This video was an amazing help, thank you so much for posting it. Doing a JMTC GTD (47mm) on my N18 this Sunday.
I was actually playing Forza Horizon while watching this, and thought Illmerica was coming from the game 😂. Great video
Thank you for this video! I will be fixing my turbo soon and replacing some oil lines. This makes things a lot clearer.
That's why we're here! Good luck with it.
How does the radiator get any air with all those aux lights covering up the grill
wow , good sense of music right there wth wolfgang xD
If my math is right, the stock JCW is published at 208 HP at the crank, so approx 187 HP at the wheels. The final modded JCW produced ~232 HP at the wheels for about a 45 HP gain over stock. but i could be wrong.......
The shop music speaks volumes for BMW / mini
Hi, do you need regulate the wastegate with the k04? i buyed a used k04 and the car can boost more than 0.6 bar, some one tall me the turbo i was restricted to this bar. Can you help me?
will the upgraded turbo and down pipe pass california smog? I have a 2012 JCW that I need to replace the turbo on it is worn out
No, none of these items is CA SMOG compliant. They're for testing offload use only.
how long would it take to just replace the turbo, start to finish?
If you buy all the parts or complete, it's really easy. It take me about 1 Hour + 30 Mins. total. I was working slow too.
So only the negative cable is removed?
How much can the stock n14b16a hold in terms of boost? Thinking about going bigger turbo but don't want to blow my engine
42mm is ok, 45 on a k03 housing the engine runs out of air/cam to push the wheel. a k04 can be done, but it's about airflow. overall, seems 240hp is generally where any consistency goes away, but hard to say. with the right tine, turbo, and cams they can do high 200s, but really takes some money once your into cams.
that 42mm can work on a 2012 mini cooper s, thanks for your videos are the best, greetings from Florida
Hi Mini Mania, what are you doing with the old oem borg warner turbo off of the JCW? Would you consider selling it? I have been on search for a real oem replacment. Great video, thank you kindly.
All that waiting for the golden moment.......dud, no engine running or driving.
Great video, JCW 40mm or Ported Super 42?? any input for my r56 stage 2.
Great video!
I thought y'all did this like early this year? I remember y'all had this done in May from the mini mania 2016 thing you had
If I am just replacing a stock turbo with an OEM replacement, would I have to replace the downpipe if it were not defective?
No, not at all. Turbos that have gone bad, however, can often send oil vapor into the exhaust and foul the cat blocking it up. If the old turbo was leaking oil through bad seals it's a good idea to replace the cat when you have the turbo rebuilt or replaced. If the old turbo is fine and you're just upgrading then the cat should be fine.
Have you had any issues running without the bottom heat shield at all?
I did it without. I hate that thing so I took it out. So far so good, but it's still winter. Don't know on the summer though.
By the way, if you see them broken, etc.... Go to BJ and get Heavy Duty Tin Foil. Wrap that around things you may think it will damage things. OMG, Heavy Duty Tin Foil can do wonders and make great heat shields !!!
where did you get the yellow cap from ? thanks great informative video
Where to get those charge pipe, can it fit on N18 engine?
is that prince engine?
change ur diverter valve, that is really junk rubber, u can try GFB DV+
what is the name of the chrome intercooler air hose, the one you see when you open the hood ?
It's here: www.minimania.com/part/G2NME2170/Mini-Cooper-Charge-Pipe-Intercooler-Outlet-Polished-Gen2-R55-r59
All of these links are in the description.
Thanks.

@@minimania unfortunately it is no longer available
The best hp gains are by installing a bigger intercooler
Ecu tuning is the main component
you need biger injectors a haltec ecu bigger fuel pump and a tune your be in 300hp
I've seen that replacing the cat for a decat is said to take 2 hours. You got it out in 5 minutes? I'm confused
Editing is magical! But remember - we had air tools and a lift - things that make the job easy.
Mini Mania thanks for the reply! Just received my decat and going on in a few hours. Luckily I have battery guns and a ramp also!
Any issues with the lower heat shield removed? I'm getting ready to install a Catless DP and was wondering if I should bother trying to get that sucker back on. I've read its a PITA. Thanks for the video btw.
No issues so far!
ITs pretty easy to get back on. Just shove the heatshield all the way up and to the left so its pulled up at an angle . Put the downpipe in and the bottom heatshield will line up with some studs. The real key to not rip your hair out putting it on is getting a magnetic 10mm socked.
I just bought the same car and was wondering where you got the downpipe?
You can search up a downpipe for your car by typing your make year and model and downpipe and search and usually it pops up but I found mine on eBay my countryman pushes 350 but it’s obnoxiously loud and can spit flames. (Full straight pipe)
I just found this Channel I have 2013 Coupe S completely unmodified, (well I have Bridge Stone Drive Guard run flats on the front tires) Any thoughts on where to start with modification is I'd like to some horse power? Intercooler? I'd like to at least get up to JCW speed preferably a little more.
Sure, an intercooler, cold air intake, ECU retune - all of these things help!
can i ask the exhaust you had one before, or if it had any work done
thanks
Yes, this car had a Quicksilver exhaust and some other upgrades like Ignition Projects coil packs. We added bigger brakes, coil overs, a rear diffuser, Sprint Booster, etc.
For the aggro, should have just put the front end into service mode and done away with the headache
Thats cool video, I have a R56 will 98% of full bolt ons on it now. I am just missing the Intake manifold spacer, and the high flow ported manifold. I also have a set of cams in mine as well. and looking todo a lot more soon. I was wondering tho, with your Dyno tune you did on this cooper S, did you upgrade the intercooler at all or the charge pipe that goes from the turbo, to the intercooler?
Good question, and yes, I forgot to mention in the video that we have upgraded the stock intercooler with one from Wagner. It can be found here: new.minimania.com/part/G2NME3161/Wagner-Performance-Intercooler-Upgrade-For-Mini-Cooper-Fits-2011r55-R61. We did a video for that swap as well - where we replaced an older Wagner intercooler with this new one: ua-cam.com/video/5ymTgniLpwo/v-deo.html
+Mini Mania nice that's cool. Do you plan on building this car for more race use or keep it like more street oriented?
This car is a test bed for us and while it's seen a couple of track days, it's mostly to evaluate different products for street use. So, it's driven nearly every day.
+Mini Mania that's pretty awesome. Keep it guys! 👍
hello, where i can find the upper left stainless steel intercooler pipe with the position for the sensor?
Unfortunately that pipe is no longer available. Our vendor for that pipe was having supplier issues so it was discontinued.
Mini Mania its possible found it used? Thanks for your reply. Also can you tell me the out side dimension of the pipe? Regards
It was 2.25" in diameter - but I'm sure that there are similar pipes available on the aftermarket. Never seen one used.
thank you very much for your reply. best regards
is the heat shield absolutely necessary?
Its a good idea. Keeping the heat where it supposed to be instead of radiating to other areas can't be a bad thing.
esto va a encender la luz del check engine por haber eliminado el catalizador sino ya lo hubiera hecho a mi carro como apago esa luz si el sensor de oxigeno va a comenzar a molestar por malas lecturas
As long as both the upstream and downstream O2 sensors are in place, you will not get any codes. We did not get any codes after performing these upgrades.
what kind of ignition coils are these?
new.minimania.com/part/G2NMK6520/Mini-Cooper-S-Ignition-Upgrade-Kit-R55-r57-2007-2010
+Mini Mania very good!
And people back in the day would say a log manifold was bad,now nearly all new turbo-ed car's use a log manifold. ..equal length it's clearly not....
would the aftermarket down pipe give me a engine light?
If you get a catless down pipe then yes it will throw a check engine light but wont put your car into limp mode. If you go with a catted down pipe you might get a check engine light or you might not. The only way to get rid of the check engine light is to get a tune for the car and it will mask the light for you.
If you want to find more info go here www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/
No, because this down pipe has both of the bungs for the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors. However, it wouldn't pass a smog inspection visual check.
+Mini Mania oh sweet. OK I want one. thanks
do you have the link for the ECU tune?
Yes, I'd forgotten the number but I've now added it to the video description: new.minimania.com/part/G3NME4310/Mini-Cooper-S-Ecu-Upgrade-Gen3-F56-F55-F54-F57
thanks for the quick response...but the link shown below is for the 3rd generation minis...I'm looking for a ecu tuning for my 2007 MCS R56.
Why didnt you put it into front end service mode?
How does it sound tho
The sound isn't much different from when we first added the Quicksilver exhaust here: ua-cam.com/video/sWX3HjhaVVU/v-deo.html
Put the car into front end service mode.. make your life easier. Turbo out and in give me like 2 hours
The stock charge pipe is better. Aftermarket metal ones like that will heat soak faster than plastic. The Stock intake will flow to 300whp also. You changed the stock "cold air" intake for a "warm air", why?
Firstly, metal may conduct heat more quickly than plastic, but then it dissipates heat more quickly, too.
Secondly, the inside diameter of the metal pipe is larger than the stock unit and less restricted in shape (more air = more cooling) making it a much better match for the larger, aftermarket intercooler. The stock pipe is nearly flat in one section - it's made that way to accommodate space - not optimize flow. The OEM pipe is not better than this pipe by a long a shot.
i agreed here with you, that intake is only making things worse, i think this vid is an advertisement of part these guys are doing, showing part you can buy this just mess up a bit.. hell there is ez about 4K on parts and labor here and you get 6%....
poor job on the side of Mini mania
Should've got the k04 borg Warner turbo 100% proven better turbo ..
Gained 1200rpm but lost 10mph in speed?,those numbers don't make sence. .
You´ve gained 17HP with new downpipe, exhaust, air intake, turbo charger, pressure hoses, ECU modification and you´re telling me that 232 is the max HP which can be reached with this system ?
Why du you offer an JMTC ECU upgrade on you´re website which can achieve a power gain of 57,5HP on a stock cooper s n14 ?
That makes no sense to me, please correct me if i´m wrong.
What we've done to this car isn't one of the Stage kits on our site - it's a mix of different products so it's not a one-to-one comparison. Also, the dyno figure we ended with isn't compared to a stock set-up but a figure we had when other mods to the car had been already been done. The 232 Hp isn't a ceiling by any means.
I know that this video isn´t about one of the stage kit´s you offer, but what my question is.
Why does the guy in the video says at 29:46 that this car is "basically tuned to the max"
For me it looks like you´re trying to tell the people that they need a crazy setup like this to get some more HP.
A friend of mine run´s a N14 JCW everyting stock with 270HP.
Another question, why are you leaving the stock intercooler ?
Even in germany in summer a stock JCW get get some power loss caused by hot intake air, and our temperatures in summer are much lower than yours.
Actually, the intercooler is a Wagner unit - we have another video showing that install. What we're saying here is that it's never just one mod that produces Hp but mods that work together to increase bang, blow, squeeze, and suck. We've done a little of all of that to this car over time.
I'd be curious to ask your friend how he's getting 270 Hp.
Sorry i didn´t saw the Wagner intercooler.
With just ecu modification a gain of nearly 30% is impressive, and of corse is it better to change intercooler and downpipe but there are enough n14´s and n18´s which run perfecly stock with just ECU tune.
If you have any further questions you can ask www.gigamot.com/shop/
232 wheel horsepower, the stock 208 is to the crank.
14 bhp improvement I'd say that's a massive epic falure with all those mods,DON'T GET A MINI 😭👎😭
I'd expect to see more with just the decats 😭👎😭
17 HP out of all that ...... wow well i suppose is mini
I thought 2012 was n18? My cooper S is an N18
Some 2012 Cooper S cars have the N18 engines. However, some, like our Coupe still had the N14 in 2012. The N18 came later in the production year.
I have the Coupe S with the n18 engine
Capitan Ryan my r58 coupe is a n18 and it’s a 2011 lol cooper s. Not jcw lol
A hole in the bottom of ocean. Anyone who wants more power should buy a different car instead of changing everything on this car. I love my Mini Countryman S and I am not going to change everything to get 6% increase in power. Thanks for sharing
Six percent, it's a turbo car, high compression. Most ppl are working toward/ getting ready for a tune which add a lot more than some six percent, not to mention add to reliability, most cars are gimped/detuned from factory so basically we're tryin to get all of wat we payed for. It's about the tune or atleast that should b the goal
hi
Does even show the dyno run smh
that's an ugly mini, hate that design the r56 is much better.
this car looks actually really nice when you put the correct parts, wheels, coilovers, and more
ALL THAT PLASTIC 😭👎😭
Who uses old turbo housing bolts on a new turbo?,should've all been new bolts and studs and nuts, tut tut tut..
got a laugh when he was trying to open exhaust clamp by hand, dont give up your day job
NOOOO all that work CHANGE OEM EXHAUST MANIFOLD !!!!!
Tom Brenes , Change it by what? I tought stock JCW exhaust manifold is the upgrade to stock n14 manifolds, so that one is allready there.
the area is so short I don't even think something upgraded would help much to add remember that unit also holds some of the weight (not all ) of the turbo housing.
you need to remove that god awful "turbo" badge from the rear of the car. It's not the 90's, its not something to boast about any more, a fiat 500 has a turbo!
