The absolute in consoles and sound.I was an intern in NewYork with 2 studios with 24 track Neve consoles,Studer 24 track and mcintosh amps on the JBL 604 monitors. nothing ever came close to the sound of that studio. Half way through my internship, they changed over to Neve automated consoles which remembered every fader position for remixes and takes. So you revert back to a specific take, and the faders would set up automatically. The most amazing thing I have ever seen.Smooth as silk movement. This was back in 1979.Rupert was totally ahead of his time.RIP Rupert.Nice presentation guys.
What's really amazing is that for a long time Rupert felt like the 1073 was a mistake. He either overlooked some numbers, or it was the best he could do at the time, but it wasn't ideal. I heard him talk about how it does this thing when it's under heavy load that it shouldn't do. I'm trying to remember exactly what he said, but the long and the short of it is that it had something to do with overmodulating and harmonics etc.......and that he could make a better preamp....so he set to do that....and made some amazing strides doing do. The problem is that those weird things that he considered a weakness, or mistake, were the VERY THINGS that made them sound so damn good. When he finally got his equipment REALLY clean he realized that the vibrant honest sound he thought he would get, was really just sterile and stale. So he came full circle where he realized that it wasn't about getting a "clean signal" so much as it was all about being able to get a clean and open signal, and then be able to decide what kind of distortion you want, and how much...just like cooking with seasoning. I totally agree with the others who say that "distortion" is a BAD word for the rainbow of colors and harmonics we LOVE to hear in our music. It seems like Rupert spent the last third of his life making audio products that use the right kind of "distortion" Even, odd harmonics, and then different kinds of caps, transformers, steel, nickel, iron etc. He was a genius, and a VERY cool and loving man from what I know of him. Just a down to earth Christian who felt like his talents were his gift to humanity to make great music for the world. He was a visionary, and a special human being who EVERYONE should love and honor, even if they don't know anything about audio recording.
Awesome tribute !!! So grateful we have had the good fortune of having such an amazing engineering genius give us such wonderful equipment to use in our audio recordings. R.I.P. Rupert Neve
Much respect and love for Mr Rupert Neve!!!im a proud owner of his craftsmanship and will cherish it.May your memory live on Sir!!!Beautiful tribute guys!!
He won't be forgotten. Recording gear wouldn't be the same today without a mind like his. And even if I'll never own a single original Neve designed piece of gear, I know., that he layed the ground for countless commercial and diy projects of today. Thank you Rupert Neve, you will be missed.
A legend has left our world, but his legacy will remain not only on his consoles and equipment, although inside all our souls and the music we made. Thank you for this video. I am not a pro, but Mr. rupert made me get better mixes and love my music again, with a new perspective, that only he could have given me.
RIP Sir Rupert Neve, The man who inspected every console, before leaving the factory. That's what I call, commitment and great service. Thanks for the tribute for this genuine genius.
Not being a fanboy here... but this man has contributed so much to the music industry that in most big hits since the 60's, his name has been there in the mixes, with gear or components.
Rupert Neve started it all. And never stopped creating stuff. I remember watching and listening to him not long ago. Such a nice mellow and brilliant guy. Thank you thank you thank you Rupert. We love you and are so grateful for the wonderful gifts that you gave us for so many years.
Thank you guys, what a wonderful tribute and great to hear the background of him and the company. I had the joy of working with an EMI Neve in NZ in the late 70s, built around the 1093 modules. What a legacy the man leaves us, RIP.
Thank you for this moving tribute to Mr. Rupert Neve: Towering genius, an inspiration to engineer and musician alike, and always a gentleman. Rest well sir.
One more sadly gone from the old school of engineers. His innovation and dedication to the art has touched us all one way or another. Goodbye Mr Neve and nice biography lads.👏🏼
RIP Rupert Neve.. I did some research on him about 5 or 6 years ago. I realized the plug in I had was actually his last name.. Then I realized he was the guy who has a lot to do with the components of that neve console.. I love how backwards the knobs are...as I taught myself how to read the freq... My condolences to your family....Peace Stay Up
Thank you Rob! We are working hard to produce interesting and useful content and we are immensely grateful for the 16,500 subscribers we DO have! It’s a big deal for us!
Thanks guys - Rupert was a legend and this was a lovely tribute. I was surprised to hear that he had moved to Wimberley Tx as I had been there as part of a business trip (from Oz) in the early 90s.
Mr. *Rupert Neve's* legacy and his designs will live on forever of the big three companies he founded and left behind, *Neve Electronics,* *Focusrite* and *Rupert Neve Designs.* Thank for your time Rupert you changed the world of recorded music. R.I.P
Loved this chaps . Fitting tribute I’ve been lucky enough to own 2 Rupert designed consoles over the past 35 years and many of his channels eqs mics and most recently the RNDI
I have an Amek desk loaded with all Neve modules. My desk was available with either Neve or Langley modules and finding my desk with all Neve modules was like finding a needle in a haystack. Another cool thing about my desk is that in the Showtime software they have recorded Rupert Neve giving instructions on where to reset the settings of your console...... that’s pretty cool!
Sad to see how they put aside the religious life of Rupert Neve. He was in a missionary camp in Argentina and some of his enventions was made to have good quality sound at his church
Who put it aside? It was a chat about his musical achievements and this was not in the research as we focussed on the equipment and technological design
R.I.P an’ all that... can’t think of many/any who wouldn’t recognise the contribution his bits of electronics actually made to the ‘art’ of music & recording. Still... if you do need to console anybody... a Neve is probably the console to use, I suppose.
Us neither, we were thinking that earlier! It’s not like this video is an opinion-based video where you can disagree with something... it’s literally just stating facts about a genius!
💐💐RIP RUPERT NEVE💐💐

RIP Rupert Neve. I actually met him once at an organ concert I played in a church in Norfolk a long time ago. Very down to earth, humorous guy.
A legend has left our world, but his legacy will remain not only on his consoles and equipment, although inside all our souls and the music we made.
Thank you for this video.

R.I.P. Mr Neve. A True Legend!
Not being a fanboy here... but this man has contributed so much to the music industry that in most big hits since the 60's, his name has been there in the mixes, with gear or components.
A man who always thought about trying to improve his designs, and never thought “how much can I sweat the assets for”. We need more people like him
Yeah, and his products aren't cheap. But that's the way it should be. High quality FIRST...and THEN...that quality demands a premium. He did it right.
Legend. God take good watch over his journey back home, he did the world well
Thank you for this retrospective PDP. 🙏🎶

Very nice tribute to a unsung hero of modern music making
Thank you guys, what a wonderful tribute and great to hear the background of him and the company. I had the joy of working with an EMI Neve in NZ in the late 70s, built around the 1093 modules. What a legacy the man leaves us, RIP.

Great piece, guys. There's a nice romantic ode to a Neve console (and its studio) in the enjoyable and informative movie Sound City, by Dave Grohl.
Great tribute to an amazing man. Well done.

amek neves are super underrated
iconic
There are some great interviews with Mr, Neve so don't miss those, even if the tech-talk can get heady for some one can learn a lot even by 'osmosis'.

Good to hear it. The simple fact is that it didn’t pop up in our research, so didn’t even know it happened

Seems like his early years were similar to that of Arthur Collins... another legend.
