Cash is seriously underrated in an emergency kit. It’s saved my rear just when there was a computer glitch at my credit union and their atms and debit cards were down for a day. You don’t want to get caught unable to pay for the meal you just ate, or stuck in a snowstorm without a way to pay for a hotel room.

Ditto. Got caught with a card glitch in nowhere Texas and needed gas. Having cash saved me having to trade something of value.

Whats your opinion on quick clot granules?

    • @greyscout01
      @greyscout01 7 місяців тому +6

@@brianleabo6295 Quik Clot is good stuff and works like it's supposed to. It burns like blazes for a minute or two. BUT, at the hospital, it has to be cleaned out of the wound for stitching. It stops the bleed, and you can close the wound in a SHFT situation, but it has its limits. The 'Israeli bandage' and compressed gauze are cleaner options.

Toilet paper and tampons would be very handy too. I would also suggest checklists for common emergency types. If it's a wildfire, stay out of the forest, nuclear fallout? stay inside, close windows, turn off HVAC. stuff like that. Many people will (understandably) lose their minds in a serious catastrophe, so a checklist might help keep them focused on their responsibilities. Maybe a list of loved ones' phone numbers/email addresses in case you lose your electronics.

An urban kit is absolutely essential, most everybody lives in a city or within five minutes of one. An urban emergency kit is one of the most underrated kits because everybody’s so consumed with Bushcraft and thinking that they’re actually gonna runoff to the forest and survive.

The sprawling urban environment of greater Phoenix, AZ, for example, can take considerable time to cross on foot. Accurate maps will be priceless for going from A to B. Hopefully aqueducts will continue to flow during emergencies. You will want to purify the water. During an EMP event, bicycles with dedicated trailers will be hugely valuable, You will want to keep yourself in adequate physical shape to cover as much distance per unit time that you can. A lightweight, folding semiauto carbine in a caliber like 9mm or .40 S & W deserves consideration. You can benefit from traveling in a small, efficient, cohesive group of 4 to 6 members. Carry at least 2,000 calories of food per planned day.

One item I'd recommend is GU packets. It's a small packet filled with caffeinated gel that also has electrolytes and other stuff. It's frequently used by marathon runners, so if you're on the run, something like this might be useful. If you do go for it, the chocolate flavor is my favorite.

Hi Andrew, good video, I think spare socks would be a good idea, you will risk foot sores if you get wet feet, they can also keep your hands warm if you lose your gloves, dust mask and safety spec's I would consider essential. Otherwise a well thought out kit, cheers Major, stay safe, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart UK.

Never use clothes with a military tint in a bugout urban situation. It turns you into a target. Use only civilian clothes . You will seem much more harmless and you will pass more easily. In fact, never wear military-colored clothing in any bugout situation, for the same reason.

That sillcock key (however unfortunately named) is the msot original idea i've heard of in an urban kit for some time! In fact, I'd never heard of that device before.
You've also made an excellent point about wearing clothes that you can sleep, in regardless of conditions, which is an intriguing perspective on dressing for the weather.

Indeed; here in Europe, knipex makes sillcock electric box/emergency release doors combo key that acts like a improvised hex key holder with Philips and flat hex keys included. One of better combos I've seen. Also, some of bicycle multi key wrenches works great as hex adapter Too.

This kit is much more appropriate since most people live in some kind of urban center. I think too much emphasis is placed on "bugging out to the woods." There are certainly circumstances where doing so would be the choice, but there are more readily available resources in most towns and cities and having a kit suited to this scenario would ideal.

I also dont like these EDC bags that are packed so full that they are nearly bursting so that you can survive the zombiecalypse. I really try not doing that with my bug out bag either which is quite hard. And I dont believe at all that the UA-cam streamers that advocate such EDC bags really carry them around every day.
Usually i have enough space left in my EDC backpack for my work laptop AND some groceries when i do some shopping after work. I would say that my 30L backpack (only with the EDC stuff including a small bike repair kit in it) weighs less than 3-4kg which isnt that light but enough to carry it on you all the time so that you can always grab it when needed.
While i find it unrealistic to survive in the "woods" due to lack of skill or other external circumstances (like being in big city) i always have at least a way to make a fire on me and in my backpack some very basic emergency stuff like a small led lamp, a swiss army knife plus a rain poncho. The (really bright orange) poncho i have with me anyways because its used for sudden heavy rain when biking so that i dont need a complete set of rain gear.

Your not wrong. I grew up back and forth between the city and the farm. always hunted. Always camped out. Always been hiking and climbing. Hate to say it. But even with a truck load of gear most city people would not survive the first few weeks out of the system. Without all the modern comforts they would freak out and panic. Once that happens and with rol to enforce the peace. Most won't make it out of the city. And all those 'country people' you've been making fun of for years dont want you either

I was just on a cruise ship. Where a medical emergency occured. The ships Medical staff was tied up with an emergency. So three of us took care of the problem until they were avaible. So a couple of sugestions, a small packet of honey for low blood sugar, and aspirin & mini bottle of hot sauce for a heart attack.

Sir, great kit as usual, Skipper! Trauma kit a beauty. Again, a compact suturing kit can be a lifesaver. 2 or 3 lights of some sort a good idea to enable changing batteries in pitch dark.. I like at least one light with a Morse Code dot-dash button, another light a headlamp with a strobe option. Cartridge flares for the pistol a possibility. My favorite nutrition is organic dried fruit bars, tender jerky, & various nuts. Getting used to high quality sardines as well. A spoon or spork a primary survival tool. Colonel Hackworth generally carried a spoon in a shirt pocket. I have to get one of those Steripen water purifiers. A cell phone is a strong option, except for possible hostile tracking. Compact radio good. Folded paper towels and wipes.

I made up a survival kit to go in an Otter Box type container for carrying in a motorcycle saddle bag. Coupled with an Altoids tin kit to carry on my person I have fire, water and first aid covered with some fishing kit to cover food if I am near water. I also like the tins that flea collars come in for making kits. That ultraviolet device is interesting. 90 seconds to sterilize water from all the pathogens that contaminate water? Beats waiting on iodine pills and boiling. Excellent information, Major. Hope you and the family have a great Thanksgiving. Keep your powder dry.

Pretty solid I think. Much better than most of the wannabe survival guides out there.
My two cents: UV pen is expensive, and does not filter out chemicals. It relies on batteries, and does not remove foriegn materials. A mini sawyer is cheap, and it comes with its own lighweight water bag. I don't think you need so many water methods. A sawyer filter, metal cup for boiling, and iodine gives you 3 methods, in addition to the silcock, and you should have smartwater in the pack already. I prefer potassium permanganate to the iodine but they both do the same thing.
I would add tool gloves, some discussion about fixed blades, and multi tool. cotton bandana, extra socks, advil, duct tape (T-rex, obv), and moleskin.

I used to have an Eddie Bauer expedition grade jacket, but it got stolen a few years back.
But I just found the inner lining, which is a jacket that was the main thermal layer that fastened to the outer gortex shell. I forgot it even existed because it was too hot to use it regularly. Now it's in my kit with a hooded nylon zip up parka. Together, these might be the most versatile combo I've ever had.
I'm so stoked I've been telling everyone. 😂

I ride a motorcycle and I’ve found that the clothing I wear for riding in cold weather would work equally well in a bug out situation. What are your thoughts on this?

I use the same clothes that snow machine riders use . It blocks the wind and keeps me warm no matter what the temp is .

Me too. Down here in the South East U. S. I ride short trips in the winter to keep from having to get it tuned up in the spring. A couple of layers works out pretty well as it is usually a bit warmer during the day as opposed to early morning when I head off to work.

I carry Quik Point's pointy-talkies, have for years. I've only needed to use it once, but my brother is in EMS- he uses his at least monthly.

The world is a very unstable place at the moment, could you do a video on what to carry overseas, that is also TSA-friendly?

      Monocular
Fits easily in a pocket and
      not as much weight around
      your neck. Been using one
      for hunting for years.
      With it tucked away, less
      likely to be confiscated or
"requisitioned " if you're stopped and shook down

Wow, you're up to 181k subscribers now! Well, I'm not surprised. Your videos are among the best. You always provide sensible, useful, and unique information and tips. I've seen so many urban bags that include tents and bushcraft gear. Give me a break. I live in London, and I can tell you, I don't and won't be carrying a ferro rod, etc, in my bug out or get home bag.

I’d love to see you build one of these bags that is UK legal / friendly. We’d have to answer some serious questions from the police if we were stopped and found to be carrying the Leatherman on our person.

What about one of the very small Bear Grylls multi-tools from Gerber? Where can a list of UK carry rules be found? Sounds like things have changed substantially from the days of Arthur Conan Doyle & the "comforting feel of a heavy revolver."
