  • At last we have an Instant Pot available for the U.K. market that has a canning facility,
It may be small but it is powerful. Will hold 4 1 pint jars perfect for all those small canning projects.
    Available from here uk.instantbran...
Later this week I will be putting it through its paces so watch out for those videos.

Beware : no precise temperature reading = total incapacity to be sure you hit needed temps to avoid getting sick, or even dying, from good old canned botulism...
The Instant Pot Max is the only model announced to 15 psi theoretically able to hit 250°F. In real life its maximum temp is 244°F at 5000 feet of altitude, so it should do closer to 250° getting to sea level, and that's awesome. But no one knows how hot the Pro Plus can really get, it takes 15 psi to be able to hit 250F but it doesn't mean its heating system can get that high, there's no temperature prob and so no reading neither, also there's no altitude modifier to fine adjust its behavior.
Also Instant Pro is notorious for producing very unequal products, from a model to an other you can get great or poor results, sometimes even within the same model line but from different years. So there's no way we can say "IP Max was great for canning, so Pro Plus likely should be too".
It may work, it may not, no one can know and Instant pot offers nothing in this product to be sure.
The only way to be 100% safe with this pot is to boil 10mn before eating any can in order to destruct eventual botulic toxin.

I'm very tempted with this. The idea of just canning a few at a time would be awesome. Especially for just cooking a bit more and caning it. Do you worry about recipes when pressure canning soups or stews? Or just do it all? I tend to can with pints anyway, I think I have over 200 jars now! Taken a while to build that up!

I don’t tend to worry about recipes if I am cooking extra casseroles soups etc with a view to canning some then I remove the extra beforeI add thickener I still can for the recommended time , tomorrow I am cooking Chili con carne for dinner but I will double up the recipe and can the extra , providing everything is heated through properly which is just common sense then I don’t see a problem

@@asmallholdinginwales I always do just a bit too much stew! So be good to can them up as I go. I did a lousiana creole type stew yesterday and there's probably two pints worth left there. Be great to collect them up and have some extra meals. Obviously not worth running my bigger canner with it though!

When we're talking about pressure canning, how many degrees Celsius or PSI pressure can the device work and for how long?

The manufacturer say between 11 and 15 psi time would depend on what you are canning

I'm in USA, added the Carey electric pressure cooker/CANNER to my tool box . 9.5 qt, ❤ it.
Small batches are great, 5 pints or 4 qt (WIDE-MOUTH only)>>it is a 1/2" short for the regular mouth qt jars.
Did 5 pints of lentils/black beans, while stove top canner is on 2nd run of beef mince & lentils/black beans (14 qts total).😊
I have canned: pork loin & pork butt, chuck roast, sirloin, freezer meatballs(store), lamb roast, breakfast sausage. 😊

Looks very interesting. Do you use Weck jars? I'm just wondering if I could fit 3 of the 580ml Weck mold jars in at one go. Thanks

No I only use the jars with two part lids, the jar height is 13cm if that’s any help

Nice video, I've just subscribed. Just got my Pro Plus but I'm interested in your bigger pot. What psi does the bigger pot achieve?

Thanks for the sub! I have been told it’s 15psi I have just uploaded a video on it

15 psi of pressure allows to hit 250F (at see level) but having a 15 psi cooker doesn't insure it can get that hot. You can find 15 psi cookers unable to go above 230°F for some reason like the tank quality, as you can find 11.6 Psi cookers able to hit 240°F. Also you can find pots able to hit 250°F but through unstable temps fluctuations, and a stable 240°F would be safer. Pressure is just an indicator of the maximum temp achievable and a 15 psi cooker can be trusted IF and ONLY IF the rest of the pot is able to push that high + maintain a stable max heat + gives accurate temp reading.
The other model, Duo Nova, is said to be able to produce 10.5 to 11.6 psi. That's too big margin of error to be sure you'll get at least 240°F at see level, and it wont tell you if it does or not. Just like the Pro Plus you can't have a clue about how hot it gets, only the IP Max has such features.

I'm curious to know what the bigger instant pot you have is and also that you've used it to can? I have the instant pot duo and didn't know i could can in it? Interesting!

It's £199 now. I want a steamer for making seitan and for for canning so this seems to be the best one. I have a small kitchen and live alone so no need for the larger one.
