I am not Christian or Religious but this girl has the voice of a angel.
I introduced my mom to jackie evanchos music 4 years ago.. she constantly wanted me to play this song for her, and multiple times.. Today we had my moms funeral, may she rest in peace.. This is the only song we played in the funeral, before moving her to her resting place.. Im hoping she enjoyed it, on her way to visiting my dad in heaven.. RIP Dorothy Ware, and thank you jackie evancho for such a beautiful version of this song...

I was first impressed by Jackie when she was 9. Here, after having just turned 11, and still having some of her baby teeth,she gives a phenomenal performance better than entertainers twice her age. This is one of the most played and remembered tracks from an epic album. She has made music history ever since. May she have this golden voice forever.

She's actually singing a lament, written by Sarah McLachlan, inspired by the death of a member of the band Smashing Pumpkins who died alone in a hotel room from a heroin overdose. It's a beautiful song, but it's not about angels. Being in "the arms of an angel" is a metaphor for the drug high, and ultimately the death - an escape from the "wreckage" of his life. Yes, it's a religious metaphor that invokes an angel to take him away, but it's ultimately a lament on the sadness of him succumbing to pressures in that way. It's used widely as a sort of praise song because of the word, "angel," but it's important to understand where the song came from.

I'm a 75 Year Old UK RM Vet and since the first time I heard her voice on AMT I have been hooked, you're right so many of her songs have so much feeling and passion that the tears well up for no apparent reason, just the pure joy of listening to a Pure Voice I guess! Whatever it is, bring it on Jackie, thank you I will listen and wipe my eyes for as long as I live.
This is addressed to Jackie: Jackie, I do not know how it happens, I am sure it is on a spiritual plane way above me; your voice, your instrument, reaches down and touches people’s souls. I have read many comments because I have listened to many, many of your videos, and this is the most common thread of all: your voice makes people cry. Has it ever happened to me! It is not a sad cry. It is something even deeper: your voice evokes emotions that one may not have even realized were there or that deep-seated. No one told me this when I started listening to your videos. I was surprised by my own tears - where did this come from? I have a much better understanding now. And I know these words have probably been said thousands of times by now, but the absolute truth of the matter is: you are genuinely one of the rarest individuals that has ever graced this planet: you are truly touched by God. And I mean our Heavenly Father. I am glad to be alive at such an awesome time as well as be alive at a time when I can share the planet with you and listen to you sing. It is wonderful beyond words.

The thing that I find most interesting, in this performance, is the expression of emotion that you can see in Jackie's face. For a ten-year-old child, this is just amazing.

All the songs from this concert at age 11 were equally amazing Ten or twelve songs in three languages. That’s a lot to learn and perform at a professional level. Very very rare talent.

Jackie is "MY ANGEL" for sure. She is a beautiful girl inside and out, and I loved seeing her sing. She opened my eyes and heart like nobody ever has, and the first time I heard her voice was on PBS. I was working out in the backyard, while the PBS station was playing, and when I heard her voice and I stopped everything I was doing and came into the house to watch. I dropped to the floor because I couldn't believe my eyes. I usually don't listen to opera singers, but her voice made me change my mind. I've told everyone I know that Jackie Evancho is "MY ANGEL" and she is just that. She is a gift from God!!! And I love her singing this song.
This Young lady is truly blessed by God. To have such a gift and to be so humble surely is a sign that she dwells in the light of the Almighty. May God shower her with continued success. Amen!!!

What I have seen and heard in the last 3 years is quite frankly BREATHTAKING!
And that comes from someone with almost 48 years of vocal training/experience...and 20 years of performing in public.
By 20yrs old, she will also from I have seen and heard, be an accomplished pianist and singer songwriter.....this girl's...(and soon to be a woman) musical talent, is bloody MIND BLOWING!!

Paul EJ I have the same thought sometimes. I am healthier than you but still getting old. Jackie is giving me an added reason to live, just to see how great she can ultimately become. And you are also right that as she gets older, her lower register is slowly getting even stronger, and her technique is getting even better, while she has still managed to retain her beautiful high notes.

Paul EJ Sorry to hear about your heart condition and I pray that you will be around to witness your prediction. I totally agree with you. Jackie has that something magical and special. Also, agree that her lower register is getting stronger. When younger, I noticed she managed the higher tomes with more ease. Given your experience in music, I would very much appreciate what you think of Amira Willihagen and what future do you see for her? For the life of me, I can't understand why some people criticise Jackie and some think Amira is better. I don't see that same specialness in Amira, particularly in her initial performance of Nessun Dorma. Of course, it's amazing that she was self taught and also picked it up at such a young age. I was just stunned when I came across a woman claiming she has vocal experience criticising Jackie and stating that Jackie has an unnatural voice (negative reference) as a her younger self (8-12) while she states that Jackie is now a shadow of her former self!!! I see that Jackie is developing her lower register and widening the genre of songs in her repertoire. Would love to hear your thoughts!
Friday Bridge Hi there! Thank you for your response and sharing your views. It has made for interesting reading and I agree with most of what you have said and share the same or very similar view. I definitely can hear the pitch problems in Amira and was surprised by the harsh criticism made by some of Amira's fans towards Jackie, especially those claiming to have musical/vocal training/expertise/knowledge. I was also surprised by no one standing up for Jackie. I agree with you that as for Jackie vs Amira, or any artist being compared against another, it is generally a personal preference and I would have no issue with that, if it is stated that their preference is based on personal preference. It annoys me when they claim they have musical expertise and try to compare the 2 on technical aspects. I agree with you and it is also the opinion of renown musicians that Jackie has perfect pitch, and that her performances are generally flawless and a display of perfection, or rather Jackie strives for perfection and is able to deliver perfection. I know the technique you are referring to which Jackie used in the 2 albums mentioned, and that was what made Jackie unique, and possibly capture the hearts of so many. I loved her deep and rich, full tone, This probably made her sound more mature and unchildlike, but this was also the "magic" of her voice! I believe this is what the lady refers to Jackie as having an "unnatural"voice with her wanting to hear a childlike voice! What do you think?
I mentioned to that lady that Jackie has made it clear many times that she is a classical crossover singer and that she does NOT aspire to have an operatic career.
As for Amira, I did not enjoy her performance of Nessun Dorma in the video where comparison of 3 child singers were made. However, I did listen to her album and noticed improvement in her voice, and have commented as such. Hence totally agree with your comments re her being a studio musician. As with any person, with time, age, training and experience, improvement and growth is likely to occur. What baffled me was the comments re Amira having a better operatic voice? I couldn't hear that based on that particular video and her level of performance at that point in time (age 9). In my opinion Amira has NOT achieved 100% technical perfection either, in operatic singing at this time although anything is possible in the future. I'd love to hear your opinion on that,
As for that woman, she states she would love to hear Jackie's natural voice which she states is coming through now; yet she also contradicts herself by saying Jackie is a shadow of her former self. If she thinks that Jackie should have the studied voice of the Opera singer as per your comment, then that is contradictory yet again......but well that woman was contradicting herself (not you). As per your comment, I do agree the pure opera voice is actually a studied voice.
I have listened to songs from Jackie's Awakening album and agree with what you have said. I believe it is a choice made by Jackie and that she is widening the techniques she uses, as well as the genre of songs she sings, rather than that lady's opinion that the change in Jackie's singing means that Jackie has damaged her voice and is now a shadow of her former self!!! ( or that it is the result of her having been exploited by David Forster) !!!
Do you listen to Lea Salonga? She is a Tony award winning artist *Miss Saigon) and the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney's Aladdin and also in Mulan. She is a versatile singer/actress whose main thing is musical theatre, but she has a wide range and hence is capable of doing more than just musical theatre, She can sing Opera but is NOT limited to it. She has been acknowledged by renown musicians as being pitch perfect, "a cut above most" and perfection, able to deliver every concert and every performance at the same standard with consistency. She is also renown for her crystal clear voice and enunciation akin to what you describe to be Jackie's current goal. I'd be interested to hear if you like Lea and what you think about her. I believe she has one of the best natural voices! Blessings to you!

How beautifully Jackie captured and conveyed the emotions of this song at her age, just 11 at the time, is amazing beyond words to describe. Even the song's writer herself, a very gifted singer as well, does not do that as completely as Jackie did in this PBS concert presentation.

She and her dad say her voice is a gift from God. Jackie has been referred to as a child musical prodigy. She's now commonly referred to as a virtuosa soprano. As far as her charming personality, charisma, humble attitude and giving spirit, it's likely she won the gene pool.

Jackie has captivated me since I first heard her on America's Got Talent at her age of 8 or 9. She doesn't miss notes, and her singing comes so naturally. Her animation and expressions are priceless. It's as if she enters another domain when she is singing. And then as soon as she finishes a song, her beautiful face breaks into that heartwarming smile of accomplishment, like the dessert that compliments a main course that you thought was beyond complimenting. She is truly a joy to hear and watch. I wish her nothing but the best. Thank you, Jackie!

I completely agree with you. I first heard her sing on the radio, but then saw her on AGT which completely blew me away. I feel so lucky to be alive to hear her and buy her albums or listen on the computer. Now that she is nearing 24 she has grown into a beautiful woman. I do not know which is prettier herself or her voice. Hope she continues for decades to come.

At a mere 11 years old she was one of the best singers in the world and now 5 years later she is ,I think, the best singer in the world and perhaps the female singer of this century for many! Her voice is a masterpiece of perfection, her vocal range,articulation and octave control are immaculate! And she just keeps getting better and better!

I listen to this song every morning. It’s my morning prayer before I start my day. It gives me peace and hope along with love before I head out.
Don't know how Jackie does it but she is the best at it. This is probably the best concert I have ever watched.
At 10, I was busy being mischievous, talented in making a boy game out of everything, and I was carefree not thinking of the future. Look at her. At 10, she travels the world with David Foster and is a star among the top. And she sings in superlative god's settings like this one, the like most professional singers fantasize singing in. But mostly she truly have the voice of an angel. It's the purity, it's every note perfect and wrapped with passion and love. It's her little chin waving caressing the notes as it come out. It's Jackie Evancho. There's none other.

I agree. I want my granddaughter to progress to this. She is 4, Has perfect pitch, has vibrato in her voice. I would love her to make people feel like Jackie Evancho makes people feel. (if that is what makes HER happy, that is.)
Karen Anderson It sounds like she might have some promise, at that age perfect pitch is probably the most important, because you dont lose that, and not many kids that age have it. You may want to listen to Kaitlyn Maher, who performed on AGT at 4, and Connie Talbot when she was on BGT at 6, for some goal to compare to at those ages. Jackie did not really blossom until 8, but after that she progressed further and faster than pretty much anybody her age.
Thank you, for your advice. Recently, Olivia found a platform in a large dress store, and grabbed a blue shawl. What's next? A full rendition of songs from "Frozen", of course. (all little girls her age are fixated on this) She drew an audience of about 20+ people. She thrived on the attention. She didn't want to sing any of her "training" music...the classics.
Karen Anderson Since she seems to love performing, and you say she is pretty good, you may want to enter some small local talent competitions. Most small competition crowds like that tend to be very tolerant of youngsters, if they have any talent at all. It would give her some realistic performing experience, and you could get a more realistic assessment of how good she really is. That is what Jackie did for 2 yrs before she went on AGT, and I think the experience she had accumulated made a real difference.. The other advantage of small local competitions is it is not that bad if she does not win or get good comments from the judges, since they are not big enough to really matter. Of course the real key is does she have some real talent, and even more important does she love performing in public. It is also important that she perform songs she enjoys. In Jackies case she actually liked classical, probably because she knew she was so good at it. Make sure it is her dream, not yours.

Really appreciate the posting of this breathtaking performance, and the 3 million-plus views so far. Jackie is now 15 years old, and as the title of her latest album *Awakening* attests, she is now moving into a new phase of her career. But she still retains the perfect pitch, the pure tone, the mature interpretation, and of course the stellar character that we have come to know. On August 14 she will rejoin her producer David Foster to headline a show in *Malaysia*. It is always a joy, not only to see and hear Jackie perform, but to follow the adventures on her amazing journey!
