That would not have made a diffrence to the actual video tbh. But your right them and the battanians aresupposed to be great at throwing, almost as good as my teamates in league of legends.
Sturgian Veteran Warriors are the best, imo. In close quarters combat, two of the most important things are (1) to not get your weapon stuck on allied troops so you can actually perform an effective, full damage swing, and (2) to swing fast enough to get your shield up to block immediately afterwards. A third point is (3) that axes get a bonus against enemy shields. Sturgian Vets' axe is the best melee tool for these three reasons. They can't be outranged either because, like you said, they run faster than the other units. A third point overlooked imo is that the Sturgian javelins are *way* more effective than spears against cavalry right now. It also helps soften up enemy melee troops before entering melee range. Basically: 1) They have the best melee weapon for melee clashes. 2) They have some of the best armor. 3) Their javelin is actually useful against cavalry and also makes the melee clashes easier. 4) You can't out-range them with swords because they'll close the distance or just javelin you.

They sure do. They're also awesome in battle. Even if they're a little weaker statistically, the versatility of having a sword, spear, and javelins is very nice.

You can swing an axe fast but it is unbalanced. This is the momentum that creates its power. A sword can be very deadly against an armored opponent if one manages to find the right gap or use half-swording correctly, which is not a feature in this game.
Axes have quite a lot of blunt force but while a sword can thrust, how effective was the edge of the axe ? Later axes have a spike or a hammer at the back side to deal with armour
Duke of Lorraine I only say you... if you had to receive a direct hit at the armor while you wearing it, for example plate armor, even plate armor. What would you prefer? A direct hit from a sword or an axe ? I can say that I wound prefer the sword.
What about Triarii? They have 200 weapon skills, and presumably similar armor to the Legionaries. Granted they can't be recruited normally, you can still get them through prisoner recruitment by upgrading Hastati & Principes.
@@Spider-Too-Too you need to go to war with the minor faction "Legion of the Betrayed", go fight any of their 4 armies, and you'll get some hastati/principe prinsoners that can be recruited. You can also get Triarii prisoners, but they can't be recruited at the moment due to the same bug that prevents all tier5 troops from being recruited. Best to be done when the faction isn't part of a kingdom so you don't have to go to war with said kingdom.
Man I do love myself some Triarii. I fix the recruitment for myself with console by doing this - I recruit imperial recruits, then normally level them untill level 4, and then I disband level 4 troops and add myself some Hastati lvl 1 via console with 1:1 exchange rate. IMO this is kinda balanced, since it takes a long time to lvl them up, plus Hastati are weak and can die easily, thus nullifying the progress. Currently I only have 22 Triarii done this way in like 8 hours so definitely not OP.
Gotta say that I have found the Britannia wildlings are pretty ridiculous as an infantry front line. The death they deal with their throwing weapons is immense. They also spawn with a shield, 1h, and a spear as a bonus. Can easily murder an equally matched unit in the field with minimal casualties. A great core for everything you do.
Wildlings mixed with fian champions is ludicrous. The amount of death dealt to the enemy before they get to my lines is insane. When they get to my lines their morale is so depleted they barely last 20 seconds. When they break send in the cav to deal even more casualties.
I just go hog wild with as many Trained Spearmen and Fian Champs (+forest bandits for cute wolf hats to bolster morale) as I can get, and a handful of falx/wildling/skirmishers for flanking. I'm a fashion-slut so I can't say no to those sweet gold-trimmed shields, sorry Wildlings. Running around hucking spears with the boys while their army gets machine gunned rarely gets old. They made throwing weapons so goddamn satisfying to use. Watching your godlen-clad archers beat the everloving crap out of infantry in single combat is also pretty top-tier.

I feel like you're underestimating the strength of having javelins, javelins are extremely strong in this game. Ranged weapons in general are extremely strong in fact. Also I wouldn't put too much into the skills at this point as they aren't correct yet.
As you say, the khuzait darkhans are amazing on paper, but they always die quite easily even against lower tier infantry, as you can see in 6:30. They need constant replacement, and in my experience fare worse in a shield wall than in an offensive formstion.
It seems like the Empire is pretty good at everything. They have among the best shielded infantry, among the best archers, among the best cavalry and good horse archers. What's the empire weakness on the battlefield?
jack of all trades, master of none. All their units are good but they are surpased by better units in specific ares from other factions. For example, the cataphract is one of the most armored cavalry unit, but the aserai faris are faster and have the same, if not betther armor. Same can be said in the case of bucelaries vs mamluks or heavy khuzaik horse archers. You can find similar comparisons with all imperial units... legionaries are awesome, but they lack javelins unlike almost all other heavy infantry units in the game
I was wondering if you were still planning a video on how using the cavalry. I know you mentioned it in another video and I definitely looking forward to it because mine keeps getting shredded lol. Love your videos!
The Two handed bill the Vlandian Sergeant spawns with makes them the best IMO. Long spears, and a short bill plus tons of armor.. Makes them amazing defensive/offensive units.
I think you could have included the sturgian shock troops because their armor has the best weight to defense ratio. They have either a large round shield or a fortified kite shield sometimes but most of all, they wield a warrazor. They may not survive a long shield wall battle because their total armor value isnt very high, and their full potential isn't with one handed weapon, but their large shields, their fast movement speed and their long polearms make them great at closing in with enemy archers.
For ppl who want custom troops u can add it in spcccharacter and spccitem for item list be like me buff aserai a little and change the skirmisher to using jereed(they died as easily as before but atleast do a bit more dmg)
This goes verbatim to another guide I have seen, but idk man. I really value a better polearm and ranged option. my top: the archer is a noble warrior from Batan, just like the arrows they are out of competition, but the Wlandian crossbowmen are more versatile, if the ammunition runs out they can be put on the shield wall and sent to attack, so they become the strongest infantry in the game. Infantry - a legionnaire or a vulgar bearer / Mamluk the guard of the palace (for the defense of the castle, if not to put them under archers), cavalry - everything is good in its own way, except that the sturges have the weakest cavalry. horse archers - bukellaria and only they. You should mix the mods Unit stat fixes with Noble troops. Really balances and fleshes out all the factions giving you more options for unit types up to tier 7
I prefer the sturgians and the battanians by the time the enemy infantry arrives pelted with arrows those who have survived with low morale will surely loose their nerve when the javelins start flying.
@@gaetantreib4163 Yeah just the battanian archers ain't easy to come by until you can farm forest bandits and up them to fians. The palatine guard is much more accessible and they work better with shielded javelin infantry like the battanian and sturgian ones. Sure if you already have 200 fian champions they do all the killing and you only need meat in front of them, but every other archer leaves some shielded troops on the field that needs clean up. I also suspect that they are either going to nerf archers as a whole or change the forest bandit progression into fians into something else. In either case you will need more damaging infantry to finish battles.
Battanian Wildlings are skirmishers, not front line fighters. atm, skirmishers are terrible until you unlock a specific leadership perk, but that just note that they arent meant to be the bread and butter of your forces
Why veteran warrior over shock troop? Latter are more versatile (long and short weapon), and can actually deal with cavalry quite well with that long billhook.
Shock Troops are less armored and die to archers quite easily since they also have smaller shields sometimes. Veteran Warriors are your bulky shield wall, Shock Troops are mixed in there to kill other infantry and cavalry but they are never your main force.
The best shielded infantry is Vlandian Sharpshooter, with their enormous pavise(560 hp), crossbow(100dmg,100accuracy), armor rating of 26h-32b-31a-29l, 130 1handed, 130 athletics. They are ranged too, so they're easy to train en masse.
I would give this to the Imperial Legionary, only because upgrading your Vlandian troops to Sergeants means giving up the biggest advantage Vlandians have: They can upgrade their standard infantry into heavy cavalry!
The fact that once you put the Realistic Battle Mod or the Shield Does Something mod, most of the high tier armored units are just untouchable by those blades. Cut damage won't do shit. But blunt yes.
The best ifantry in the game to me are the ones with shield, sword, anti cav weapon and javelins. so much dmg done before legionaires get in range plus u can outmanouver them and hit them again with more javelins because armor makes them slow. in a siege they are probably a more favourite.
so you simply take simpirial infantry for a shieldwall and then slap a bunch off battanian fian champions behind it (if you feel like grinding leadership or relation with settlements)
I really miss the batanian trained spearmen. And maybe testing units against their other counterparts in the multiplayer simulation room. Comparing the storm troops with the vlandian trained infantry. And triari and legionary.
Aren’t Sturgian shock soldiers better? Or at least more comparable with legionaries and sergeants? They have long spear, big round shield and the axe. The beauty of the axe is you destroy shields quickly.
Sturgians will be much more powerful after patch 1.3 - every tier trop will sport round shields and they will have their stats adjusted correctly with increased throwing on the vets
@@itzaarcher5942 what I observe it is automatic my infantry start switchin to spears when only cavalery is close to them when enemy infantry is stil around them they will not switch.
Sorry but I would argue that the empire crossbowman is by far the best shield infantry unit. They get ranged, piercing power, a sword and shield and good armor. It's so versatile
I can believe the time spent doing these vids must be huge but I thankyou ESO, Im going to switch now to Val Sgt just because im terrified of horse charging my troops.
The stats in the game aren't all correct too. If you test, shock troopers deal more dmg overall. Also, Veteran warriors are skirmirshers and the dont shoot in a shield wall or deal with cav very well. Shocktroops are best
@@bmartins6018 Shocktroops have worse stats and armor and they also lose the javelins which inflict heavy casualties right before the enemy clash into the shield wall. You also shouldn't be using infantry to counter Cav. You should use either bowmen or use your own Cav to fight their Cav.
Khuzait is arguably the strongest faction in game right now. Those Darkhans and Mounted Archers are unstoppable. Plus, they keep conquering cities like no other. If you are Khuzait then you ll be fine but if not.. well good luck with chasing their horses through the whole battlefield.
@@gbogdan3528 Im my opinion Triarii and Veteran Brotvas with javelins are the best infantry units. Their stats are amazing in both onehand, polearm and throwing with great athleticism on top of that. And they shields along with both spears and javelins. I don't think any other units compare to them really.
I'd love to see a comparison with 500 imperial elite infantry vs. 500 Triarii and Brotvas. I'm pretty sure the latter would win, but maybe the imperial armour will make a difference.
Spear at the moment aren't all that good. Closing distance is too easy, as ai has difficulty aiming with spears. Also, your own ally troops interupt spears by simply standing behind you.
@@MrCurbinator It saddens me since historically, spears were the dominant weapons of these times (late antiquity to early medieval). I personally use spears for aesthetics, but the cataphract mace absolutely slays everything in the game due to high handling and armour penetration.
jaelee1996 right? It also makes mastering Sturgia basically impossible. Sturgia uses VC tactics. You make a scrum with heavily armored spearmen, then send your more atk oriented infantry to buzzsaw the flank. Calvary are only for route and counter charge (except against Battania, everyone charges first thing there)
You should always start with the “last place” and finish strong with the best one.. it gives away the fun !

ESO. SO GLAD U HAVE TURNED THIS INTO A SKYRIM LIKE SERIES. WATCHING YOU DO CAMPAIGNS AND THEN TIP VIDEOS. KEEP THEM COMING TILL ES6 comes out.
I prefer the sturgians and the battanians by the time the enemy infantry arrives pelted with arrows those who have survived with low morale will surely loose their nerve when the javelins start flying.
Use vlandian and imperial infantrie with batanian archer and you are invincible.
Isnt this a direct copy paste from community guide ‘troop tier list and analysis’? Or are you by any chance the author of that guide?
@@KnyteMayr fair enough. I'm using mixed footmen composed of legionnaries, shock troops and ulfhednars, works quite well.
@@villemalila7496 yeah I'm using legionaries and shock troops, pretty good combo
A legionaries number one weakness is a Battanian falxman running at him hooping and hollaring as he slashes through their armor.
One question, did you test Sturgian shock troops?
Yes, less armor and die faster to archers. They have more utility tho overall in the current state of the game vets are better
Love u eso keep up the good vids man
The best shielded infantry is Vlandian Sharpshooter, with their enormous pavise(560 hp), crossbow(100dmg,100accuracy), armor rating of 26h-32b-31a-29l, 130 1handed, 130 athletics. They are ranged too, so they're easy to train en masse.
What about the price ranges between these units and the upgrade ability? Maybe the Aserai are quicker to obtain?
Currently its all the same cost per tier, it may change in the future tho
I wouldn't suggest going for infantry units at all when playing Aserai. Their cavalry is where it's at.
@@paulatreides3214 best thing, avoid these buggers x)
@@platoonmexx9278 I don't know, been enjoying my Aserai campaign so far. Then again, maybe I'm just a masochist.
@@paulatreides3214 the horsearchers are nice but the rest just Drops too quickly in my campagnes ^^
Why haven't you mentiooned the Battanian oathsworn (or veteran spearman)?
In my opinion, they do a better job as "shield infantry" than the wildlings
Great content, waiting on the rest
I would give this to the Imperial Legionary, only because upgrading your Vlandian troops to Sergeants means giving up the biggest advantage Vlandians have: They can upgrade their standard infantry into heavy cavalry!
Nice job, goin to hire only sergeants and imperial infantry
The fact that once you put the Realistic Battle Mod or the Shield Does Something mod, most of the high tier armored units are just untouchable by those blades. Cut damage won't do shit. But blunt yes.
I like mixing Legionnaires with Styrgian Ulfhanders and Veteran warriors with Fian/Boar Champions as my main ranged line
Gotta love that equpment
Why didn't you compare the Battanian Oathsworn/Trained Spearman? instead of Wildling? Curious about that..
thank you for this info
Every time you say Valadian Sergeant a little kitten dies.
Great video battle brother!
I was just watching your oblivion stream from w years ago 😂😂😂
That's so cool, literally my favourite childhood game. A friend of mine is remastering it in a mod
ESO my Chile’s hood games were Skyrim and oblivion
Sturgians will be much more powerful after patch 1.3 - every tier trop will sport round shields and they will have their stats adjusted correctly with increased throwing on the vets
Why is it that alpha bannerlord so much more beautiful than current bannerlord, this is amazingly beautiful
Great vid I wish I could play bannerlord but I’m a console player 😢
It'll prob come to consol one day hang in there
It's a really good game bro I love it
how you can switch weapons at your soldiers? is there a command or they pick it automaticaly?
Can someone please answer his question aha, I think it’s automatic but I was hoping there was a button
@@itzaarcher5942 what I observe it is automatic my infantry start switchin to spears when only cavalery is close to them when enemy infantry is stil around them they will not switch.
Zylvar archers switch to sword if you tell them to hold fire
What mode were you using for the colors on your shield
Sorry but I would argue that the empire crossbowman is by far the best shield infantry unit. They get ranged, piercing power, a sword and shield and good armor. It's so versatile
Great work
good work. keep going
I can believe the time spent doing these vids must be huge but I thankyou ESO, Im going to switch now to Val Sgt just because im terrified of horse charging my troops.
Wait, sturgian veteran warrios? What about the shock troopers?
I guess he counted it as a non-shield base troops because they use a long polearm
@@hi3988 they still have the shield, and a spear that should protect against cavalry, so he screwed up leaving them out
The stats in the game aren't all correct too.
They don't have lower stats, they are displayed incorrectly in pre 1.3. They show correctly in 1.3beta.
Khuzait is arguably the strongest faction in game right now. Those Darkhans and Mounted Archers are unstoppable. Plus, they keep conquering cities like no other. If you are Khuzait then you ll be fine but if not.. well good luck with chasing their horses through the whole battlefield.
How do the soldiers change from sword to spear when in fighting? For example i want them to use spear when they are using shield wall.
Vladian Sargent is the best because they're the sexiest. Look at that cloak!
This got changed the sturgian veteran warrior is the best infantry now they now have better javelins and better axe better armor and a spear .
If you based the video on unit stats, the video is then wrong because the devs said unit stats aren't showing properly.
What about special infantry? Such as Triarii?
And Skolder Veteran Brotva (the ones with javelins - not throwing axes)
@@SimonAstrupDK I was thinking the same, these 2 units are very strong actually.
Can you please re-do this list at some point? The Aserai have a much better shield now.
@9:22 when you're charging an imperial shieldwall and realize you're fucked
thank god the legionaries have the best armor I invested so much money into getting like 100 of them
When will you finish the Skyrim civil war questline??
The whole game desperately needs a spear/side weapon switch order
Spear at the moment aren't all that good. Closing distance is too easy, as ai has difficulty aiming with spears. Also, your own ally troops interupt spears by simply standing behind you.
@@jaelee1996 god they really messed up something that was solid
@@MrCurbinator It saddens me since historically, spears were the dominant weapons of these times (late antiquity to early medieval). I personally use spears for aesthetics, but the cataphract mace absolutely slays everything in the game due to high handling and armour penetration.
jaelee1996 right? It also makes mastering Sturgia basically impossible. Sturgia uses VC tactics. You make a scrum with heavily armored spearmen, then send your more atk oriented infantry to buzzsaw the flank. Calvary are only for route and counter charge (except against Battania, everyone charges first thing there)
Vlandians need a nicer helmet, looks like a bucket with eye holes!
Ikr hahaha
But realistic
im amazed khuzait got as high as it did being they are all about cavalry
you didnt mention the Battanian Oathsworn ( trained spearman) wich are probably better than the Wildling
