      He's my favourite Doctor as well, amazing actor with the perfect understanding and potrayal of the character, I always saw his version somewhat as a "final" or "complete" version of The Doctor. His explanation is bittersweet but totally respectable reasoning. On one hand I know I'd love it if the 12th Doctor popped up again in some form but on the other I'm perfectly content with what he got of him and happy to leave it at that with no chance of ruining it.

      @@CJValoI honestly just love how he played with the more 4th wall element of the doctor. I think he mentioned it once how he pictured that the doctor knows he’s a fictional character so he plays along with whatever comes his way but at his core he’s a hero for countless generations . Like when he pulls out the tea and goes “answer, I’m the doctor, deal with it” honestly it’s just such a fun time of the show. I feel what you mean. Doctor Who began with the Doctor as an older, wise, cranky yet heroic space wizard grandpa, and Capaldi harkens back to those early days. Since Hartnell, the Doctor has become younger (from Davison to Tennant and Smith), more of a conventional "leading man" kind of character capable of action, and I feel we've gotten so used to that in New Who until we got Capaldi. It was definitely a shift, but I came to love it quickly.

    Peter Capaldi is a legend. Whenever someone mentions Doctor Who he is the first incarnation that pops up in my mind. I am deeply saddened by the fact that he doesn't want to return but I have massive respect for him and his reasoning. He understands that the show is about death and that returning would cheapen the regeneration. Tho I still think he could come back as a vision or as a guardian of the edge. There are many ways to bring him back without cheapening his exit but again it's his decision and it's a very respectable one.
    EDIT: I'm not saying that multi doctor specials cheapen the regeneration (Day of the Doctor is my favorite anniversary special and I didn't like the fact that the 60th was only Tennant). I'm just trying to understand Pcap's view on returning to the show. Tho I hope he does come back eventually and interact with Ncuti.

The humane thing to do now would be to crash the TARDIS into the sun with the Doctor inside, rather than continue with what they now call Dr Who. The first of the so called specials was enough for me to call it quits having watched for over 50 years. lol cheapen the Doctor, that is pure comedy gold right there.

    I completely disagree with his idea of multi-doctor specials, The whole point of multi-doctor specials isn’t just a cameo it’s to show how far the Doctor as a character morally and ethically has developed. That’s why the scene in the 50th anniversary “the man who forgets and the man who regrets” was so powerful. It’s the same man we’ve been watching since the 60s and we can go back with his time machine and show you how far he’s developed.

    • @Qarth56
      @Qarth56 7 місяців тому +17

      I mean, realistically the whole point is just to get old lead actors back for nostalgic fan service. I don't think any of the other multi-Doctor specials got into how far the Doctor has "morally and ethically" developed.

    • @hexogramd8430
      @hexogramd8430 7 місяців тому +6

      @@Qarth56 Every single multi-doctor special has. Twice upon a time, the first doctor is longing for meaning trying to find purpose. 12 has found that purpose he’s lost passion.
      The 3 Doctors: The First Doctor has one of the most powerful and impactful arcs in the show's history going as far as to find compassion and love in “lesser life forms”. Humanity taught him that. We get to see a doctor still on that arc reflecting on two other doctors who aren’t trying to be that serious.
      The 5 doctors we see the biggest contrast between 5 and 1, one being more impatient and grouchy while 5 is super laid back.
      I think it's almost impossible to see it like this when most people act like different doctors are new people. When they really aren't they are the same person continuing the arc and growth. Especially when you add on to the fact that each doctor’s next personality is based on the mental state while regenerating.

    • @thefonzkiss
      @thefonzkiss 7 місяців тому +6

      It really isn’t. It’s just to get the previous ones back for a bit of fun and get people to watch it. What character development was in The Three Doctors or The Five Doctors or The Two Doctors or Timecrash or the 50th? None. If you want to headcanon some weird thing and write essays in UA-cam comments then go for it!

    • @hexogramd8430
      @hexogramd8430 7 місяців тому +4

      @@nicolesong6199 The whole point of an anniversary special is to celebrate the past. Having past doctors interact actually gives you concrete insight into the doctor and the past of the show. It highlights on screen we’ve gone from the days of the doctor being a crusty aristocrat to a compassionate hero (this is a reference to the first doctor’s arc). I’d imagine if you took me right now now vs me when I’m 6 years old you’d get similar results to a multi doctor story because I’ve grown and changed as a person. That was the whole point of 11’s final words by the way “we are all different people throughout our lives” what a better way to actually shine a light on that growth for an anniversary celebration.
      Imagine if breaking bad had time travel and we could show season 1 Walt interacting with season 5 Walt. Wouldn’t that be something worth watching the interaction of a character who we’ve seen change into someone entirely different but we are also getting a refresher on how far they’ve changed. Doctor who actually has that built in with time travel so it wouldn’t even be as convoluted.

    I’d love to see him in an anniversary special, but I do worry that it might be a while until then. Would love to see like something planned long-term where he shoots a scene now-ish to use later down the line. But that’s the only way I could see it work. Utterly respect his decision to not quickly return for other episodes though.

    As rumours persist that Peter was forced out of the role to make way for Jodie Whittaker, or jumped before he was pushed - and neither he nor the BBC have denied those rumours - I do have to wonder whether he's being remarkably diplomatic and forgiving whilst skirting around one of, if not *the* main reason(s) he won't return to the role.

    In the wake of Bi-Generation and Russell T Davies’ Doctorverse statements, the possibilities for past Doctors appearing again on Doctor Who has opened up. But Peter Capaldi has made it clear that he still has no intention of returning as the Twelfth Doctor.
    When asked by Forbes in a recent interview about the chance of following in David Tennant’s footsteps for a return, Capaldi responded with a firm “No.”
    He elaborated: “I’m a long-standing Doctor Who fan from being a kid … I like the idea that my Doctor is still out there. He’s not available to come and be on TV. The real Doctor is not on TV, the real Doctor is out there.”
