And this episode was where I came up with the theory that Sokka is a martial arts prodigy. His development as a warrior was extremely fast. He went from getting his ass kicked by Fat in two moves, to beating him easily in a single day. And while Piandao was obviously going easy on him, the fact that Sokka was able to keep up at all after only a day shows he has immense talent. You can also think back to the Kyoshi Island episode where Sokka picked up the basics of their combat style after a single lesson with Suki. Or how he was able to learn Ty Lee's attack patterns and dodge her strikes flawlessly by the second time they faced off. While many people like to downplay Sokka's martial arts prowess, it is insane how much he learned in such a short time. He is as much of a prodigy as any of the other members of the Gaang.
This episode does an excellent job showing how even though Sokka is the oldest on the Gaang, he is still a child himself. Him standing next to Piandao, being so small when he’s usually the biggest. It reminds us that all of the group are truly just kids. It makes the whole war and situation so much more heavy in my opinion. When he paints the rainbow and asks Piandao “Is that okay?”, my heart always breaks.
yeah, to my knowledge that's canon. Though I was suprised they made that connection. After all someone telling you "john" is a good cover name doesn't mean he trained that other guy that chose 'john' as a cover name.

9:00 Okay, so asteroids are big chunks of rock that float in space. Too small to be a planetary body. Meteorites are when asteroids enter atmosphere. The atmosphere and gravity set them on fire and pulls them to the planet's surface. Generally, meteorites are too small to damage, so they burn up in the atmosphere before actually reaching the surface. Comets are actually huge chunks of ice (the A:TLA show kinda misrepresents them by showing Sozin's Comet as a fireball). They tend to pass through space on their own orbital trajectory, hence why some (like the famous Hayley's Comet) can be seen from earth at certain regular intervals.
Not a scientist but what if Sozin's Comet is one that just grazes the Earth's atmosphere and thus burns before exiting again? In which case, it would be fire rather than ice when it gets here?
@@lightningg252So-called "Earth grazing" comets do occasionally happen, but that doesn't mean the comet "becomes fire". It's still a "dirty snowball" that's just generating a wave of plasma ahead of it due to its speed in the atmosphere. However, in the real world, touching the atmosphere would change the comet's orbit, so it wouldn't come back at the same time next orbit. Also, a large chunk of the comet would melt, so it can't survive doing that more than two or three times. So, I think we can safely assume that comets in the Avatar verse don't work by real-world rules.

Can orbit the sun, but doesn't always
The more I rewatch avatar the more I come to love Sokka as a character. I liked him the first time around of course but he is such a great character because even though he grows fundamentally he is still very true to himself from early episodes.
Interesting to see that you linked Zuko with Piandao due to the cover name Lee. Well, you are right that Zuko was indeed trained in swordsmanship by Piandao. Although not for the reason you mentioned. Also, I just realized (which I should have long back). Dao (from the name Piandao) can be read in Mandarin which mean 'Sword'. More specifically a single edge sword. Unfortunately, I have no idea what Pian means, but this name does fit a swordmaster. Fun fact, that same kanji in Japanese can be read as 'Katana' or 'To' which also means a single edge sword.
Something that is never mentioned in the series, but in the comic "The Lost Adventures" is that Master Piandao was also Zuko's sword fighting teacher. Zuko trained with him since he was very little.

Comet is a ball of ice that orbits the sun Asteroid is a lump of rock in space that's smaller than a planet Meteoroid is a much smaller lump of rock in space Meteorite is when a piece of an asteroid, meteoroid or comet enters the earth's atmosphere.
Toph bending that meteor piece shows earth bending is actually mineral bending, cause it doesn’t contain “earth”, allowing her to bend all minerals. Something the creators forgot in Korra 🙄
Alright, I'm up for getting into some nerd talk. First it's worth pointing out that not only do the writers sometimes forget things (like Toph being blind), but this could also be little more than a gag since she bends it into the shape of the Nickelodeon logo. It's also worth noting that bending in general has also always been fairly vague. It's only _based_ on science, there are also supernatural factors at play like _Chi._ In *ATLA* it's said that metal bending was based on the _impurities_ in the metal, and the cage Toph broke out of was probably just some basic Iron, which can be full of things like _Silica._ AFAIK meteorites usually have pretty _low_ levels of Silica, potentially making it more pure than most metal found in the show. I think that increased purity was part of the meaning behind the sensei's comment about the ore. But even so I'm pretty sure meteorites usually still have _some_ impurities, silica dust is floating all throughout the universe. TL;DR: What I'm getting at (unless there's a key piece in my Korra blind spot), is that I don't think it's _all_ minerals *or* _Earth_ minerals. Earth bending is probably based on manipulating a specific common mineral like _Silica._ Silica makes up a huge percentage of the Earth's crust, and is one of the primary components of nearly all rocks. In *TLOK*, (I think, I didn't finish it so correct me if I'm wrong) - - - *_LEGEND OF KORRA TALK BELOW_* - - - I think the thing was that TLOK takes place in the future, where metallurgy has advanced to the point that they developed a type of platinum that was resistant to bending because it was _particularly pure._ The writers probably should have just invented some new type of metal since actual pure platinum is pretty malleable, but I think that was the whole point of it, that it didn't have those impurities that earth benders manipulate.
@@temporal_paradox nice answer! After a brief research, yeah, it could be that “Earth” bending might do more with silica than other stuff. Meteorites can contain some of it, so maybe that is why she was able to bend it. Same case with Sand, Lava, and ATLA metal bending (since it isn’t that pure). However, if we base it more that she is bending silica, a mineral, does it make it mineral bending, as I am saying, or just silica bending? However, looking at other bendings and energy, it does seem quite limited to just stay at the silica/“earth” theory, doesn’t it? Compared to others like Fire, where they can bend “heat” (for example, when in ATLAs backstory we see Sozin helping Roku with the volcano by channeling the heat out of the lava and making it hard) and the have Lightning, which is even more far fetched than Heat, as it involves a bit different science than Fire. Water bending being able to bend Blood, even though its more Plasma, but well, that is the most logical one. Air bending is similar to Earth bending, in the way that its the mixture of different gasses and not just a concept of “air”, but we don’t see as much advancement in this one. With that said, I believe that as Fire bending, the others should have also gone a similar route, and Earth bending should actually be more like mineral bending. Which is why I am personally mad with the direction they took for Earth, in that they can only bend Metal with impurities in it, and even worse in TLOK. Going back to the meteorite for Sokkas sword, I find it interesting that they we didn’t see them purifying the pieces Sokka managed to extract, implying that they used them as a whole for the sword, making it purely metal, without silica or other minerals. Maybe they didn’t care about impurities, but it is shown to be stronger than other metals.
Asteroids are space rocks in the asteroid belt in between Mars and Jupiter, Meteors are space rocks everywhere else, and meteorites are the asteroids and meteors that made it through Earth's atmosphere and you can find on Earth.

Asteroid is when the space rock is in space, slightly smaller than a planet. Meteorite is the size of a small rock. Meteor is a meteorite entering the atmosphere .
Comets are ball of ice. Asteroids are small objects that just circle sun. Meteor is when it comes to earth. Meteorite is when it landed. For example shooting star events are meteors. Bunch of rocks that are so close to atmosphere that they start to glow from heat. But if one of them hit the earth, rock/metal that is left is called meteorite.
Comet: big ball of ice and dust that orbits the sun. Asteroid: big rock that orbits planets and stars. Meteorite (what is shown in this episode): a chunk of rock that makes it through earth's atmosphere and collides with the surface of the planet. Comets and Asteroids, by definition, do not exist outside of space. (and by the way, all of this can be found by a simple google search instead of demanding that your viewers take the time to educate you)
Sokka was always a valuable member. But he needed this: Aang got more elements to bend, Katara became an expert, and Toph invented metal bending. In any other team on the planet, Sokka would have been a brilliant strategist and warrior, but he's among legends in the making and needed to make his mark.
Hi there, Carlie and Ange! Here is the difference between comets, and asteroids. Comets are small icy dirtballs that orbit the Sun. They are made of ice and dust. On the other hand, asteroids are made of rock. A meteor is a space rock, or meteoroid, that enters Earth's atmosphere. As it burns up upon entering Earth's atmosphere, it creates a streak of light in the sky, often called a "shooting star."
Here's a simple answer for the Meteorite/Asteroid/Comet question: •*Asteroids* are small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun like planets, but theyre much smaller than planets. Some may know this as the "asteroid belt" of our solar system aswell. •A *Meteorite* is a rock that falls to Earth from space. Most are very old and they provide some of the only samples we have of other worlds(other planets) in our solar system. They burn up as they enter our(Earth's) atmosphere and the firey streak is what many people call shopting stars ☄️ •A *Comet* is a small, icy object that orbits the sun and has a long "tail" of gas. Some comets can be seen from Earth every few years and some pass by once in a lifetime or once every 500 years etc, but they circle back eventually. Comets are made of ice, dust, and tiny pieces of rock but to us on Earth, people say they look like streaks or smudges across the sky. *Sozin's Comet* comes once every *100 years* and is the Comet Zukos great grandfather used to kill the Air Nation in an effort to kill Aang. It is the same Comet circling back in the sumer of the shows timeline. Hoped that's helps ♡
Comets are larger bodies in space on their own orbit around a star, not as big as planets but very sizable still, they will come by earth on a fixed cycle and you will be able to see them in the sky for a monent then (there is sozins comet in the show which passes by every 100 years) Meteors and meteorites are effectively the same, both debris from space that's falling into the earths atmosphere, except Im pretty sure that meteors burn up in the atmosphere entirely and meteorites crash down onto the surface

First it's worth pointing out that not only do the writers sometimes forget things (like Toph being blind), but this could also be little more than a gag since she bends it into the shape of the Nickelodeon logo. It's also worth noting that bending in general has also always been fairly vague. It's only _based_ on science, there are also supernatural factors at play like _Chi._
In *ATLA* it's said that metal bending was based on the _impurities_ in the metal, and the cage Toph broke out of was probably just some basic Iron, which can be full of things like _Silica._ AFAIK meteorites usually have pretty _low_ levels of Silica, potentially making it more pure than most metal found in the show.
In *TLOK*, (I think, I didn't finish it so correct me if I'm wrong)
- - - *_LEGEND OF KORRA TALK BELOW_* - - -
I think the thing was that TLOK takes place in the future, where metallurgy has advanced to the point that they developed a type of platinum that was resistant to bending because it was _particularly pure._ The writers probably should have just invented some new type of metal since actual pure platinum is pretty malleable, but I think that was the whole point of it, that it didn't have those impurities that earth benders manipulate.
10:26 Carlie 🤣
If it's in space, ice equals comet, rock equals asteroid. If it's falling it's a meteor, if it's on the ground, it's a meteorite.
“ I love sokkas sword so much “
I mean can we get a pause on that?! XD
This episode mirrors episode 1x4 where he told Suki he was their best fighter in his village.
Iroh was never fat, he just went on the most epic bulk on fire nation history.
I have been waiting for the "LEE" thing since Ange said it weeks ago!!! 😂😂
So glad they got a Sokka focus episode despite some of the run time was used to hype Iroh.
0:16 You might even say she was "down in the dumps".
Ange would absolutely love Beck: the Mongolian chop squad, so I recommend to you guys! Love the vids
Bro this, Ive been saying this for a loooong time
That's not a show I ever would have thought to suggest, but I'm kind of here for it.

Mrs. Carly brought up time skips/epilogues at the end. I won’t confirm or deny this, but it hit me avoid spoilers yu guys may not be aware that Avatar studios is currently in production on a 2D Avatar movie taking place after the show with the surviving cast as adults, it’s not TV movie, not a Streaming Movie, it’s a only in theaters movie set for next year. If yu guys did no this then sorry for waiting yur time reading this.
I absolutely love this episode!

Asteroid is when the space rock is in space, slightly smaller than a planet. Meteorite is the size of a small rock. Meteor is a meteorite entering the atmosphere .
We all love Uncle Iron.

This episode and next are my favourite episodes of the show
Comets are ball of ice. Asteroids are small objects that just circle sun. Meteor is when it comes to earth. Meteorite is when it landed. For example shooting star events are meteors. Bunch of rocks that are so close to atmosphere that they start to glow from heat. But if one of them hit the earth, rock/metal that is left is called meteorite.
iroh a legend

Great reaction!
(and by the way, all of this can be found by a simple google search instead of demanding that your viewers take the time to educate you)
Ange: Do you think he should continue a long term relationship with the moon?
Carlie: Yes.
Ange: You're being unreasonable.
LOL!! This had me rolling!
Sokka was always a valuable member. But he needed this: Aang got more elements to bend, Katara became an expert, and Toph invented metal bending. In any other team on the planet, Sokka would have been a brilliant strategist and warrior, but he's among legends in the making and needed to make his mark.
Yay I’m so happy for him
Toph really lowkey crushed on a guy she couldn't see😅

Hi there, Carlie and Ange! Here is the difference between comets, and asteroids. Comets are small icy dirtballs that orbit the Sun. They are made of ice and dust. On the other hand, asteroids are made of rock. A meteor is a space rock, or meteoroid, that enters Earth's atmosphere. As it burns up upon entering Earth's atmosphere, it creates a streak of light in the sky, often called a "shooting star."

I don't think Ange got your subtle hint about shopping, Carlie.
Season 3 is so hot🔥
Here's a simple answer for the Meteorite/Asteroid/Comet question:
•*Asteroids* are small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun like planets, but theyre much smaller than planets. Some may know this as the "asteroid belt" of our solar system aswell.
•A *Meteorite* is a rock that falls to Earth from space. Most are very old and they provide some of the only samples we have of other worlds(other planets) in our solar system. They burn up as they enter our(Earth's) atmosphere and the firey streak is what many people call shopting stars ☄️
•A *Comet* is a small, icy object that orbits the sun and has a long "tail" of gas.
I love Sokka
Comets are larger bodies in space on their own orbit around a star, not as big as planets but very sizable still, they will come by earth on a fixed cycle and you will be able to see them in the sky for a monent then (there is sozins comet in the show which passes by every 100 years)
Meteors and meteorites are effectively the same, both debris from space that's falling into the earths atmosphere, except Im pretty sure that meteors burn up in the atmosphere entirely and meteorites crash down onto the surface
I’m excited to see the reaction to the next one lmao
