@Daniel Rodriguez "every marine can proficiently shoot a rifle", not the same as being a rifleman, for which there is a very specific and massively important MOS.
Every anything isn’t always something not matter what your referring to in life. It’s about the individual. Every concealed carrier doesn’t train to the point of knowing how to use his weapon under pressure and to a point that you would call him/her/they an expert. I had about 5 MOS’s in the Marines from 2005-2009. No matter what my MOS on any given year, that didn’t stop me from shooting expert at the range and during becoming a rifle coach on Paris Island. I saw many that could not handle the weapon well but that’s in no way because the training wasn’t there. At least during my time, nothing was given to you. If we were voluntold to eat dirt we ate dirt and said ey sir after. It was always up to the person in the end how dedicated, motivated they wanted to be. So while you aren’t wrong, it’s about the person not the Marines themselves. We were for sure trained and offered options to become elite at what we did.
You dont have to show up with the biggest weapons systems, the largest pieces of armor - you dont have to, you just NEED to know how to use the tools that you have - The most truest and best statement I have EVER heard.
Everybody is a rifleman in the Marine Corp. They really stress marksmanship. When I was in boot camp in 1968 I was at the firing range in the prone position with a M-14 firing I think at the 300 yard line. All of a sudden a range instructor raps me hard with the front edge of his binoculars and screamed in my ear that I wasn't concentrating. After that my firing really improved. I thought I was concentrating but I really wasn't. To this day I value that lesson. I wish I could go back thru that training again. Once a Marine always a Marine. Semper Fi
Growing up as a slavic child in a family of gun lovers and hunters the only thing i was afraid of when shooting guns was that my dad would laugh at me for not being strong enough to cock back a revolver or a rifle
