His arrangements are different from most fingerstyle guitarist. Nothing flashy. Not overdoing it with all the slaps and show. He simply takes a song, breaks it down in all it elements, and transfers it to the acoustic guitar. He pays attention to the littlest detail which makes the song sound full and easy to listen to. Such a fantastic guitarist and arranger. Definitely one of the best imo.
I've been playing guitar since I was 11. I'm 24 now. Stopped playing 2 years ago from a car accident. Broke my wrist & popped my right collar bone. This motivated me to play again!! Thank you!! 🙏🙏
I had a similar experience learning to start playing at 10 and then breaking my wrist at 12. Took two years and two surgeries to recover and sent me on a very long hiatus even wanting to ever play again. I finally took up playing again at 24. I'm 64 now and play decent-like, but I waited too long. IMHO. All I can say is this... if it's your passion, keep at it. It was hard to return after 12 years.
No frenetic tapping. No excessive harmonic slaps. Just a nice, steady, understated groove that captures the essence of the song. The best fingerstyle guitarist I have heard.

What a great recommend by the YT algorithm. I just got blown away. I'm not blown away by the complexity, or the absolute perfection of his playing. I'm blown away by the feeling. Kent has SOUL. He didn't play Purple Rain, he felt it...and he made me feel it too. Having talent is one thing...and there's tons of talent in the guitar world. Kent has that by the bucket loads, but he's got soul. You can't teach soul. Well done Kent, I hope to hear more soul from you soon.
I've got to admit that I love these instrumental covers. Naudo, Tommy Emmanuel, PedroJavier, John Jorgson, Alexander Misko and Kent Nishimura have brought alive these classic hits to a generation lost in EDM, Pop culture, DJ and electronic music. What these musicians do with 6 strings, 21 frets and 10 fingers is so much more enjoyable and soulful than new age synthetic music. Love it simple, love it plain, love it when it's from the heart.
Prince Rodgers Nelson will looking down and applauding. I'm a massive prince fan and have listened to literally 100s of purple rain renditions. This one stands head and shoulders above anything. What talent.
He is truly a genius. He seems to absolutely play the song in al its essence. Dreaming away you hear al the instruments and even almost hear Prince sing. Hoohoohoo-hoo!
The thing I like about Kent is no matter what he does, everything just 'swings'. There's no difference in his fretting, plucking or strumming a string than a human voice. It's truly profound. This man has a deep singing tone in his playing always. It's magic and something unique. Thank you Kent!
It brings tears to my eyes watching and listening to this as i remember Prince, i'm sure he is smiling while listening to this wherever he is... please don't ever stop playing like this...
Just discovered this young genius. Not a musician so can't contribute anything intelligent to the discussion about technique, but there is so much beauty and emotion in this that it brings me to tears. And I love that he is so into it!
The voicing choices you make are incredible. It's just raw talent... it's impressive to anyone who enjoys music, and awe-inspiring for any musicians who KNOW just how difficult it is to rearrange a song entirely like this. From the ground up, you've captured all parts... and Prince would most definitely be smiling from ear to ear. Well done, sir.
But this song actually isn't rearranged, nor does it have his own voicings. It's all like the original, from beginning to end. Not saying it's not amazing though.
@@connyberg5665 - no, I meant voicings. Sure the progression of the song, and the melody lines and harmonies and such are the same, but how he chooses to capture the chords, where he applies structured chords versus his lead lines... i.e. how he chooses to layer the song together with the ONE instrument he's playing - that's voicing. And are you arguing that he didn't have to 'rearrange' anything to play this song? We're talking about arranging a full band song of multiple instruments down to just this gentleman's guitar. So we can agree to disagree if you semantically think you're right, but at least the both of us can agree that it's amazing.

wow this kid has got it going on. bass lines, drum rhythms, melodies, horn sections etc. its like you dont miss a thing from the real song even though there is only 2 hands.
This arrangement is pure genius. Getting the melody, rhythm and percussion all from one instrument simultaneously - essentially playing three parts at the same time - and absolutely nailing the spirit of the song so well is deserving of high praise. I'm trying to watch your fingers to even understand how you're doing it, and it just looks like magic, as I can hear lines that I can't directly see you playing. I also loved that you even captured the singing harmonies at 1:57-ish. Oh, that was just perfect and got me smiling. :D
That bend had me almost crippled for life. This inspired me to no end, what an absolutely stunning arrangement. The best thing about this is how entangled you are with the song you play, it's is fantastic to see.
