his coral colored suit was because this was the Andy Williams Valentine Day special. I saw it on TV. I was 22 years old at the time. It is just as thrilling today as on that special day. Bobby purportedly wasn’t feeling very well this night but one would never know it. This was a live performance without auto tune, gyrations, or flashing lights used to cover up performance artists today. His was pitch perfect. He just stood and delivered! 🥰

In a longer version of this, they reveal that Bobby sang this by himself because Bill didn't think it was gonna be a hit. When the host asked Bill "What do you normally do when he's singing?", Bill said "I find a little corner and kick myself a lot." Then the host said, "Come on, I'll show you the little corner I use when Tony Bennett sings San Francisco." 😂🤣😂🤣

This song was written in 1955 for the movie "Unchained". It was used in "Ghost". The Righteous Brothers are Bobby Hatfield (seen here) and Bill Medley. They each sang solos in their performances. This is, and always will be, Bobby's song. Sadly, Bobby passed away in 2003. This was a live performance, he had a cold and his mom was in the audience. No auto tunes. The audience is quiet and respectful. Check out "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", "Ebb Tide" and "You'll Never Walk Alone".

Funny how you mention Dirty Dancing... The other Righteous Brother, Bill Medley, worked with Jennifer Warnes to sing the song "I've Had the Time of My Life", the song Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray danced to in the finale...
If you want more Righteous Brothers, I suggest "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" next... Their harmonies will blow you away. It also happens to be THE most played song on the radio of the 20th century.
Also, right before this performance, which was on a live TV show back in the day, included an interview with both Righteous Brothers that took place right before this performance... They talked about how they got their name, why Bobby Hatfield sang this song alone, where Bill was during this performance, and what he be doing while Bobby was performing this song.

Bobby Hatfield had a one in a million voice, a counter tenor with a 5 octave range. If you listen to the recording of this song it is different. Bobby changed it up for this performance, on the Andy Williams show, because it was a live performance with an audience of over 1 million viewers. He wanted to show off his incredible rsnge and he did; he hit this out of the park.
There have been over 670 covers of this song and it is s popular song used at weddings. Bobby's original recording is used in the movie Ghost.(the pottery wheel scene and at the end of the movie.)
The Righteous Bros. We're inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 and shortly after that Bobby passed away.
Bill Medley ( The other brother) had a big hit with Jennifer Warnes called I Had The Time of My Life from the movie: Dirty Dancing....it's the famous dance scene at the end of the movie.
Check out their big hits: You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling, Soul and Inspiration, You'll Never Walk Alone, Rock and Roll Heaven, Summertime ( just Bobby).

I listen to it again and each time it brings me joy, fills my heart with delight and sheer happiness. I do not belong to that generation, but do not we all listen to Mozart. Beethoven, other great composers? Their music is outside of time, so is this music. I saw reaction to that music on other UA-cam channels. There were very emotional reactions and even disbelief, that Bobbie’s voice is from the 60-s. His voice is amazing and he does almost impossible things with it! Timeless performance! Not just peaceful, like you mentioned. He sings with passion, but one can listen with passion. I do not understand, how your reaction could be so cold. The Penny always drops, but my good man, that was the slowest one ever! I was almost shouting at the monitor "Dude, have you never seen any fucking movie ever, how do you not know this?!" And then "Ah hang on a second". That was a close one. Love you, love your work darlings. Air kisses!

The song was a big part of the movie "Ghost" with Patrick Swazye, who was also in "Dirty Dancing". Bobby supposedly did a new recording for the movie.

The version where they do their own music (through vocal instrumentation) would be Home Free's cover of this song.

Barbelle: "he has a great range!" Bobby Hatfield: "Hold my beer!" (then goes up into countertenor!). For most singers that would be falsetto, but that's Bobby's head voice. This was live, no auto-tune, he had a slight cold and was nervous because his mom was in the audience never having heard him perform live before. This is also nation-wide TV on the Andy Williams Show, which was a big deal then (and still is). This for me is the gold standard for this song.
Home Free covered this, as have about 600 singers, but Home Free did it as well as this in a different way. They took the song back to it's prison roots, and as usual, knocked it out of the park. I won't say it's better, but its as good in a different way.

The Righteous Brothers music had both harmony and melody. Today's music doesn't even come close to classic music like this. There was no auto tune or any electronic enhancement, just raw vocal talent.

This film clip is from the February 14th, Valentines Day Special of The Andy Williams Show. The Bros were dressed identically and Andy Williams, a top notch, high class vocalist the likes of Sinatra, Dean Martin and other smooth crooners of the 50s, 60s & 70s, was wearing a pink pullover and white trousers.
The Bros had an agreement that they each would do 1 solo song on every album; they both wanted to sing Unchained so badly that they finally let a coin toss make that decision for them. Obviously the perfect Bro for this amazing song won the toss.
On the extended version of this clip, Andy spends a few minutes talking with them and Bobby is sort of huffing & puffing, like he just ran a few laps; actually, he had an upper respiratory infection, a cold, bronchitis?
He also suffered from extreme stage fright, and he would lose his lunch, rather violently before every performance.
As if this wasn't bad enough, his mother was in the audience seeing him sing live for the first time and he was terribly worried that he might disappoint her.
Bobby Hatfield was only 25 when he made what is arguably the finest solo vocal performance in history.
Many had tried yet none have equaled what that young man did on that Valentines Day.
Did someone mention Dirty Dancing? The song from that movie, "I've Had The Time Of My Life" the malr vocals were performed by Bill Medley, the other Brother.

It wasn't Valentine's Day. It was October 25.
He would perform on an empty stomach. So he wasn't vomiting violently. And, he wasn't worried about disappointing his mom or anyone. He had rehearsed with the orchestra and was completely prepared.
It was the first professional performance his mom attended. He loved to sing from when he was a very young child.
It seems his first "public" performance was on a local radio station when he was 8 years old. He sang Shortnin' Bread.😁
Sorry for continuing to correct you😔, but there was no coin toss. That seems to be a story that Bill conjured up (after Bobby's death) after always previously saying that Bobby brought it to the studio to be his solo for the album. He certainly never suggested there was a coin toss in front of Bobby.
In interviews when they talked about it, Bobby said how easy it was for him to record because he had been singing it as far back as he could remember. He did mentioned that Bill produced it, not Spector. Basically, he complimented Bill.

It was around the same time as Elvis and he did record it as well, I love Elvis but this is definitely known to be the best recording. Everyone was singing it. There is a young girl Angelina Jordan who recorded quite a few years back and really did it well. She is now 17 and has just recorded her first EP Old Enough with six originals on it she is with Republic Records now. Do yourselves a favourite and listen to it. Blessings to you from South Africa
