      Yes, Polar bears are prideful and somewhat arrogant creatures. Up here in Canada, you rarely see them ask for help, except for math homework. They'll almost always bug you for help with math homework.

      @@maamamamamamama you can actually walk or boat pass a Hippo (if it doesn’t feel like you’re invading its territory). But if a Polar Bear catches your scent, it’ll follow your scent until it eats you. They do not stop hunting when theirs hungry.

      @Audio and whips I was under the impression during hibernation their bodily functions are severely lessened and they burn through less calories because of it to try and sustain themselves through winter, it’s pretty likely I was underestimating the time but I don’t think this bear has been stuck with the can on it’s tongue for anywhere near as long as a month or more

      @@swordfish350I imagine that dehydration would get it way before starvation. I think bears drink similar to how dogs and cats do by using the tip of their tongue to draw a column of water into their mouths. The can would make that really hard to do! Could get some water just by sticking their face in but without being able to draw their tongue all the way in it could be hard to swallow.

The bear knew he needed a more intelligent being to solve his problem. And he knew that someone would be a human. Pretty amazing don't you think? It shows animals are more than sacks of meat with basic instincts. They can actually think and problem solve.

    He came to seek help. He was already so tired and seemed to have not eaten in days. This man was so generous.
    Edit-For those Hungry bears attack and eat humans. These rescuers knew and tranquilised it. So all is good.

      In general yeah, but since polar bears specificslly have no natural predators their first response to pretty much all animals is "kill, eat" so it's kinda surprising this one was a bit more patient

      Polar bears are dangerous, never approach one even when they’re seriously hurt or injured, they will be super aggressive. Only approach a injured one if you’re a professional and have a whole team begin your back ready to pull you out

      Yes definitely, this is why when you open tins you should always completely remove the lid, I've had 3 birds I've had to get heads out of tins like that and found one cat dead after the lid cut it's neck open in the struggle to remove it

      Crazy thing is you the bear would have had to have been near starving to even consider approaching a human. They are prideful and rightfully so being an apex predators in their own right. To submit to a human like this is a most heartbreaking to see. But yes a beautiful interaction.

Or is it because the animal realm knows by some instinct to go to a human because now it’s the only place to go for help? The one that sticks in my mind the most was the Bull Elephant in Africa that had a spear from some god cursed poacher stuck in its ear. Went to , bare with me I think it as a farm or a wildlife area of some sort. The people there helped the elephant and the elephant from then till now has stayed where these people are.

      i actually feel a little sad for what it all must have looked like from his perspective.
      for a wild animal to come to a human for help, indicates it was in an absolute desperate state. poor bear was in a lot of pain and willing to risk getting close to a species that it knew Could hurt him. just to actually get captured and knocked out unconscious by them.
      the amount of fear and regret to have thought they would help him out of his situation, must have been insane :( of course from our perspective its obvious help, but just imagining experiencing it as the bear.
      poor gentle and intelligent soul. i hope he was happy when he noticed the fish snacks

    This actually happened in July 2022 in the north of Russia. The young bear was saved by specialists of the Moscow Zoo. She herself came to the village for help, but the man on the video could not help her. Therefore, a team from Moscow Zoo was assembled to the rescue. The bear was strewn, the jar was removed, the tongue itself was not heavily damaged. Then the beast was taken to 100 km from the village, to prevent her from returning to people. Also they left her food, because she obviously could not hunt in the next few days. In Russia, white bears are guarded, their population are actively monitored.

      My favorite thing as an outdoorsman is how naive people are to all animal intelligence. I say all the time. On a planet where everything is trying to survive. Anything that lives for millions of years has to be extremely intelligent

      The only reason we think animals are stupid is because we've been taught that for generations, animals can be incredibly smart and understanding. There is far less separating us from the rest of the animal kingdom than we like to think, ignorance is bliss!

To raise animals in the most evil, sickening conditions then make them endure a terrifying end. It enables us to look down on them and make laws that make it acceptable to kill young animals before they've even finished growing. Facing up to just how smart, kind, funny, protective etc animals are would mean we'd need to face what scum humans are to treat them as we do.

      @@thisiscait so what, back when we were "part of the food chain" we were hunted by most large predators. our children were hunted by most predators in general. Lions will kill the cubs of other lions in their pride so their offspring are the ones to get nurtured. Nature is cruel, and sure we are animals just the same as anythign else on this planet, but that changes nothing, we sit the throne, we rule the planet, earth is a kingdom, and humanity is king, kings were people just like everyone they ruled, but they still ruled. this planet was a battleground for dominance hundreds of thousands of years ago, and when homo sapiens showed up, we were one of 7 "human" species. now its only us. we have bled and died to escape the ruthless world that is the natural cycle on this planet. Animals are not our equals. dogs and cats arent our equals, they are family and pets, but they are still our slaves at the end of the day, thats what domestication is, its slavery, and I fully approve of it.

      Here’s the thing. Look deep into that polar bears eyes. Is there any kind of emotion. No. It would kill and eat that man the second he finished helping it or would maul him if we attempted to help him with tranquilizers because the bear would be in pain and instinctively attack or at the very least scratch him “accidentally”

      It's the least we could do considering we're the majority contributors to it's loss of habitat and food supplies running out, hence trying to get to whatever was in that can to eat it. I'm grateful for the people that helped him and to all the others around the world that have dedicated their lives to the conservation and protection of our planets creatures!! I wish I was in a position to do exactly that 😢

    Living around wild animals, I noticed that they watch EVERYTHING we do outside. They know our habits, they know our actions, it is so cool that this bear observed enough to know that the man could help.

      It also shows that he see's him as a friendly neighbor and not a threat or enemy, and polar bears are known to be the more aggressive ones of the bear family.

    I cannot imagine the pain he must have experienced from nearly slicing his tongue off. Such a sensitive part of his body being lodged into a razor sharp edge for probably weeks, it's amazing he didn't get an infection or worse.

      Its also reciprocated!!! Dolphins are known to interfere with potential attacks on humans and seals, saving a few lives. There have been Coyotes video tapes chasing off bears from small kids, then leaving the defenseless child alone. A tiger has even prevented a rape attempt before on camera, then ran off.
