I love how his tail goes from between his legs at the beginning, to a flag raised in the air once he has gained some confidence. That says it all. ❤
He got a huge smile towards the end too. Such a sweet boy
I have a GSD that is fearful and reactive of people and dogs, Im going to try this for sure
What a great owner! His dog was completely manageable but he knew he's wasn't living his best life so he got help. Benny is going to to be much happier with confidence.
Such a good video!! I have a fearful dog and was told don’t use a prong collar. After little change I went back to the prong, followed Tom’s approach, and have made tremendous change!! Thank you!
My dog is super friendly but I can tell around other dogs he is very uneasy and submissive to a fault at times. Love more of these videos specifically with confidence around other dogs and playing.
My dog is fearful of strangers inside our house to the point where we have to put him in another room because he is aggressive towards all guests who enter our place. We want him to be able to be comfortable around new people, and not think that he has to constantly guard us.
If you're able to give the dog a job when guests come over, like going to place, crate, or bed, that'll help him build that confidence & learn to be ok. It'll take time, consistency, & accountability but it's possible. Tom has some incredible videos in regards to that
Keep in mind that some dogs genetically are more guardy and protective over their territory and family then others. I have one that has a job and is fulfilled in life but he still does not trust anybody outside of his immediate family at home and select few others. Outside of home he is in general friendly to everybody unless he feels some kind of way about somebody instinctually. He never barks he never makes a sound other than a growl and it is a low grumble that I can barely hear. He's always so stoic and majestic even when he's staying "hey I don't like you get out of my house"So all I'm saying is make sure that you know the difference between the things that are stemming from a lack of fulfillment versus who the dog is in general.
Mine is the same we have to crate him then bring him out on a leash
@@Allenballen88 Do you know what those videos are? He has so many LOL

I believe it's this one or another one

I love your videos Tom! We adopted a 3 year old pit who didn't have much structure or stability throughout the first years of her life. We are her 4th owners. She loves people surprisingly but gets so scared around other dogs. We are working with her on how to become more confident and know how to be chill around other dogs. We have a long way to go but all your videos are giving us some tools and help we need to give her the best life and train us to be the best dog parents.
Thank you for taking the time to put your videos out there. You've been such a huge help!
Excellent video !! Number one cause for reactivity is insecurity and fear. This stage of a pups development is crucial...and how the owners react, determines if the pup will be confident or insecure and fearful....Saying...No.. "its Ok."" rewards them...People talk way too much....and confuse them......Really good video Tom !! .. This will help so many people help their dogs to become confident !.! Gotta add that a fearful insecure dog isn't happy..they dont want to feel that way....Its the owners job to show their dog that they're in charge and their dog doesn't need to worry !! Really good video !!!!
I have a male Dalmatian who turns one next week. He is insecure and fearful of new people and sometime unknown sounds and building confidence has helped a lot so far!
Beautiful dog, cool owner. Incredible expertise Tom. You're a Rockstar in my view and have helped me among many others work through challenges and have incredible four legged best friends. Thank you so very much!!
Wish my gsd had seen you when you were in London. There are no trainers here like you. So many gsd are being euthanized because of reactivity. They are mostly the lockdown pups people decided to purchase and didn't get the training they needed. Its heart breaking. I have spoken with a rescue centre that struggles with the numbers that are coming in needing help. You are awesome Tom just wish we could have one of your centres here in England.
Thanks so much again! My husky Chief has struggled with a lot of insecurity. He isn't 100% confident yet but he is getting better and better everyday! Your videos have helped me so much!
I love watching dogs figure it out! You can see them really thinking through things.
Love seeing a dachshund ❤ I have 2 they are very stubborn babies
Great video!! I have a very fearful dog. I've learned so much since I've gotten her. I agree that structure, confidence building, and encouragement are key. I used to walk on eggshells with her as well as talk to her all the time because I felt she needed to know that she could get through a scary situation. Now I just go on with her like there's no situation and she's not fearful. I do however advocate for her and stay within her tolerance limits. One other thing, I love that the pup in the video totally gave you engagement when you were talking to the owner ❤️. Fantastic.
Great video! I have a primitive breed dog and her stranger danger has been challenging to help her overcome. She is ‘your either in the circle of trust, or you’re not!’ I work on this with her each day, but have not been successful to date.
We just got a rescue dog and she is incredibly scared when people come to the house. She has been here less then a week but need help getting her comfortable with house guests. Will be subscribing to your online videos
I hope Tom wins a chance to work with my Briscoe Butt Schnauzer ( who isn’t a schnauzer 😎). Good luck, Tom!! 🤣
I have a big dog and I don’t think I’ve seen you use prong collar on a lot of small dogs so that was nice to see a dog that small can sometimes need that type of device
I feel this video will help a lot of people. Especially insecure small covid puppy dogs that I see a lot of these issues with. Thank you. ;)
I'm at more or less the other end of the world, I have two Belgian Malinois, and my goal is to build a fair and healthy relationship with them. Your videos help me do that, thank you.
This is great to see the dog be more confident and come into his own!
This is so helpful! Thank you, my dog is 6 months old and terrified of outside and starts screaming like he is being murdered. I’ve been taking it at his pace but hopefully a little pressure will encourage him to explore
Wish I’d seen this and you when I first got my dog. Would have prevented many mistakes and preventing lunging and nipping, hence I don’t let her off . Thanks for all your content it’s superb. So trusting that I can get mine off muzzle
Your videos have helped me tremendously. Right now I am working with a pup who was kennel raised with no play time at all for the 1st 5 months. No he is a wild child when someone is in the room with me. We are working on that, but he isn't doing very well yet.
I have a 2 year old fearful reactive dog. He has been like this since we got him when he was 13 weeks. He is fearful or other dogs and all humans..always alert like he is always on a lookout..really could use a one on one to exactly know the issue and work on it in a correct and effective manner
So freaking cute. This also works on my 100 pound GSD. My girl does amazing on every command but barks out the window at home and the car. She doesn’t bark if we introduce her to the other dog but that’s not always possible. Working hard to correct this behavior but progress has been slow. Hard to correct barking while driving (the dog, not me) but I keep working at it. I’ve been following Tom’s lessons for 3 years since we were gifted our puppy and success has been achieved in every field but this one. While she may sound like Cujo when she’s barking she really loves people and kids and babies especially and she likes most dogs. I just need her to stop the barking out the widow. I can’t tell you how many lace curtains and curtain rods I’ve replaced. She is the literal bull in the china shop!
I so appreciate you had other people come in and walk her around! One of the things I wish I could have with a trainer in my area, but I haven't found one that can help with our situation. We have 2 fearful under socialized dogs... Our female is much easier. She will bark at first (which we correct and she is getting better), but all it takes is a few sniffs and she's good. She doesn't nip or get aggressive, thankfully. Our male on the other hand, he will nip! Ugh. He's been more difficult to work with from the moment we brought them home. We can take him on walks (with a muzzle) now and have gotten him to the point where he isn't barking at every single person or dog (but is still nervous and on alert and can't relax). Both of them are still quite fearful. Especially when people come over and we usually have to put them in their crates (to which they bark) or introduce one at a time. They do well with people AFTER they have had a chance to warm up to them and get comfortable... But that's only in an intimate setting and doesn't translate to other strangers and dogs. I'd love to reach a point where we don't have to spend 20+ minutes acclimating them to guests or have the muzzle on our male during walks/when he's finally comfortable with guests. Slowly but surely we will get there, I'm hopeful!
Big love from Turkey
Great swimming pool analogy, I'm gonna use that for my next group of clients 👌, I love the method you use and telling people not one method will work for all dogs, hope to meet yall soon 🙏
Great video. I love that you worked with a small dog. I found it interesting that when you called Benny, as he was trotting towards you, he did a body shake to relax himself. Hopefully Benny's owner left that ill fitting harness behind when they went home.
I will have to try that collar to help my lab who pulls on walks!
Benny is super cute! 🥰 Kudos to his owner for helping him gain confidence. 👍☺️
I’m a dog trainer and I enjoy watching your videos to learn more, I have a bully at home I got her when she was 8 months and she is reactive, I’m working with her but the issue is that nobody want to help me work with her because they are scared of her unfortunately
Love the pointers! Thanks! Very much needed for my fearful reactive protective 110lb Rottweiler. 🐕🦺🥰
Omg!! This right here!! I have a 3 year old mini long haired daschund and she is that same reactive dog on this video!😂
These are my favourite type of videos I’d love to see more of this please!
The transformation of this fearful little dog is amazing.
My dog is exactly the same breed and issues. I’ve been needing this kind of guidance!
Can't wait to see this in the membership club ❤
Our dog is reactive to every dog walking in the neighborhood!! He’s a big boy and having zero knowledge on the breed (working dog) cur mix..• and seeing…. Such a cute puppy!! Being a first time dog owner I probably wasn’t the best suit to properly guide him… I know I’m the one whom mega needs guided!! We attempted a trainer/ paid for an e collar…etc.. unfortunately I never was able to inch a hot dog off the side of our counter without him snacking && also he hasn’t been given freedom in the house ( COz there’s tummy stuff in trash cans or he’s just bored so he’ll Jack anything up!! Umbilical cord training z& the struggle is more than real!!
Your videos are great! You’re amazing z& may you and yours be so blessed with the best! WOof
Maybe there is hope after all!
I gave up on helping my fearful, reactive, biting dog after trying so many different things. Adopted him from a shelter 9 years ago. Bought the slip leash - just came in.
Loved watching Benny’s change in real time.
I was just yesterday asked to explain to a client exactly how pushing a fearful dog into success leads to confidence, if you do it right. There is so much FEEL in it, it's very hard to put into words. But this is a beautiful explanation and demonstration. I will send a link to her and to my 1,000 Quora followers.
My most recent personal dog was the most fear-aggressive mess I ever saw. Surrendered after almost four years of positive-only training, his own people couldn't put a hand on him, couldn't walk him on a leash. Two and a-half years of structure and appropriate challenge and he's easy-going, confident and happy. Two-three miles a day off-leash with perfect recall and he has a whole new group of human friends he enjoys meeting and even being touched by.
My gsd is now twelve months and yes in tact. We live in a house but share it with another family that have a full grown poodle. They refuse to keep him on a leash and he’s run up and attacked my dog three times now. These encounters have mad things very difficult for us. I don’t think at this point a meeting between the two is a good idea but I’d love for my rowdy to be more calm around this dog. Right now it’s a lot of careful handling and preparation.
This is so helpful. Have a fear reactive gsd mal mix. With your content we learned how to use a prong collar to help her get over her fear. She is now so much better with her reactivity. We are also using a lot of engagement work with her to get her mind off the other dog using food and food games. It is so helpful with her to just have her stop fixating on the other dog.
Well done, Tom! You are a master at dog training. 😊
Thank you, Tom! I am making real progress using your videos. Thanks so much!
Good boy Benny!! ❤
This is the cutest dog I have seen ❤😂
I would love to work with you! We just rescued a 9 month old terrier pup from East Valley Animal Shelter in los Angeles and he’s fearful of everything! Plus he’s been snapping at my husband ! We need to help this little guy! Thanx man:)
Working on this with my dog too, slow going but here's hoping!
Always love your approach. So many times your videos remind me of my Gigi.
If I could get my German Shepherd over her anxiety and fear both of our lives would be better. Great video.
My thoughts exaclty! :/
I have 2.5 yesrs old 2 mini doxins. One of them is getting worse barking , lunging toward people who is on electric scooter, running, coming out from door suddently or with big noise. I watched your videos and learned a lot. Even though he is still not having confidence to behave which is my fault. I'm still being patient but I'm also looking for Tom every corners that you might be there for help us on our walk!!! Thank you for all great videos!
Thank you for this video, my 10 month old is exactly the same at Bennie, going to practise this today.
I always watch your short reels when I'm on the go. Nice and so helpful to watch your longer format videos. Thanks Tom.
Im using your content as well as mentoring a great teacher here in canada and taking a course love your knowledge and experience as a dog trainer hoping to bring the same to clients here in canada great stuff
Benny did a great job and such a great turn around.
It shows time and time again that positive reinforcement training can help but not with every dog and in every situation.
Go Benny! Thank you Tom for these great videos that break down behaviors and walk through how to work with them. Your analogies are always super helpful!
Love your videos! We are in the UK 😢rescued a 10 month old Pomsky who had never been walked due to her reactivity who reacts to birds, people, cats, bikes scooters…. Basically anything that moves! After watching your videos she now does not chase cars which is a huge positive as it was so dangerous!
We are struggling with her reaction towards dogs the most, even with a prong she lunges barks and foams at the mouth and spins 😢
would be great to walk both my Pomsky dogs together some day 🤞 and visit public places again.
Got to keep pushing forward and continue to watch your videos everyday!! Thank you for sharing your videos!
This is another great video for some owners that struggling with their fearful dog. Thank you Tom and Team.
Just adopted a 5mo Pyrenees mix that has never been inside before. She’s reactive to dogs outside and reactive to people and dogs inside. She also has anxiety when not outside hoping building her confidence and building some structure helps 🤞
I would love to see one where you work with a confident dog but has fear reactiveness towards other dogs. I’m having a hard time working with my service dog after an attack. He does great in his vest, but when he’s not he’s a mess. I can’t find the mental barrier to break it down and work through it.
Benny is the cutest. OMG! More videos about confidence building please!
Thank you for all your great videos. Have. Great Dane working with him on him not reacting to other dogs. Definitely getting better but still not 100% great.
My dog has been very fearful and has been showing reactivity on walks, at our neighbors, anything she doesn’t know. Just purchased the Herm Sprenger you’ve continuously recommended, seen a big difference already. I am still working on her, but you’ve convinced and shown me how successful one can be by staying consistent and showing that accountability. A trainer told me she was on the verge of not being able to be helped at all and your videos have given me tools that have proven them otherwise. Thank you for all you do for the community and for showing you truthfully care for these dogs. ❤️🥹
I love watching your videos. They are so helpful.
Love this!
This video was very helpful because my two-year old Golden Retriever has struggled with fearful reactivity and I switched to the recommended prong collar and it made a big difference.
love every video you have made its helped me so much at home with my dog. especially the fearful aspects, we have come a long way, thanks Tom! we still have some issues but its all a learning process
What a transformation! Good job Benny!
I’m so glad I found your channel. Awesome video!
wooo thank you for training a dachshund sooo much :))) specially resource guardyy / fearful
Thanks for the awesome video Tom and your team. Love how you involve everyone in your videos, from owners to trainers. Your explanations comparing to human life is just perfect, and makes sense to the owners, keep up the great work
Thanks so much. What a great team you have to help so many-most appreciated!!
That is awesome! Love seeing this dog go from everything is so scary to overcoming it.
Nicely done! ❤
Very good video . I am learning so much with my dog from watching your videos
Its so awesome to see the simple but practical steps you use to teach the owner and dog to work through the issues.
Great job!
I love your videos! They are helping me to become a better trainer. Thank you for sharing them!!
Great information as always, Tom! It was interesting to see the progress made, and really highlighted remaining relaxed/consistent and being the leader. As the video progressed I could see such a difference in happiness of the dog too, which was really interesting. It’s like “oh, thank goodness - someone e else is in charge so I can drop my energy level down some notches!”
Amazing video as always!
Love your videos! Thank you
Great video, Tom! Loved watching Benny’s transformation.
My dog shows a lot of fearful behaviour as well. So thankful for these tips!
Amazing
Your videos are very helpful. Thank you for all the work you do putting the videos together.
Love watching this channel
Great video!
Great vid
Thanks for another great video. The way you explain each step of the process is so helpful. The written cues highlight the most important parts, add to understanding and help the memory.
This was great, thank you! My pet hoarded BC rescue had never seen the light of day until he was 10 months old. He is fearfully reactive. We have had him for about 9 months. Progress has been a slow road but your videos sure help!
So helpful, thank you!
Thank you!
Great work
Great Video. Thx
Great tips and advice.
Been doing lots of work with my fearful reactive dog... definitely lots of progress thanks to you guys!! But a long road ahead!! Thanks for all the tips!!
