’ll add some math and a bit of time and I’ll make a cute little toy for my kids”. Well the finished product looks really good and you made a fantastic little series that was fun to watch. Well done.
I got sucked in after seeing part 1. I ended up watching the complete build and I think I was smiling the whole time! I can only imagine what this means for your kids and the lifelong memories you will share with them. You sir, are quite possibly the coolest Dad on UA-cam.
Not being a dad, I kept thinking while watching this "He's putting so much time into something he can't even drive!" I guess this is what loving them does to you.
Yes, there is certainly something that is hard to explain about this kind of love, but regardless I think you get it. That is certainly the idea, and MOT is a very solid character :)
WOW, what a ride for a youngster!! I never had a go cart or scooter, I am green with envy, but at 6' 1" and well, full adult weight, I won't be showing up at your house for my turn on the cart. Great build, loved every episode, and the humor? Well that is what keeps me coming back to your channel.
This is the greatest I watched all 4 videos a true American a great father I didn't see what you look like but I bet that Boy is spitting image of you😉 the best entertaining I ever got off youtube. show to the young guys your craftsmanship and hope they learn from you 😋 l was that lucky 55 years ago with truck mechanic, get over here and pay attention I'm only going to tell you once and show me. I did thank God for him. How do you build a trailer with a axle at the back and steer axle at front for 40 ft. Camper trailer?no tongue weight, backing up works??? God bless you and your family many thanks 😉 I watch the last minute or so of the video you fake me out you rascal you I thought your son was really going that fast 😄
Hey this is the Apollo how you doing today it's 3 eastern time I'm just now waking hey did you get my message about the trailer with a axle at the very back steer axle at the front
Victor Stanwick only on american vehicles... lol In europe ( i think tony lives in italy or something) cupholders are rare or non existent.... driving is a full time 100% attention job! No need to have a drink, eat a burger or read a newspaper ....
I'm sorry but I haven't seen a European car manufactured in the last 25 years without cup holders. The only exception I can think of are some of the exotic super cars.
All I can say is WOW ! I'm impressed . All the work you went through to make this series and the cart itself. When I was 14 years old(many moons ago) I build a go cart using mostly parts from an old 60's era snowmobile . It was all done in my parents basement with a hacksaw and a 110 stick welder. It worked great. Now when I look back I'm amazed it even worked at all but it did.
Yep, reading comments and I totally agree. Great dad inspiration to be found here! I wish I could have done something like this for my son. But, thank you for sharing this great build! I think a ToT t shirt or sweatshirt is in order.
My day bought me a used go kart as a kid... I couldn't wait to drive it. Only thing was it had gears and a clutch for a 7 year old it was too much, I think Xmas day was the only day I ever sat in it with the engine running. I like wanted to grow up so I could drive it ! Now I look back with different eyes. ToT..keep doing what you do it's great. I hope your son Masters some of the skills you have. The world needs more Logical and practical people.. Sounds like Super tramp time.
This Old Tony While it was a pleasure seeing the machine and welding work done on this job due to my grandfather having done the same for GE for 43 years, and my father for the American Can Co for 27, you worried to much over inconsequentials . The chainsaw motor would have worked fine if you ran the chain drive to a belt slip compression clutch available on eBay for 30-40$ . And all the front steering technicaities with caster, camber, and etc were totally unnecessary at speed's under 30 MPH, just look at what Mr Ford did with the Model T & A .
OMG, amazing Engineering, amazing video footage of everything, amazing Dad and a reminder to self of something I realized recently at the age of 51, if possible, start applying what we do for our employers or others daily to something we can do for our loved ones, parents, kids, ourselves... the whole dynamic of the project changes...
Hey Tony, I know here in the states that we have standardized utility-trailer tires. Usually they come like 8" or 12" and they also come with the wheel too. I know you are more knowledgeable than me; however, thought I would mention that. I have purchased them at tractor supply and they have excellent durability. You might also have those retreaded if they offer that there.
Growing up, my dad built me a go cart. We had a couple, and a few dirt bikes. Mine didn’t look quite as good as that one did but I’m 28 now. I still remember those days like it was yesterday. You did a great job and your kids will cherish this! Nicely done.
Wow just wow. The commentary the camera angles the tools the editing. Father of the year. Machinist of the year. UA-camr of the year. I can go on and on. I had a small pocket bike that I took the engine off and started cutting up my son's pedal go-kart to put it on. Long story sure it's the same engine you're using and even though it didn't come out and eighth of his good as oh, your videos still gave me some great ideas and pointed me in the right direction. Pretty small thing to be impressed by but the swivel socket U-joint blew my mind. Great job please whatever you do don't stop
This was an amazing video. Plus the fact you made most of everything ... I really enjoyed watching the entire thing , your really good at explaining things as you go. I think you should do a series of videos, Love the humor "!"
SO2002. He’s at least Bi lingual so he probably has a much more extensive vocabulary then you do. “No one likes people that can’t spell” so fuck all the dyslexics huh?People like you who obviously knew exactly what he meant to spell yet feel the need to comment like some 6th grade divorcée English teacher are the type of people that can’t even keep friends with free drinks.
sir you are a true craftsman ALL THE WAY AROUND ,from your fabricting, fathering, even yor film makin second to none. if your not a teaher somehere you shuld be. i hope to see many more things fom you.great job.
Not to scare you,Tony! But I have a suggestion, based on persona (real-life) experience: Try to get a shoulder belt onto this. My go kart had a lap belt, which was good.... and it had a roll cage, which was good... and when I drove straight into a tree, the lap belt kept my waist secured. That meant my head snapped forward and I smashed my face into the padded steering wheel, which broke my nose and introduced two decades of sinus problems.
that is why you wear helmet and preferably neck support and if you really want to safe - a rib guard while riding these, that is safer than a seat belt and roll cages, because stiff - non shock absorbing structures, rigid seating and tight belts introduce problems and risks of their own, there are quite a few design problems when designing "safety cell", and making everything very rigid and tight is actually bad, think about this way - if you didn't have the belt at all in your accident, you would have hit the steering wheel with your rib cage while also absorbing some of your bodies kinetic energy with your legs, and there would be very little chance of your nose hitting anything - damage would still be done, but it wouldn't be concentrated at the head area - which is pretty much the worst part of the body to use to absorb impacts for a human as I've said times before in this series - just look at pro carting equipment for kids, it is FIA regulated stuff, every rule there is for a good reason, accidents do happen, and serious injuries are pretty rare, that being said, if I was a parent of one of the kids driving there in competitions, I would probably have 57 heart attacks average per race
I agree on all efforts to protect his kids, but looking at proportions, there is also a top limit for protection when you consider the moderate speed this cart has. I hope your injury has been cured and you are well.
I dont have belts on my kart. With a super low center of gravity and no roll bars its really hard to flip. The one time I did, I was glad to be able to jump free. Would have been a disaster if i was strapped in. Unless you have a rollbar installed you don't want to be strapped in if it happens to flip, imo
Or you pay attention to where you're driving... I drove two fast go karts from ages 8-13, I never hit a tree. Theres a steering wheel and brake to make sure that doesn't happen lol.
You can make a seat insert from expanding foam. Basically you put a bag full of expanding foam in the seat and sit in it. Then you cut and shape it to be more comfy. Cheap seat insert. That's what the pros do
My Grandfather built me a relatively simple push powered wooden cart when I was about 5 or 6? but with "real" (a wheel) steering - all of the other kids had rope. I loved that thing beyond belief! Above all you've built memories for your kids that will last them forever.
My go-cart tires came from the airport, the take off tires from small airplanes they had a lot of tread left but couldn't be used on the plane, find a tire guy that does airplane tires, they use to give them to me.
GOD DAMN - I thought I was a cool Dad when I got my daughter a Barbie Jeep from WalMart!!! This man is obviously the Greek God of design, welding and fabrication!!! I’m a “better than average” DIY’er and I’ve renovated most of my house & built a huge, 2 level, custom deck around our pool. Everyone compliments me on how good my work comes out (they’re obviously correct!), but this gentleman makes me feel like I’m playing with Lincoln Logs an Erector Set and Tinker Toys!! Genius level mastery - I’m in awe!!!! Your children are mire lucky than they’ll probably realize until they grow older!!
When I was probably about your son's age, I came up with the idea of attaching the chainsaw that we didn't use to my radio flyer wagon. My dad didn't seem totally opposed but needless to say it never happened. My young self never considered brakes or that the handle that was used to steer it probably wasn't going to manage the steering too well. This was awesome to see and a sort of childhood dream realized. Your son and daughter are lucky to have you as a father!
Love it! I thought wow this thing really moves but sure it's sped up. Then I saw the normal video and though awwww it's not that fast until my daddy mode kicked in and thought OK it's plenty fast enough. Wish I had the skills to build one for my little girl.
This was one of my favorite videos on UA-cam. It was real, even with all your amazing skills you still screwed up a few times to go back and fix it and show it was amazing. So much respect for the realism. Thank you for doing this it was a blast watching it.
That was one of if not the best build video I have ever watched. Kudos to you sir. I am sure that your kids are of the opinion that they have the greatest dad ever. A small no huge benefit of putting children in any motorsport hobbies (go-cart motorcycle fourwheeler etc.) makes for a better driver once they start driving cars. Anyway GREAT JOB.
My dad got me a go kart for keeping A-B grades in fourth grade, not sure if ever touched it after the fifth grade. It was a great concept, but they just break too easily.
I'm gonna do it. I estimate $600 in supplies, $87,000 in tools and equipment, 2 - 3 years to learn how to do everything. I could cut the learning time if I quit my job.
LOL.. was thinking the same thing...
🤣🤣🤣
i think you are a little shy on the tool budget haha
I be thinking craigslist and scooping up a used kart and instead of taking all the time to build use all that time and go to the local kart track watching the young one learn how to drive, race, learn about apex and lines and all the do's and don'ts .

be careful those stickers alone add 50 hp to the cart.
and every speck of red on it adds 10 hp as well
Only if you install the flame decals for the stickers to work off of.
V-TEC Kicks in yo! add +1000hp
“I’m not gonna put alot of money into it” *puts Sparco steering wheel on* 😂😂
I'd guess he already had the wheel. IIRC those go for about $200 and up new.
Can't afford tires but owns welders, lathe etc
@@M98-j9k exactly, he already has those tools and doesn't want to shell out almost car tire money on tires for a toy for his kids
@@M98-j9k If he bought all proper expensive parts it probably would cost as much as his lathe.

didnt your dad make u a pushcart with steerin wheel and bearings for wheels ?
Yup me as well!
That kids a future yellow Corvette owner, I can almost guarantee it!!
Pretty cool for you to make that for your kids. Wouldn't be surprised if you come up with a man version. Koodos dude

You're an amazing father. I've always wanted a go kart but my father was too busy working to help me build one when I was a teenager. When I have kids this is the kind of dad I want to be. Making time for them and letting them have fun.
I have enjoyed watching the build. And I love your humor! I am blown away with your shop! Thanks for sharing!
God bless.
In 1966 when I was a young boy in CT. we had a visitor to our metal shop class. He had a twin McCullough chainsaw motors and 4 wheel disk brake go-kart. It was a beast. I was hooked. You did a fine job building this sled. Congratulations.
Finally!!
This is the series that brought me to your channel, i'm so excited to finally see it finished!
That's quite recent! Have fun watching ALL of his video ;P
Drop tire pressure very slightly, like 5-10%.
I use an infrared temp gun on tires. Measure across the tread, look at inside, center, and outside after driving a few minutes. Measuring temp then compensating alignment and tire pressure works incredibly well for tire life!
thats awesome pal
I'm 42, no kids, yet I just finished watching all 4 parts of your go cart build! Awesome work and nicely produced too! :)
Speedytrip 42 and with no kids? why not
@@passwordcrx488 Indeed, life choices. Many people have kids when they shouldn't, just because society says you need to have kids :)
Speedytrip hmmm interesting 🤔
So the video inspired you to make some kids... then make a go kart... then a minibike...
@@BuzzLOLOL Video was great, but not THAT great :D
Outstanding! Above all things, your kids will likely remember this build for the rest of their lives.
Well done.
Heck yeah, that's the cherry on top. The incredibly well produced, fun to watch, video series.
Be prepared to have 8 new versions by the time he is 14
The good part is he might be able to sell the previous builds to younger neighboring kids to support the necessity as they grow up !! Lol
I think versions 3 and 4 might have a bit more assistance from the drivers lol
Extendable frame and adjustable steering column....
And a few replacement teeth due to crashes.
This is how I broke my first bones. Ah, the joys of childhood... and casts itch like hell during summer!
I got sucked in after seeing part 1. I ended up watching the complete build and I think I was smiling the whole time! I can only imagine what this means for your kids and the lifelong memories you will share with them.
You sir, are quite possibly the coolest Dad on UA-cam.
And I thought the shord video was cool. This ought to get you elected into the "Dad's Hall of Fame"
oldironrecycler those AND the repeater rubber band gun!
And the shord ;)
Not being a dad, I kept thinking while watching this "He's putting so much time into something he can't even drive!"
I guess this is what loving them does to you.
Yes, there is certainly something that is hard to explain about this kind of love, but regardless I think you get it. That is certainly the idea, and MOT is a very solid character :)
I think he's ready for 100% throttle.
Needs better tires first.
I wonder, how often your kids came to workshop and asked the main question: " Daad, WHEN?
A lot. Though he'd sit in the bucket seat on the floor, spinning, while holding an impromptu steering wheel, and that'd buy me more time.
Probably so much he wasn't allowed in the shop anymore, lol haha
Thanks Apaulo!
Hey this is the Apollo how you doing today it's 3 eastern time I'm just now waking hey did you get my message about the trailer with a axle at the very back steer axle at the front
Awesome build! A true labor of love for your kids. You hit every detail right on the nose. Thanks for sharing this project!
What can you say about a dad who takes the time to show his kids they are the reason he works so hard each and every day. Great job!!! New subscriber.
Where's the cup holder? Someone had to ask.
Victor Stanwick only on american vehicles... lol
In europe ( i think tony lives in italy or something) cupholders are rare or non existent.... driving is a full time 100% attention job! No need to have a drink, eat a burger or read a newspaper ....
I'm sorry but I haven't seen a European car manufactured in the last 25 years without cup holders. The only exception I can think of are some of the exotic super cars.
SierraLimaOscar
Remember how the lack of cup holders in Volkswagens in the early 90s almost ruined em?
I drive a Vauxhall and it has two cup holders...
MrTheHillfolk Don't forget the 94 Ranger
All I can say is WOW ! I'm impressed . All the work you went through to make this series and the cart itself. When I was 14 years old(many moons ago) I build a go cart using mostly parts from an old 60's era snowmobile . It was all done in my parents basement with a hacksaw and a 110 stick welder. It worked great. Now when I look back I'm amazed it even worked at all but it did.
There is so much win in this that I have utterly lost the ability to even. Magnificent. I look forward to the aero package.
hah, thanks Forth!
I'm 66 and would love to have this. Would you be my dad ?
Thanks BHJ!
Amazing!! the I
freudian slip. ;)
This Old Tony
While it was a pleasure seeing the machine and welding work done on this job due to my grandfather having done the same for GE for 43 years, and my father for the American Can Co for 27, you worried to much over inconsequentials .

Who doesn't love NY??
OMG, amazing Engineering, amazing video footage of everything, amazing Dad and a reminder to self of something I realized recently at the age of 51, if possible, start applying what we do for our employers or others daily to something we can do for our loved ones, parents, kids, ourselves... the whole dynamic of the project changes...
Garage door opener or other radio transmitter to a kill switch so you can kill it remotely.
Michael Hart They also have them foam filled so they won't go flat!
Growing up, my dad built me a go cart. We had a couple, and a few dirt bikes. Mine didn’t look quite as good as that one did but I’m 28 now. I still remember those days like it was yesterday. You did a great job and your kids will cherish this! Nicely done.
Be honest bro, hows it handle with YOU on it?
not to mention all the driving footage was sped up in post
You're an awesome dad...; ) Your kids will remember that Go Kart the rest of their lives.......good on ya!
I always wanted to learn welding. It would allow me to create even more great builds with my wood working projects.
lol yes you must use a hardwood.
PinballMan Pick up a cheap TIG and get started. It is such a useful skill.
LegionStriker n
not to be picky but when welding hardwood its best to use a dowel of the same wood for filler. chopsticks can also be used as a backup.
One Hell of a job! Looked forward to each video, great build
Thanks!
thanks for this share ! Amazing build how lucky the kids to have a Dad who spends his time doing stuff that will enhance their life! Cheers fella
This was an amazing video.
Plus the fact you made most of everything ...
I really enjoyed watching the entire thing , your really good at explaining things as you go.
I think you should do a series of videos,
Love the humor "!"
yah, I just watched all 4 and am about to watch the addendum too. This is a great show !
Lucky kid that have such a cool dad :) my DAUGHTER is 14 months old now and i can't wait to make stuff for her :P

That meant my head snapped forward and I smashed my face into the padded steering wheel, which broke my nose and introduced two decades of sinus problems.
that is why you wear helmet and preferably neck support and if you really want to safe - a rib guard while riding these, that is safer than a seat belt and roll cages, because stiff - non shock absorbing structures, rigid seating and tight belts introduce problems and risks of their own, there are quite a few design problems when designing "safety cell", and making everything very rigid and tight is actually bad, think about this way - if you didn't have the belt at all in your accident, you would have hit the steering wheel with your rib cage while also absorbing some of your bodies kinetic energy with your legs, and there would be very little chance of your nose hitting anything - damage would still be done, but it wouldn't be concentrated at the head area - which is pretty much the worst part of the body to use to absorb impacts for a human
as I've said times before in this series - just look at pro carting equipment for kids, it is FIA regulated stuff, every rule there is for a good reason, accidents do happen, and serious injuries are pretty rare, that being said, if I was a parent of one of the kids driving there in competitions, I would probably have 57 heart attacks average per race
Ive seen more kids hurt by having seat belts and roll bars on their carts than those without them.
How many fights have started over who's riding too much?
Only way to fix that is to build another cart.
I can hear an excitement in your voice during this project for your kids that doesn't exist in any project you've ever done for yourself. Nice.
Now it needs a fiberglass body and some sort of rollcage along with lights for night riding.
You can make a seat insert from expanding foam. Basically you put a bag full of expanding foam in the seat and sit in it. Then you cut and shape it to be more comfy. Cheap seat insert. That's what the pros do
yes thats right, but butt gets hot
My Grandfather built me a relatively simple push powered wooden cart when I was about 5 or 6? but with "real" (a wheel) steering - all of the other kids had rope. I loved that thing beyond belief! Above all you've built memories for your kids that will last them forever.
My go-cart tires came from the airport, the take off tires from small airplanes they had a lot of tread left but couldn't be used on the plane, find a tire guy that does airplane tires, they use to give them to me.
6:54 best moment of the whole series
And Now ! The daddy's shifter cart ! With a ninja motor ! 👍🏼😳
9:34 is where he adds the power source.
On the straightaways its maybe 15mph? For a 5 yo, if it moves, makes noise, and he's steering it, it's a win. :)
This Old Tony it's epic!
Two years in... How much adjustment has the cart needed?
Maybe completely new build series..?!
14 sets of tires and stretching the frame.
What a great dad. Your son's going to have some very special memories of these times. Good on you.
That looks really good. Your wife is going to be pissed with all the time you are going to be in the garage staring at this thing smiling.
Sounds like me and anything I make or the new toys I get.
I wish I had something like this as a kid. I had to make one myself out of planks and ask adults to push me around.
I did the same with an old shopping cart and got the slightly younger neighbor to push me around.
I made one when I was 5 out of wood that used 2 drill motors to push it. I miss those days!
Good, don't give your kids a huge gas tank. This whole build looks like a passion of love. What a great father.
You should publish the plans. That was awesome man!
Plans? ;)
where we're going we don't need "plans".
This Old Tony the cad stuff
BasementShopGuy plans.. hahaha
Time to get out the Brainalyzer!
Top quality dad joke. Embrace it!

This was one of my favorite videos on UA-cam. It was real, even with all your amazing skills you still screwed up a few times to go back and fix it and show it was amazing. So much respect for the realism. Thank you for doing this it was a blast watching it.
Now all it needs is an antikythera mechanism.
Great freaking job!! Great welding!!👍🏻
Warning!
Kids outgrow go-karts faster than shoes.
My dad got me a go kart for keeping A-B grades in fourth grade, not sure if ever touched it after the fifth grade. It was a great concept, but they just break too easily.
