  • This is the perfect video for someone who knows nothing about canning. I go over the basics of what you need and the difference between a water bath canner vs. a pressure. If you want to skip to a certain subject, the categories are listed below along with their time stamp.
NCHFP Canning Book/USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning
    nchfp.uga.edu/...
In upcoming videos, we will talk more about the specifics of canning while using some canning recipes. It will be easier to understand while watching vs me just speaking to you.
Please be sure to SUBSCRIBE so you don’t miss any of those videos and you can learn more about canning and how to stock your pantry.
    00:33--Why Can Your Food?
    02:21--Canning Jars
    11:50--Types of Canners
    16:28--Canning Books
Many of you have asked what type of canner I use. I use the All American 921 Pressure Canner. Here is my Amazon affiliate link to the canner. Know that I will receive a small commission on anything you buy. Thank you.

I had my canner for 3 years now, and I’m still so afraid of using it for the same reason. Plus, I have an electric, glass top stove which makes it even scarier. I’m going to give it a try the next time my daughter is in town. 🤞🏽

As someone just about to get into canning, I appreciate you putting together this video.
From watching a bunch of how-to's now, there's a few very basic points I think should be covered, but please feel free to correct me or elaborate.
▪The importance of pre-sanitizing jars and lids
▪Getting a pressure canner has an advantage, as it can be used as a water bath as well
▪If buying from online used book store, be sure to get the latest revision of the USDA book

Just found your channel today, and I am beyond excited. It was only due to the desire to survive that I began cooking in 2020. I have never enjoyed cooking, and don’t particularly now. However, after learning to make sauces, gravies, etc., from scratch, I can no longer eat the prepared/canned grocery store products, and forget fast food! I had no idea how much better food could taste when prepared at home! 😂 After watching this video, I know you are the perfect teacher for me. So many creators assume one already has knowledge of cooking, and that can lead to many mistakes and much frustration on my part. Thank you for taking the time to give step by step instructions. Suggesting only books you’ve vetted is incredibly responsible and thoughtful of you. I’m looking forward to learning how to can and dehydrate, so I hopefully never again find myself in the position I did during the pandemic.x

You have an excellent and logical teaching style. I really enjoy these type of videos although I would say that here in Scotland the art of canning is virtually unknown apart from those who find it on UA-cam. Jam making is probably as far as it goes but that doesn't really involve any form of canning apart from boiling the fruit down to a concentrate. Many thanks for your work.

Great video! Just stumbled upon this. Since I'm not from the USA, there's quite a difference in canning. We keep it simple, no special pressure cookers, lids or jars. I never boil stuff in the water usually. I put washed, wet jars in the oven for 30 min to dry and sterilize them at the same time. Then can the prepared stuff, put a blanket on the table and turn the jars upside down and wrap them neatly with the blanket to cool for 2 days. Then just check if the lid has a bump turned outside. If it is, then you know it's not properly sealed. You should check out european type of canning. 😊 So simple, we can EVERYTHING, even meat. 😂
Edit: check out slavic or balkan canning method.

Google doesn't give me any results about this method of canning. It takes me to things about botulism. 🙄 Can you give more information?

I have just found you. Your video was great. I very much enjoyed it. I've been canning for a couple of years now, but never did take the time to learn the basics. Thanks! This was great! Catherine near Perth, Ontario.Canada

So been stalling forever and thanks to you I was able to push through some fear and now have my first 20 quarts of meat sauce. I waited to be able to buy an all american 921 and only bought ball jars and lids. So.... Thank You
