This was was just magic- Marcus being Marcus and Michael keeping up with obvious respect for the legend - Michael is creating his own legend right now ! Great bass players great musicians!
I sat in on a song with some college kids who were very talented and they were playing jazz but nobody was grooving . I grab the young mans bass and the keyboard player started playing some music with odd meter stuff. I looked at the drummer and said follow me. I played in between the odd time signature to make it 4/4 time. People instantly started grooving. I love jazz but there's nothing wrong with making people dance. They got a lot of tips lol.
OK I love these guys and I have not gone nearly as far as either of them in many ways but don't y'all think it's funny that after that whole discussion about jazz and harmony they play it ultra safe and lay down a simple one chord vamp and pretty much play inside the blues scale on their solos? I guess it's about keeping your public persona tight and not taking risks.
@@JTonthedrums Exactly! I had to do a soundcheck (on piano) with Herbie Hancock's Dis' is da Drum band once. When I came off, he said, "Rob, you been holding out on me! I didn't know you could play." All I could say in the moment was: "Hey, I know my place!" 😉.
Marcus was tapping his foot even whilst talking! The funk never leaves his soul!!
It never stops 😂😂
Never felt more lucky to have an internet connection.

8:58 WHAT IS THIS GROOVE?? Michael plays it in a Quartermaster performance with Jacob Collier and it stuck in my mind like crazy
The song is called "Master Rocker" by Bernard Wright.
Well spoken and important lesson for all musicians!
These were amazing
So glad you uploaded these...cheers!!!
you're welcome
Illuminating, entertaining. Wish I could have been there in person.
Man I love Marcus’ tone
This cruise just made my bucket list!
10:38 Looks like Marcus was about to fly with the bass.👏
Wow. Anybody catch Marcus' quote of George Benson's "This Masquerade", @10:50?
Lol thanks for letting me know what it was. I caught it but could not place it...ahh you saved me going to bed with a headache yep thanks again!!
damn ! I thought I was hearing things , yes he did that ! That's what is meant by "big ears" !
he plays Benson quite a bit on his Sirius show 🙂
Great video! Thx for the post.
Proof we're living in The Greatest Timeline!
I think all that Michael League has is respect to Marcus Miller 😅
Some veyr wise words spoken here..
Just Hope the Greats Know how much We Respect Them... \,,/
You can why Marcus Miller is MARCUS MILLER and Michael League is an excellent bass player...
I wonder what Marcus was tapping his foot to?
Beautiful people, great vibes and info. thanks.

The glasses suddenly stopped dropping in the background when the music started
Marcus is a genius!!
“self-indulgent bulllllshlt” is how I think Wynton Marsalis describes that nerdy jazz 😂

... sounds good. Keep on ;)
The illest move is when mm drops his tuning to the low D. Filthy
5:15 is it "Tim Lefebvre " je tanks about ?
le mélonaute yes!
@Chris de Haan rich brown is an incredible player from Canada!
You can't do one without the other . Good point.
Marcus foot never stops even when speaking 😂
Wow!
Listen to modern Merengue music the bassplayers are top notch. Omega el Fuerte s bassplayers.
Lol people talking crazy in the background, wtf.
... that's the way most dutch people acting in daily life. Loud and noisy ... They just don't care ...
Anyone know what the riff is they’re playing?
I’d like to know too! I’ve heard Michael use it as an intro to “Quarter Master”
Spinnin by Bernard Wright, I think.
Dee Wellington it is master blaster off of Bernard Wright’s debut album ‘Nard’ still jams today.
Master Blaster off of Nard. Great tune.
Awesome thanks

The time-frame was pretty small. No time for performing the big picture ...
MMA.....mixed musical arts
8:30 the guy on the right seems to be in love with the guy on the left :p
Stank for no reason ! THEY REEK !
My Question Is:"Can Both Miller & League Play Upright"???-That's All I'm Sayin..
No, they are "just" dealing with bg
On the latest SBL Academy interview, Michael League talks about starting upright just before going to college.
Marcus can, and he is also a classically trained bass clarinet player.
Dutch disease going on in the background...
Absolutely, I agree.
Some say dutch people are loud and cheap. But that's another story ...
AHAHAHAHAHAq that's crack me up xD
Aw poor Michael was so nervous to play with MM haha
not nervous. just that awkward feeling you get when you get to play with one of your heroes. can't describe it...

I do believe that Michael is out of his league here.
Eli E heyoooooo
????
Because his name is Michael League. I thought you were making a joke using his last name 😅
Actually ... I was :-)
bahhhhh
