  • Опубліковано 20 тра 2023
  • Kathryn Eybers recounts her journey to invite fertility back into their lovely piece of land in the Klein Karoo.
    Over the past 18 years, Kathryn and Ross have restored the land from a barren farm to a bountiful food garden teeming with life- all through the practice of permaculture.
    Their home and garden is a testament to the deep connection they have fostered with the land, which in turn nourishes and sustains them through the years.

    Just discovered your channel. My girlfriend is from Cape Town and we live together in Belgium. We consider moving to SA in the future. This channel is inspiring and provides some fresh air compared to all the negative content you find about SA.
    Keep it up!

    I also had the privilege of staying and helping out with Kathryn & Ross at Numbi Valley. It was the single most inspirational of the farms I stayed at during just over 2 years of WWOOF and Workaway experience. Ross’s sculpture skills as much as the incredibly lush fertility they created and the beauty of the relatively untouched landscape. Thanks so much for sharing your story Kathryn & Ross

      How much input do they have from unpaid labor (interns) or cheap labor (the population that will work for very low wages).

      You should not forget that they can buy cheap human labor in that part of the world. This kind of agriculture / gardening is labor intense (even if you try to set up permaculture - it might be less work once it is established, but getting there is a lot of effort). One reason many struggle in the developed countries is that they have to do it all by themselves - and at the same time they have relatively high cost of living even if they are living modestly.
      Those that get a reputation as teachers have it easier - they too have cheap labor in form of unpaid interns / students.

    What a story. What you're doing is incredible. We we're there for a permaculture tour and stayed in the original cob house. We learnt so much and had a very peaceful stay. We also bought a wide variety of heirloom seeds from them (still some of the best I've been able to get my hands on). Glad even more people are getting to see this.

    You need cows and goats, maybe even pigs. Plants grow better with manure

    • @numbivalley4892
      @numbivalley4892 Рік тому +4

      We use manure from a dairy near us to make compost heaps. And sometimes bring in horse dung from stables in town when we do go in. The chickens are magicians at fertilizing the veggie beds. We find that combination works beautifully
