Simply the finest acapella group on the planet. Sublime. Ethereal. Supernal. Perfect blend, outstanding dynamic control, impeccable dual-choir ebb and flow. There are not words enough. And the best execution of what I call melodic “leading” I’ve ever witnessed. BIG fan!
I can't say enough about this marvelous group. They sing in perfect, or near-perfect intonation. They sing expressively and I believe love what they are singing. They are having a good time. Also, I must give a "shout out" regarding Orlando Gibbons, one of the greatest composers of the late-Elizabethan and early-Jacobean eras, both for vocal and instrumental music
This was my introduction to eight part music as a treble at Lincoln. It started my love of Gibbons in particular and the Tudors in general. This performance is almost as good as we were at Lincoln!
VOCES8 - you make it extremely difficult for me to get any work done. I click on a post like this thinking I will be able to concentrate on something else with this playing in the background. For all the times I have clicked on your links you have taken up every inch of my bandwidth. What better excuse for getting nothing done than this: "I was reveling in the absolute beauty of perfect sound." (I am so grateful my employer does not invest in that software that monitors ones "productivity".)
"In real life if too many people talk at once it's just noise, but with music... With music, it's not noise, it's a perfect harmony." - Peter Schaeffer, 'Amadeus'.
The overtones in the final chord are just stunning… I mean, the whole piece is lovely, but those overtones make me close my eyes and sigh every single time without fail!
Absolutely fantastic performance. I love it when ensembles have the courage to sing “up tempo”. This is you at your best - very well done and love to you all. X
Absolutely stunning! I have had your recording of this piece from 2007 in my favorites ever since I stumbled upon it back in 2008! Attending one of your concerts is on my bucket list, should I get the chance to visit the UK. You all absolutely capture the "Englishness" of the Elizabethan pieces you record. You capture the essence of what one expects when listening to Gibbons, Byrd, Weelkes, and others!
I listen to this every Sunday morning and it thrills me every single time. Then I listen to various other videos of yours. They are all wonderful.. Perfect balance, phrasing and feeling. You bring me such joy.
quand bien même je ne suis plus du tout pratiquant catho mais reste chrétien et croyant, j'apprécie beaucoup ce chant, la qualité des choristes est magnifique. Que du bonheur d'écouter.
The voices are amazing! Because there’s no “choreography”, I appreciate the movement by the different camera angles- especially liked all the closeups toward the end.
Well done. It is wonderful how well the two sopranoes interweave into each other. And the others as well, of course. It is just that the sopranoes are easier to be followed in the sheet music. ;)
Such animation! I'm so glad you chose this wonderful hymn of the Church. God is great!....and you people are amazing. Wish I could see and hear you in person.
@@RajamQED Hymn. Usually sung by the congregation, sometimes accompanied by organ. Simple 4 part harmony, with occasional descents on one or two verses. Anthem is a composed piece of music, sung by the choir, accompanied by organ, and often other instruments. Have specific liturgical placement.
O clap your hands together, all ye people, O sing unto God with a voice of melody. For the Lord is high, and to be feared, he is the great King of all the earth. He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet. He shall choose out an heritage for us, ev'n the worship of Jacob, whom he loved. God is gone up with a merry noise, and the Lord with the sound of the trumpet. O sing praises, sing praises unto our God, O sing praises, sing praises unto the Lord our King. For God is the King of all the earth, sing ye praises with understanding. God reigneth over the heathen, God sitteth upon his holy seat. For God, which is highly exalted, doth defend the earth, as it were with a shield. The 3rd in the Dominant chord (alto) right before the final chord is a bit too prominent for my taste. The last chord is wonderfully balanced! Excellent performance.
Phenomenal in every way, except, for me, the tempo. The shortest notes are crotchets. I would really relish the opportunity of hearing more readily what is going on. Otherwise, as others' comments. You are a most endearing group.

I agree, never heard so perfect voices and their joy to sing together...salutations from France..!!
I agree, it's sublime. One year after, salutations from France ...
Amazing!!! I love this group and I love this song! From Jacksonville North Carolina, United States
VOCES8 IS THE BEST THING TO COME OUT OF BRITAIN SINCE THE BEATLES.

Absolutely gorgeous. Gibbons is so underrated.
The very best of English church music sung beautifully. Thank you.
The very best in voice and composer. Gibbons is among my favorite composers. This was a treat.

Lol. You are delusional.
My absolute favorite choral ensemble. They are perfection.

Sing praises unto our God. Beautiful. Thank you amidst a sad and heavy time.
Beautiful music, beautiful faces lighted by the same joy you give me. Merci infiniment. Carry on please.
My mother had five children and insisted that we not all talk at once. She would never say that to you beautiful people.

WONDERFUL! And a final cadence that is perfectly in tune...ravishing pleasure!

I am still listening and thrilled as ever!
This is delightful. Could not stop smiling. Thanks VOCES8.
Stunning. Love the standing arrangement. I do hope you have more of these "in the can" from the pre-isolation days.
Wonderful!
The perfect hymn for Ascension Thursday." God has gone up with a merry noise". Orlando Gibbons and Voces8: English church music at its very best.
Sean Ward what exactly do you hear here that makes you call it a “hymn?”
Almost as good as italian.
@@andrewyarosh1809 You've got a point. This isn't a hymn, it's an anthem.
@@Bendesho What's the difference? Perhaps you'd be kind enough to explain it to those of us less schooled in English liturgical music. Thank you.

Amen to those lyrics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Praise God from whom all blessings flow..including this ..
Talented gifted voices...so blessed we are...thank you dearest Lord🙏💜
Simply beautiful! That last chord was riveting! 😘
Excellently recorded to do justice to the performances.
Como me fascina esta coralina de voces, perfectamente afinados y coordinados. 😍👏
Great performance! I love your presentations of Renaissance music.
Oh wow! From the Netherlands.
This video and performance brings so much joy-Thanks Voces8 for your talent!
Perfectly and beautifully sung, as usual.
Po prostu pięknie. Gratulacje.

Thank you.
Well, you did it again: vocal perfection!!
Outstanding!

Perfection! Balance has been restored since you upset things with that nose/ear crossed hands now switch exercise!
Simply wonderful!
Thank you Voces 8 for your content-so uplifting during the pandemic! (and any other time in future:))
Wonderful. Thank you.
Simply glorious.
Great, greater, greatest! 👍🏻💪🏻🙏🏻

Beautiful!!!!

Great. Thanks!!! 👏👏👏
I've / we've got to do this someday.
AMAZING!
Thank you very much
What a gift to your fans! Katie, I especially appreciated and enjoyed the alto part in these two pieces. Thank you ALL!
I think I sang something about clapping my hands as a child at school, these guys do it better though.
"If you're happy and you know clap your hands"?
Glorious. Thank you for this. How about The Silver Swan too?
What an ending!!
Brillantissime!

“Hymn?” Really? That would be news to Gibbons, who called it an anthem.
