My mom is a pianist (she studied in Russia). I didn't go to music school. She taught me. Just imagine...your mother is a russian-educated pianist and she teaches you piano. At home. Almost everyday...
I kid you not last year we were having family dinner and my mom was talking about me quitting flute a year ago and my aunt was like "ah my son bum jo (my cousin) plays the cello he only grade 3 he been playing 4 years such waste of money you did good" and my cousin literally chokes on his food and goes "mom I'm grade 5 trumpet and I've been playing for over 5 years" and everyone laughed bc they thought it was a joke but apparently my aunt was deadass.
#4 is my older brother. He'd come in all high and try telling me how to play with more emotion that he needs to feel my passion. He says it's all in the facial expressions. I'm doing damn warm ups. The only emotion I'm feeling is torture.
My mum used to play the piano, so she calls instruments what they are. However, my grandparents... Well, they're not musicians. They call my cello the viola (wtf) or double bass and my ukulele is balalaika or mandolin for them.
My mom is the non-musician “expert” and it’s sooo annoying. I play cello, and she played flute in high school for two years and thinks she knows everything. They aren’t even the same type of instrument!
i’m a piano teacher and i’ve had parents that are ALL these types and more. the worst is the parents that don’t care at all or the ones that force their 5 yr old kid to practice for a long time every day until it’s perfect.
My mom was "don't care" and "piano must be a hobby" (= you don't have to practice, because practice is boring, and a hobby is fun). So, I played piano 8 years... And at the end, I just could play "für Elise". Damned. After 15 years without playing, I want to learn again, but with dedication thist time. But, still, that's better than the parents "you have to practice 40 hours a day".
nah my parents were better i started at 4 studyn 20 minutes a day but then i arrived 8-9-10 and they were 40 minutes and at 11 1 hour and 12 1 and a half hour lmao
Valeria Loja I know. He wrote the song with Elise in mind thinking she would learn it. He made the piece for somebody who doesn’t play piano, then he made the second part to be a dick. That piece isn’t hard at all, it was made extremely easy on purpose, and it isn’t impressive in the slightest. Every pianist hates that song, only beginners think it’s hard.
Valeria Loja Correction: I shouldnt say hate. I hate the song, other pianists agree that it is over played and we want to smash our head into a wall when s beginner says “i CaN pLaY” And plays Fur Elise, the first few notes, right hand only (with both hands omfg) in hopes of impressing a musician. The song is beautiful but it’s like eating your favorite food to the point where even the memory of it makes you sick.
My mum is an ex-professional cellist who is basically one of those people who just 'gets it'. Not prodigy level, but I'd wager she wasn't that far off. It's great because she got me into playing violin early, but also hell because now I'm a bit older she's essentially sucked the joy out of playing around her. I can't practice in the house anymore unless she's out or teaching because it stresses me out so much. I'll admit it's really affected my practicing (I practice in school when I can i.e. not often) and she basically thinks I've stopped playing and so constantly brings it up. It ain't fun because I do genuinely love playing the violin and music in general, but she doesn't understand I can't 'get it' immediately at the same speed or in the same capacity that she could/can.
Have you tried telling her that? That you love music but can't practice around her because it's too stressful and that you are not her? Also you can try explaining that every human being learns through making mistakes, mistakes are part of learning process.
I'd sing with my dad at home(non classical. Just wanted it to be pretty) and he would always find something wrong and asked to repeat so i would practise too long, forcing myself to sound like someone from the youtube clip that he likes. My throat started closing in front of him in my teen years and i can't sing before him since then. I also have an anxiety about singing generally becouse of this. I love singing and i sing in tune but it sounds coarse and i guess not as plesant. I hope that people woldn't be so mean to others. We don't have to be all the opera singer or violin prodigy at the age of 9.
Static Truths tbh playing the viola and violin are the same?? All you have to do is learn a new clef and BAM! I rented a violin for the summer from my school and playing it is the same as the Viola pretty much except no C string and there’s an E string.
My parents are number 5... They never allowed me to learn an instrument, it' "too expensive" and I should "concentrate on school"... But with 14, I asked an older friend to teach me the flute, and I learned it! Now I play in the school orchestra and I got a scholarship from a professional flute teacher! So don't you dare give up, if you want something, you can do it!
2:50 was my dad with flute, but he worked grave so he slept during the day. It was impossible to practise at home :( and I couldn't practise at school either. So was my "career" with flute.
I'm a violinist, but my orchestra needed a cello last year, so I learned cello for a year (I actually loved it - after playing violin for 9 years w/ private lessons, school orchestra is a bit dull - cello was a real challenge! I still played violin in private lessons though). And my mom called my cello a bass, after having it in the house for like, 4 months. Then she did it again. At least she's trying.
@@amanademberel4233 Or the duck gun (or whatever it's called) I'm kidding, please don't stab me with reeds (jk aren't they super expensive?) Also, do you make your own reeds? Just out of curiosity.
My mum encouraged me to play in groups, an orchestra and ensembles but never actually turned up to any of my shows when i was in secondary and sixth form - not even when i was concertmaster or a senior student soloist. I even offered to buy the tickets and get her really good seats and everything but she never turned up. I was always that one kid who waited after the concert to be picked up after everyone else had gone home with their parents who had been watching them play. My tutor and one of the art teachers ended up watching me play Handel’s ‘Messiah’ in the local abbey and managed to get reserved seats for one of the school concerts where i had 2 solos because they knew my mum wasn’t coming and it was super sad but also super sweet.
Hit me up. I'll fight your mom. No but seriously I feel really bad. I hope one day she will start to appreciate your talents and will atleast try to come to a convert. Good luck
my mum’s a musician mum- every time i have an exam she makes me sit there and play scales for HOURS. if i make one mistake she just says “again” and i have to be able to play the scale perfectly 5 times in a row before we move onto the next one…. needless to say i always so really well in my scales 💀🥲
My mum’s also the indifferent one, once I was practising and she literally shouted at me for making noise because she couldn’t hear the tv over it (I was playing quietly too).
My family is 100% indifferent to my 8 years of violin playing 💀 but the whole family jumps at their feet at my cousin's cheerleading. *dies a little inside*
I'm still jealous of you. My parents aren't just indifferent, they literally find all music irritating. Doesn't matter what genre of music, doesn't matter if I'm playing music or listening to it. I wish they were only indifferent.
Emily T. I win awards all the time but I feel like since they dont understand all the hardwork and stress that goes hand in hand with playing the violin then they wont understand
What's difficult in that case is that your mom may be correct and the teacher wrong. My brother had that, one time. Our dear piano teacher moved and we had to find another one. We hadn't any luck with the new one we found : she played favorites and my brother wasn't one. She told him to play Chopin like a metronome for the exam. Our mother told him : "Don't". He didn't and instead put feelings in his play. The teacher sabotaged his result because he didn't do as he was told, then told him "Savour your result". Next year, we changed both for a new teacher and never had any problem anymore.
@@canalfelixiano9411 Yeah, thanks. That teacher became our family's meme for each time we spoke about someone messed up in the head. My parents were quite angry at the time and they put extra efforts to find the best teachers we could dream. So, in a way, thanks to her. xD
Both my parents are musicians but when it comes to practice it's the other way around. I always correct them because I'm fresh and young and still care, and they got 30+ years of experience and always say "it'll work out somehow when I'm on stage" 😂😂 (it does actually, what really confuses me... Maybe they're right not to practice properly...)
My mom used to record my lessons, all 45 minutes, once a week, every week. And then she'd go through it at home, pick out the important stuff, and sit in on my practices to remind me every two seconds. That's what you call dedication.
Idk about the reminding every two seconds but I wish my parents would do this for me too. I really want to get better at violin but I basically only have one lesson every week.
Violists do read treble clef routinely, too, though. Most pieces an intermediate to advanced violist would play have some sections written in treble clef.
@@tam199733 Sichuan pepper and Mapo Tofu are eastern dishes that are spicy. The words sichuan and mapo are words for spiciness seasoning(although sichuan im not sure but i think it means a spiciness too) so basically she said she will spice up "her" "son`s" playing of the violin.

Mom: do you think it’s very cheap to pay for you music lessons? Do you know how many kids don’t even have the OPPORTUNITY to learn an instrument? I work so hard every single day just to pay your music classes and you can’t even bother to practice? Fine. Don’t practice. Maybe it’s my fault you don’t practice. Maybe I’m a bad mother who just didn’t instil the proper discipline in you. It’s ok. Just quit. I’m not disappointed in you, I’m disappointed in myself

Mom #1 ---> It's been 4 years and she still calls my cello the violin.
Caitlin Lian RIGHT my dad and grandma calls my clarinet the big flute
Ur mom is half right a cello is a type of violin fun fact. That's why some call it violoncello. Lol
Caitlin Lian I feel u
oh damn, didn't think of that lmao
Grenade 8 years and you could only play a piece for beginners?! Yikes
I love how Eddy speaks normally for 2 moms and speaks high-pitched for the others 😂

Static Truths perish
Static Truths tbh playing the viola and violin are the same?? All you have to do is learn a new clef and BAM! I rented a violin for the summer from my school and playing it is the same as the Viola pretty much except no C string and there’s an E string.
Prisma Noir omg I feel this on a spiritual level
My parents are number 5... They never allowed me to learn an instrument, it' "too expensive" and I should "concentrate on school"...
But with 14, I asked an older friend to teach me the flute, and I learned it! Now I play in the school orchestra and I got a scholarship from a professional flute teacher!
So don't you dare give up, if you want something, you can do it!

When your mom is the musician mom and correct your, “mistakes,” but when you go to class and the teacher says it’s wrong: 👁👄👁
Next year, we changed both for a new teacher and never had any problem anymore.

ahh this is so accurate
Both my parents are musicians but when it comes to practice it's the other way around.
