Just saw them here @ Rio de Janeiro for a crowd no bigger than a hundred folks and they played as if it was their very last day on earth, it was nothing short of amazing, one of the best shows I've seen in my life, one of the best bands that can possibly exist. Absurd skills, energy, charisma, artistry. I truly hope to see them again soon. Fates Warning rules.
Back in 2003 I saw Overkill in Dayton Ohio with about 50 people, the promoter really dropped the ball, and yes in that situation, its so in your face, its amazing. Rock on my man!!

There has never been anyone with a voice that pulls me in the way Ray does, just close your eyes & you experience pure euphoric emotion without even knowing the lyrics, but you do, even more so !
Unfortunately us European fans did not get the same treatment. Queensryche decided to take Firewind and Dark Sky Choir instead of Fates Warning. I wish they brought Fates Warning instead of the aforementioned 2 bands. Queensryche and Fates Warning are my 2 all time favourite bands
InsideOut is the right label for the band artistically, but not for promotional purposes. Fates needs a lot more recognition like even modern Queensryche are getting. You don't get nearly enough intelligently composed metal like this nowadays.

Easily the heaviest album this band has done in an age. Into the Black followed by Kneel and Obey are just epic. Props to whomever or whatever lit a fire under Jim Matheos. Nobody grooves harder than Joey Vera and Bobby Jarzombek is a god. Good to see this band producing heavier material again.
I was there. (I was the guy off on the right with two very young kids on the floor playing electronic devices, despite the fact that they both love Fate's. Pearls before swine.) Here's the thing. They absolutely ripped the roof off with 'Pieces of Me' in the preceding song, and I thought, 'Well, there's the highlight of the show.' Then they played this, and proved me wrong. The only thing they played for the rest of the night within the same ballpark was Still Remains, and it was in the outfield by comparison despite being a very, very solid rendition. The label could have used the live track here and gained, and that's a rare thing these days. /respect

When? They can't play their classic songs live because their singer can't do them so they water it all down and it sounds like what my grandmother likes.

I used to sing with someone who wrote in this same vein, he was just very methodical about his writing and recording. He always had the same look on his face that Jim has on stage. One of the few rock musicians that don´t need to cut the hair after 40, 45 years old. The long hair is part of his personality. I think part of his family came from the border w/ Texas, yeah he´s half indian blood.
The opening show in the US in Joliet was _awesome_. I envy those who are yet to see it! ONLY downside was the promoter/club subjected us to FOUR opening acts that (bluntly) sucked. Fates didn't come on until 10:40. First band was at about 6, I believe.
The Joliet show was spectacular and Fates sounded excellent. The only disappointment was that Aresti is not on this tour, as I had originally thought. There is a young guitarist named Mike (don't recall his last name) that did Aresti's and Kevin Moore's work note-for-note. He filled some pretty big shoes quite admirably. I was hoping for some older material since they were touring with two guitars this time, but the oldest they played was from Perfect Symmetry. I suspect Ray's missing upper register might have something to do with this. I met them after the show by the tour bus and they are all down to earth people and took a lot of time meeting with their fans. Joey Vera in particular was incredibly friendly. He acted like we were old friends from grade school or something. With regards to the opening acts, I missed the first band. The second one was trying to hard to be proggy and ended up being meh. The third band Ion Vein, was okay but they looked bored. Halcyon Way was the final opener. The had great stage presence but sounded muddy. I bought their CD after the show and it really kicks ass.
@Ann Bodan Um, I've seen them four times, and I've met them three times. Each time live they've been outstanding. They're outstanding on the live DVD, and in the live clips I've seen people record at their shows. They've also been very gracious the few times I've talked to them. Maybe you're just the problem?
Intro is very reminiscent of Tool, but nevertheless a great song, with fantastic guitar and vocal hooks! Their new 2016 album is great too, this has been a brilliant comeback for the band so far.

I completely agree, Bobby Jarzombek is a perfect drummer for fates warning. He he seems to have a heavier element in his playing while still keeping the Zonder tradition of the Cymbal and hi-hat embelleshments. I actually found an article/interview of Zonder where they asked him about the 2010 reunion he did with them. They asked him if he would do like to do another reunion on I believe it was (no exit) tour and he said "how about a (APSOG) tour.
I think he likes the heavy stuff, listen how heavy Disconnected was. And he likes to tour... he is busy with about three other projects right now. His new project is more progressive than Slaviour was and said he misses doing prog. However, i'm really digging Jarzombek and he's one of my new favorite drummers but I still miss the feel and elements Zonder brought to fates but like you said, darkness in a different light is a bit heavier and up-beat than previous albums, so I agree that Zonder may not be into the new stuff. I'm also interested in your take on the new Dream Theater stuff and or if you're a DT fan and Mangini?
I still follow Dream Theater, they have some good albums but certainly not as strong as their older stuff. I bought their new album "Dream Theater" 2013 self titled. Pretty good but not the best. I don't remember what year "Train of Thought" but that's a pretty killer album in my opinion! Between the new Fates Warning and the new Dream Theater I definitely listen to Fates Warning much more!
Because live audio is difficult to record. Often doesn't turn out well enough to use unless you go completely balls out for a big multitrack mix, and then spend more time and money mixing that audio into something usable. Raw soundboard feeds sound AWFUL most of the time. Besides, bands like Fates just don't have those budgets. It's easier and more cost effective to use album audio.
I'm with you on this one, not so sure what the rationalization behind this is, but it was a bad idea, plain and simple, I've heard some good phone/camera audio in the past, someone here has OCD big time!
He's filling in but he is very, very good. Just saw them in Cleveland. Could not believe there weren't more people but it was a Sunday night. Ray's voice is still great. Matheos and Vera are solid as ever and the drummer they had was spot on.

NYC show was fantastic although Fates had to cut it short because they had to be off the stage at 11pm.
