i dont play magic online because for whatever reason even though ITS FKING ONLINE they dont always have the cards you want in stock. ITSD FKINHG ONLINE TF U MEAN ITS NOT IN STOCK
Wow a game history AND a replay feature?! That's so useful! I'm sure glad they added these very handy features to their flagship new digital client Magic Are...oh.
MTG Arena will always deliver the least amount of features they can get away with So long as players don’t hold WotC to account by boycotting the Store etc., they will continue to receive bare-minimum junk from the company
Seth thank you so much for finally making this video. I have been wishing that you would do this for literal years. With the pandemic going on it has made paper tournaments impossible for me. And having a guide to walk through the MTGO client is invaluable.
I haven't played since Theros, and I was strictly paper at the time. I had a navy friend of mine get me back into playing and MTGO seemed like the better choice because of the distance (also card availability in some countries) and this has hands down been the best vid on how to get started. Appreciate your work friend!
Getting back in after 20 years away. Last major tournament for me was PTQ New Orleans during Invasion block. Excited to be back in. Nervous about all of the changes.
I’ve been playing a lot of draft on Arena but then came to the realization that I’m putting all this money in and will NEVER see a return. I’ve decided to look into Magic Online and stumbled across this video which has been extremely helpful. Thanks for the informative video, Saff!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. And it looks like go through this every year in case there are new features or UI. I used your budget magic series for my first paper deck and now im using this for my first MTGO experience. Much love 💖
Great guide. As someone who just started using MTGO yesterday, this was really helpful, and while browsing the cardhoarder free bot you recommended, I had an idea. Maybe you’ve done this already, maybe you haven’t, but I’d love to see a commander clash game featuring only cards from free bots and basic lands. With cardhoarder alone, that’s 64 cards and 36 basics right on the dot. I might try this with a couple of friends, and see how it goes. One thing I expect is that everyone involved should probably do it on separate days, so as to not directly interfere with each other’s card pools. With some legends being uncommon, it is something people could actually do.
A big THANK YOU for the tutorial Seth. As I feel unconfortable yet with the in place events (f*** Covid), I started MTGO recently, and it has been a steep learning curve. Really useful the gameplay part, I need to play quicker because I play a combo deck (Hidden Strings in Pioneer), and I've lost games due to by time.
Quit spitting that poison at everyone. That stuff phyrecked mishra & karn. That was one of the sets I played paper. I still have my modern/legacy infect in case I ever want to enter a paper tourney. It's a solid cost effective way to get into eternal. And a clever player can be competitive with it in any big boy (eternal) format. And splashing color makes it pretty adaptable/ versatile. It can be agro, tempo, or control. All rolled into a combo esc group of interactions.
Can you combine between owning and renting cards? Like you have most of the cards in the deck and just need a few can you get them from the rental and have rented and owned cards in the same deck? Or like using the free rentals you talked about and putting other cards you own with them?
Ive never gotten into MOTO for a few reasons, another place i dont need to be spending money, but also ive seen so many good players misclick and punt on the client that it feels super intimidating to learn. Thanks for the tutorial though, maybe ill finally install MOTO
Thanks guys... i was thinking about it for a while, but as a returning player after 15 years... MTGO seem a bit overwhelming at first... MTGA tooks a path i dont really like or wanted.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you did this video very well explained that every beginners would cherish until the day they d... until the day they manage MTGO ! Peace from Paris !
Thank you for this video that might not look like the sexiest topic, yet this is a true public service. I'm considering starting Pioneer so I'll watch it throughout :D
When practising in solo mode, the game also sees yourself as an opponent. Therefore you can't target one of your own hexproof permanents. Just a heads up there.
This came out at a good time for me, a recent change to cards in arena meant about dozen of my decks have to be reworked. The stability of MODO is seems really appealing right now
What annoys me the most is that the main reasons to play mtgo are things which does it better than Arena. I get it with the cardpool, but why does it do things better like "you can get the cards you need". I think its a huge development flaw on WOTC side, especially the dusting system is so bad, I would consider it being scam
Hey Seth, I saw someone pay for costs without having to click 3 times, how do you speed up using mana with infinite combos? (Kinnan with Basalt monolith??)
im totally new bought today my first paper cards and spend 500 dollars xD but i loved it! i started with arena 5 days ago... they should combine arena with MTG Online! or what would u say?
Man, I tried to play this game but got slapped in the face: bought your deck, made a lobby in open standard, no one joined in 5 minutes. Made Gauntlet for new players, waited for a match for 15 minutes, no one is playing that mode. Then I wrote in Liimited Chat, 26k connected, no one answered, no one was chatting. Is it me or no one is playing? It's bad to play this game as a solo player, without buddies?
Hi Goldfish, I really appreciate this video! Just getting started and am happy to see all the options available. Do you have a video that talks about trading sets for paper? Curious to know about the cost vs doing it in real life via ebay or something. Thanks!
What if there is a specific card you need to complete a deck but it is not in stock. That is my current problem with get a Ranar, the Ever-Watchful and even though I have a foil one it doesn’t count. I just started to play MTGO yesterday bought the Ranar pre-con and now I can’t use it properly
Wait so if I wanted to rent, mono green devotion in pioneer for example, which costs 2 dollars a week from cardhoarder, would I just have to pay those 2 dollars a week to play the deck, or would I have to pay that PLUS however many tix the deck costs?
I tried really hard, but wizards just don't want to sell me tix. Declined both my cards and now the checkut page doesn't even work so I can try with PayPal. Gotta love it
One question though: how do you sell specific cards if you’re the type to open chests and end up getting lucky, but have no use for the cards personally? Like for example if you open a Ragavan, T3feri, Hullbreacher, evoke MH2 elementals, etc. but have no good homes for them.
Good question, hopefully someone else on here can answer. Im new to mtgo too. My guess would be you have to do it online (like how he bought a deck but in reverse).
Only officially, but I've been running it on Linux through Lutris for months now with no issues. Well, no more issues than when I was running it on Windows.
Actually there's an article going up tomorrow with free MTGO decks, the ones from a few months ago along with a bunch more. It's not live yet, but it will be here once it is: www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/fifty-free-decks-for-modern-and-pioneer-on-magic-online
Big question, if you trade with a bot and have credit leftover, does every bit from that company/store remember the balance? Or do you have to find that exact bot?
Played MTGO for many many years, mostly for Commander and Drafts. But at some point, many many years ago, I lost interest, sold my digital collection to a trader, and that was pretty much that.
Im looking to get into a card online game. Not sure still Hearthstone Magic yu gi oh pokemon theres so many choices. Thanks for the video its helping in the decision
How do you buy a deck easily, making sure not to get dupes of what u already own? The way you showed only works if you own nothing, right? Do all bots of the same company have the same inventory? Example cardhoarder#1 and cardhoarder#2. If not, how do you know which bot to go to to get the cards u want (Other than through ordering on the website, which he showed.)? Is there a search to see which bots have which cards? You didn't explain much how the loaning works. So how do u know how much u have left in your loan balance? How do you give cards back so u can loan more? How many tix a week or month do these loan companies give you? Thanks!
Sorry if this seems like a silly question but with the whole paying 5$ thing does that actually bar me from playing games on MTGO? am new to all this stuff
So the stops will stay set from game to game (like the stops for phases like end step, main phase, etc). Stuff like "yield to all" resets each game, so you'll have to click it again if you want to activate it.
To be Honest, as much I love the Magic as a beginner Arena feels far more friendly for me. The whole store buy this that with a seemingly buggy shop feels really really really awkward and unprofessional for me. I just want to start but I cant even do that because the shop cant let my buy that beginner thing..... And the only one aspect is better in the Online over arena is the possibility to print the actual card. So far is a mess, and if the support dont let me but that shit, i wont come back this promiscuity.
Hey Seth, any advice for someone who had to sell out of MTGO a couple years ago? I do know a lot of these benefits are for those users who are starting up MTGO for the first time.
If you sold out your entire collection I'd say just start a new account if you're going to join back up (which would make you eligible for all of the stuff we discussed) and then check out the rental programs so you won't need to buy a bunch of cards to start playing.
Everything was going great with this video until after my purchase of tix they restricted my account, should mention that new accounts that make any purchase over a few hundred dollars are going to get restricted
So I have to pay for the one modern deck I want to play and pay for the only game mode I want to play, modern league with prizes. Im almost done building my paper modern deck, MTGO doesn't seem worthit to me.
It's worth pointing out that with a 50% win rate you'll actually profit from playing Modern leagues (you do have to pay an entry fee, but you'll make back everything you put in and more). As for decks, loan programs are great for being able to play multiple decks without spending any additional money (you just play the rental fee and can play as many decks as you want).

Crazy! I’m sure there were good reasons to not have any sort of messaging system for friends or players as well.
MTG Arena will always deliver the least amount of features they can get away with
So long as players don’t hold WotC to account by boycotting the Store etc., they will continue to receive bare-minimum junk from the company

Been playing for awhile in paper and just downloaded mtgo for the first time. Even though I've been playing 7 years, this video helped me get started.
After this video I finally decided to play on MTGO. Spent 80 bucks in my Infect deck of dreams and have a lot of fun. Thank you!
Awesome! Have fun!

This was extremely helpful. Thankyou for this tutorial. Navigating MTGO was very hard. Until I found this video.
Dear lord where have you been all my life, this is so much cheaper than buying the physical cards themselves
Amazing. I’m coming back after years and years away. Totally amazing
I had quite a but of fun with the gauntlet. Thanks for the tutorial, it was very indepth
Awesome tutorial! I'm new to MTGO and just started out today by watching this. Very helpful, thank you!
ZHYA!?! I need some Tylenol after that. Thanks for the fine-tuning into how it all works. I needed it.
This was stupendous. Thank you! The way it handles combos is clean.
This game is more expensive than I realized. I looove this guy's tutorials though; he gives great details.
1000s if you want to play competitive. But if you are playing for fun, play pauper or something less expensive
Can you combine between owning and renting cards? Like you have most of the cards in the deck and just need a few can you get them from the rental and have rented and owned cards in the same deck? Or like using the free rentals you talked about and putting other cards you own with them?
I just joined MTGO to play Vintage Cube so this is nice if I ever want to get into other formats!
I literally just watched the 2020 version the other day. Probably gonna watch this one as well for anything that got updated

Thanks for this! Played around in Arena but might have been sold on Online.
i cant believe you did this without drinking any water
So should I put off making an account until all the standard sets are out, right before rotation, so I get the maximum amount of free cards?
amazing guide, I think Im going to play heartstone :D
Thank you for this video that might not look like the sexiest topic, yet this is a true public service. I'm considering starting Pioneer so I'll watch it throughout :D
I would have never figured this out on my own
When practising in solo mode, the game also sees yourself as an opponent. Therefore you can't target one of your own hexproof permanents. Just a heads up there.
I don’t understand. That’s not a glitch that’s an actual thing, hexproof permanents can’t be targeted, even by your self
@@anthonytoulemonde6425 Hexproof can’t be targeted by opponents. Shroud can’t be targeted at all.
@@burmabaines 🤦♂️ don’t know how I got confused, thanks for clarifying !

Yeah, I normally buy the cheap cards (

thanks for the guide! I always wanted to look into mtgo
Very useful! Although I'm a bit lost in one bit: is it only for events or can you just play and test play vs AI too?

does mtgo have authentic shuffling or does it have a smoothing algorithm.
Can you make some really cheap budget decks for new players who have never played before ?
Wow, such a good content. Thanks a milion!
Hey, I'm new to this game so I have questions to ask. I need to pay access into commander?
Seth, you gotta do something about your desktop icons lol
I wish they would upgrade this game! Imagine if it had the visuals of arena and all these great features. So sad they went the direction they did.
Hey Seth, does mtgo remember the always yield settings from one game to an other? Or is it something you need to reset at the beginning of each games?
