Pathfinder school is lucky to have you as an instructor, students will learn a lot..
David West from the David West UA-cam channel teaches to use the fresnel lens with the rough side towards the sun. It gathers more light and works better for solar ignition. I use mine that way and it works. You always put out excellent information and I like how you provide all the details necessary to make this work. Thank you Andrew.
Speaking as someone who owns and uses both a Supertool 300 and a Rebar for work, take the Supertool.
Supertool 300 is a beast. Definitely will give you an advantage "in the field" which is nice. Own one, and have abused it. Well recommended.
Also I generally rely on a Swiss Army Knife and a straight full tang spear point blade. Good combo for overall survival. I'm homeless right now, and I'm really glad I got into bushcrafting and survival skills. It's good to know when you find yourself in a tough spot in life.
Spoken by someone who owns only a Rebar, I would take the Rebar. I already got it, don’t be cheering for the other one.
The Leatherman Rebar deserves more love. My favorite multi-tool
In reference to the Leatherman Rebar, it's also available in a version with no blade, so if you're looking at gifting young survivalists a tool that is more safe than others, the Rebar might be what you are looking for!
I could see it for travel but for my God son(10) the multi tool i gave him has a blade. As part of a outdoors slingbag I gave him theres also a Mora bushcraft blk and a folding saw. A cutting tool or tools are a necessary item outdoors. Teach'em saftey young, and carry a first aid kit.
For some reason your post caught my attention. As I pondered your comment, it hit me. I travel a bit for work, not as much as I used to, but enough. Recently on a short trip, I decided to carry on my bag instead of check. Then got pulled aside at security, had to forfeit my SAK Huntsman. Having a multitool that I can carry on legally is ideal, and I've yet to replace that item. I just checked TSA and no blade and scissors smaller than 4" is the only requirements. This will now be a Christmas gift list item- sans the blade. Thank you.

@@chrisgraham9110Sorry about your Huntsman. I took that model knife on a trip a few months ago, and used it quite a bit, but always had some checked baggage. Interesting about the bladeless Rebar which might pass legal muster in many countries, but I don't know if that saw would get through airport and such security checkpoints. The Leatherman Style PS also provides a small package of tools without a blade. I guess it depends on where one is going, but I took a small razor knife on one trip, and figured if I did not have checked luggage I would just safely ditch the blade, replacing it later. I think a pair of EMT shears, available from small though regular size might be a travel option. It will cut cordage, though any food or the other type packages, scrape shavings say on a piece of fatwood, and scrape a ferro rod. Maybe less than ideal but is inexpensive and inoffensive. One of our daughters was using a Wenger AT Clipper, NO blade, as it had scissors etc. She was stopped because the typical file was too pointy! Sheesh. She had carried it around outside the country but I figure someone stopped it because of the shape, then did not just want to pass it. :-( She found a sympathetic airline employee and managed to check it. Victorinox still makes the clipper but not a bladeless model as far as I know so it would have been a very annoying loss. Personally I have carried it too and never gave the smooth fingernail file a thought. I always worried about the little eyeglasse screwdriver they replace the blade with. The flat screwdriver is so small it is pointy. Those low cost EMT shears in a small medkit sound better and better.

Great load out for survival. It's very important include a 14" latin machete or 13" parang and Lifestraw water filter. A CAT torniquete and Israel bondage it's very useful too.

I traded the Bics for Clippers. A hell of a lighter, easy to fill or repair. If you find a transparent one you can see the content. I smoke all kinds of stuff and this is always a survival situation.
Lol yes the flint holder on the Clipper comes in useful for poking and shaping those hand rolled long cigarettes. But seriously I'd say for a non-smoker who's just going to use it in an emergency the Bic is better as they have a lot more gas than in the Clipper. Also the flints on them are much larger (took one apart to find out).

Hello from Oklahoma! Good Video! I went into the woods Friday. It wasn't raining when I started. But I was so glad to have the kit to build a quick shelter from the rain and wind that kicked up. I didn't carry tent stakes for awhile, thinking I will always have time to make some. Boy, was I glad I had 6 tent stakes ready to go, that front moved in quick. It gave me the ability to ride out the quick deluge. Thanks for all You do! God Bless!

Sir, T Y once more, Skipper! You and Ret. Col Douglas MacGregor are 2 similar positive solution achievers. One lesson that I have learned about survival is to concentrate on being calm and not acting precipitously out of anger or fear of failure. Some solution to any dilemma can generally be found through positive attitudes and doing what you can. I personally recommend walking with God at all times, and let help happen if it offers itself. A great Spanish piece of advice goes something like "when the sun shines, open the windows." You don't want to make anything more difficult than it already is. If you just do what you can first, you don't know what good things may follow. But keep your powder dry!

Check out the folding saws, that takes different Sawzall blades.
I use a saws all regularly at work. I've never seen a blade for sale locally that is a good design for a hand saw. They work, but they require more effort. Hence, more calories. I've tried every brand I could find locally at home depot, Lowes, and Walmart. (Currently use mostly Diablo blades)

I've used the rebar at work for years, very light and handy. The only thing I'd say to be careful with is using it to pry heavy things apart, as it's a little light to do that regularly. Thankfully, Leatherman's 25 year warranty rocks

So many UA-camrs make it seem like you MUST have the exact model, color, and style of the equipment they have, or you just won't be one of the cool kids -- or survive. All you have to do is get what you can afford and are able to use so you can enjoy the outdoors.

Last weekend I put together (again) an urban EDC survival kit, I'm in London UK and it's really a get home bag which enables me to stay out in some waste ground, woodland (we have some patches here in the city) or next to a canal if there is civil unrest which isn't improbable right now. It's smaller than this.
It includes
Victorinox Farmer
Leatherman Bond
Vic Ambassador in first aid kit (for scissors and small blade)
First aid kit includes torniquet and Israeli field dressing amongst other items
Swiss Army issue M81 water bottle and aluminium cup
Bear Grylls Zip pyramid stove with a couple of Firedragon fuel gel capsules
Mylar bivvy bag like in this vid but with a couple of 8 hr handwarmers which I'd put inside
Thick plastic survival bag - in the US a heavy duty contractor's bag but in green - which I'd fill with debris to sleep upon
Pouch of emergency food & brew kit, 2000 cal
Dutch Army poncho, paracord, 4 tent pegs.
Spare lighter (plus 2 or 3 on my person); water purification tabs; powerbank; spare flashlight (1 on my person); shemagh; right in the rain notebook & Tombow airpress pen; pack of kleenex; plus some other bits and bobs but that's the essence and it's just for the remote possibility that I have to go to ground for 12-24 hours.

Recently found a Gregory Palisade at a thrift store for $24. It's now my winter pack. My old med. Alice is still loaded with the 10 C's and my satchel with 5 C's. Between the Army Surplus store and thrift stores I've accumulated a lot. 4 decades ago I was homeless a few times winter & summer. I think the world is at a critical point. Just last night I was talking to a lady friend on the phone @ 02:20. And there's this there was a dude just standing at my front door just just looking in. While I was asking him how I may help him and unlocking the door he didn't like what I had in my hand. And beat feet. Sure wanted to get me some. Wisdom prevailed and I watched till he was about 3 blocks away with my bino's. Stay alert people.

Just used the mill bank bag with my Grayl to filter water from a leaf litter mud puddle. Proving a point during a training adventure for a few folks. Included the rigging to hang the mill bank bag over the collection container. I learned so much of these type of thing by watching your videos. Thank you for eventually and inevitably saving lives !

Excellent video, thanks. Not trying to tell you what to do but I’ve found that a simple carpenter pencil works so much better than an ink pen. Especially on the write in the rain paper. A carpenter pencil writes on rocks, writes on tree bark for leaving messages for others. Also the pen ink freezes in cold weather. I will not be getting that rag to wear on my head anytime soon, but I really like the orange cotton t shirt idea.

What about including in basic survival kit 2x Glock17, 1x Norlite USK-G, some glock spare mags, and a dynamic shooting training with some patrolling accessories... pistol and carbine torch, laser aim... ? For instance in a property patrolling / intrusion defensive scenario context. and in a SERE context...
What about improvised cover smoke grenade...
Always love you videos I still use a Garberg original MP600,a Ranger grip 79, a Mora Garberg and a custom horn handle Mora 2000 that I made, the handel is very light weight the way I made it. And I always have a gun. I'm sure you all do too I'll even throw a derringer in an emergency kit just so I have something.

Rangergrip is an outstanding piece of kit, I bought the red version based on your recommendation. Shame it’s not EDC for the UK.
I agree, the Rangergrip's are great, I have the 79, I'm also in the UK so yes, it's a bummer that it's not legal carry. One question I've always wondered, the Pathfinder school opted for the 78, which has a Phillips screwdriver. The 79 is identical except that the corkscrew replaces the Phillips screwdriver. I think potentially the corkscrew is more useful in the woods than the screwdriver, I'd be interested to know why the pathfinder school went with the 78 not the 79.

The black Swiss Army knife has the lock on the wrong side for one hand closing. It’s perfect for left handed people but they are less than 10% of the population. At least my Sentinel does.
I prefer the Bahco because the blade will bend and not break. Just got a Corona that outperforms the Bahco slightly but not sure how bombproof it is yet.
the kephart design is quite similar to the woodlore design popular in the UK

A beautiful thriving City can become a concrete wilderness in a flash of a bomb, which is why I'm going through all your survival videos. You're right about the possibility of World War III starting, for sure in the Middle East. I hear the price of oil is going up to $500 a barrel or was that a gallon.
Al the main tools you need, the best and mopst suitable, are all made in Europe. Bic lighter, Morakniv, Bahco Laplander, Victorinox mt or Swiss Army knives. Swedish Firesteel, Suunto Compass, Swagman Roll and so on..
