Evans uses his slice incredibly intelligently - to disrupt his opponent's game and destroy their rhythm. Mats Wilander said recently about Tsitsipas that he needs to learn that so much of tennis isn't just about playing your own game well, often that isn't enough. It's about finding ways to make your opponent play worse by disrupting their game, and Evans knows that better than most. In the past we've seen all time great players like Lendl, Sampras, Federer and Graf use slice backhands in a similar way.
That's a good point. At first it seemed to me that he was using his slice imprudently because he used it at unorthodox times, but he was really just throwing his opponents off their game
Let's face it at 5ft 9 he should have been taught a 2 handed backhand...but then he wouldn't have such a great slice, great volley, great serve etc..its all relative. He knows what his limits are and plays accordingly. He has an outstanding backhand topspin as these passing shots show but not at shoulder height hence the slice. He is also ridiculously quick.

I could watch Dan Evans play all day. Scrappy, quick, smart... like a modern day Kriek with a bit of Mac in there with the less-than-elegant strokes that you like anyway.
Tiafoe gets passed several times on here. Tiafoe has had to improve his approaches and volleys - his game was from the baseline but that’s not good enough in the ATP.
He's my favourite player. Too bad it has taken him so long to realize his potential, he probably only has a few more years in him. Let's hope he makes the most of it, so far his 2021 season has been very promising!
One of the absolute best players to watch up close on an outside court. Was there in Sydney when he broke through. A fantastic game Federer wasnt wrong when he admired Dans game
I hope he can break the top 20, he’s proven he has the game, beaten Djokovic, De Minaur, Goffin and Auger-Alliasime and taken Federer close in one of the best matches of the year, but he needs a deep run somewhere and to consistently string some wins together (similar to what Norrie has done)

A laughable comment, Irfan. A backhand slice IS a backhand (the clue is in the name), and there were plenty of topspin backhand passes in these clips for everybody to see. I wonder if you have ever played the game. If so, you would appreciate that there is more to the game than just whacking backhands all the time, which is why all the top tennis players have backhand and forehand slices, backhand and forehand drives, punched and stop volleys, and backhand and forehand lobs. Evans plays all of these well, which is why he's beaten so many top players in his career. One thing that you are allowed to say, however, is that he annoys you, as that is your opinion. To say he doesn't have a backhand is not open to opinion as it is demonstrably not true.
The worst attitude of any player on the tour. Constantly gets frustrated and throws in the towel from winning positions. Sliding down the rankings and soon to be outside the top 50. Horrible player to watch
The British players and their extraordinary lobs...
His match against de Minaur at the ATP Cup was one of the best matches I've ever seen. He's one of the smartest players on the ATP tour!

tsitsipas slice is pretty bad compared to other one handers
This is such an intelligent and pertinent comment. This video was a joy to watch, Evans is indeed a "classy technician"
Evans has had a good season so far. Good wins 😊. And Happy Birthday! Like these birthday tributes.

He doesn't have a big game but he plays smart tennis. Hope he breaks into top 20 this year.
