On my 1981 MK1 Scirocco’s, I use a 1984 1.8 PH engines. Those are great alone or with a Neuspeed cam. Tectonics exhausted. With a Koni shocks and Neuspeed Sport springs suspension and some good tires, makes a super fun car to drive. Oh, a close ratio trans from an 1987 on Rabbit. From 1984-86 VW took out a circlip in the trans, caused self destructive transmissions, notorious on a 84 GTI Rabbit. 1987 8Y trans code if I remember that correctly is the close ratio 5 spd with the circlip put back in.

Hey Thanks for making videos like these. I really love your content, keep posting buds.
Sorry for the half correction here.
Just to confirm on the camshafts. (For example you get a 268 and a 268-S.. the S stands for solid lifter just to keep in mind which is for hydraulic or solid lifter)
All my descriptions are for if you are using the car as a daily drive car.
    *Camshafts:
*272 is very lumpy on idle and needs a bit of rev up to pull away, power range kicks in around 3k RPM (It likes revving up) 😋
*276 Is a little smoother and and is a bit easier to pull away than the 272, It also kicks in around +- 3k RPM (Its easier on the car and clutch if you run these on CIS fuel injection/ k-jet tronic instead of a 272)
*268 not too sure on this one anymore...
I was told the 268 is a standard GTI Camshaft. Stamped with a G between the lobes Now I dont know...
*288 = You need to do valves and springs - probably double valve springs on the head is you are planning on running one... It has been used without by many before but will give you problems later. (Usually used for drag racing) it will need more frequent engine repairs or rebuilds than the previous 3 mentiond camshafts
*300 camshaft or BP300.... dont have too much info but usually requires full specifically engineered head with all kinds of expensive work done to run it (usually used in fully built Rally and Hillclimb 8 valve engines)

Awesome videos, love the channel! Discovered it because I just bought a Rabbit, 84 with a 1.7 fuel injection. Bought it running, fixed a bunch of stuff, corrected stuff, now it runs like shit and I’m wading in. I got tons of info from your videos. Keep em coming!

@@mk1rabbithole oh all good, man! Update, took a while but it’s running top notch for a cis, if it works, it works. Passed smog (california 😡). Still enjoying the channel even more now and having tons of mk1 fun. Also, fun fact, I moved out here to Santa Rosa, CA from Fishkill, NY. Your neck of the woods it seems. 🤙

Seems kinda popular in EU to put in the 1.4 16v from a polo 6n GTi and slap on bike carbs putting it near 145-150 hp in a super light package.

@@mk1rabbithole hey I have a quick question. I'm currently pulling a 1.6 diesel. What do I do about this speedometer cable? Do I disconnect it where it connects the transmission? Or do I keep it connected there and try to get it out from the dash?

looking at a 1.6 diesel tomorrow I feel like the few things you mentioned to help get a little something out of it would be plenty for the car. Owner is asking $3,200 its in pretty good shape I might pick it up

I’m in a huge pinch right now on my ‘85 gti. My harmonic balancer went out and I can’t find another. I tried some crank pulleys from a ‘86 gt that I had and my dads abf 16v and few different water pump pulleys but they either don’t seem to line up or they make contact. Would you by chance know what water pump and crank pulley setup to run? It’s a ht cis injected engine. Just want to get her up and running again it hurts watching it sit. Any help would be appreciated thank you!

Man, Facebook groups its like the worst thing to get actual knowledge, looking for people who actually has projects in forums, people who have done something documented is the best way to go.

    • @mk1rabbithole
      @mk1rabbithole  3 роки тому

yeah the facebook groups are good for the reasons that vortex lacked, and vice versa. instant info and fast replies are great but it drowns out the juicy stuff and keeps the groups from ever becoming quality databases. i’m always hoping to create something between the middle of both of those with this channel. thanks for watching!

    Brother,
    I like you.
But you are really selling yourself short not using a diesel.
If you have a 1.6d/td you can put a vnt15 variable turbo from a mk4 on it for around $500.
    The mileage man!
    And the torque!
    Also, vortex isn’t dead.
I actually just met a friend on there in the mk1 section and will be traveling to his property

Nathan Brame if you liked me then you would stop with your nonstop negative comments where you constantly just try to prove yourself and your advice as being superior. do you EVER have something positive to say that doesn’t come off as condescending?
