Right. Just put this into context in my brain. Once you doped the distance and was just missing the target, you effectively shot a 3 moa group at 1160 yards with a 3030, with open sights, offhand. That's bloody amazing. Mind Blown!
@@johndyer9232 I used to with a Winchester and 2x Leopold barrel mounted. Had some loaded with 125grn spire points for single shot. Was pretty good out to around 200yrds
"Two out of twenty, that's not bad" Yeah you're right, at 1160 with open sights on a lever 30-30, that's amazing! About 10 more were less than a target off, very nice shooting!
Impressive shooting (as always). At 1100+ yds its challenging enough just to see your target. Offhand? Just wow. Only a few can truly appreciate that kind of shooting. Well done!
I was thinking the same thing, it's very difficult trying to holdover to adjust for a few inches at 100, let alone 1000 yds. Very impressed with his expert marksmanship
As a huge fan of the 30-30 Winchester, I am always amazed at how many people underestimate this cartridge. Once again, fantastic shooting and your spotter needs a pay raise! 😊 She is awesome!
In 2017 my father passed away and my mom give me his Winchester 94 in 30-30 made in 1954 it's in 90 % condition - just before the coronavirus I got me 400 rounds and I still have not taken it to the range, today's 30-30 ammo is not easy to find I'm glad I got some before all this going on , my father got it new and only used it 2 or 3 times for hunting he lived in south Texas, thank you for your videos.
Great shooting Mark! Those hits on the plate seemed to make a pretty hard dent as well! So much for experts saying rifles like the 30/30 and 45/70 being usless over 200m. And open sights as well. Great stuff!
No-one seems to have mentioned it, but amazing breath control and body awareness. The level of stillness and focus is nothing short of superhuman. And your spotter is the best part of your team no doubt. Great teamwork.
Open sights and off hand at 600 yards is hard enough but 1100 WOW you must have phenomenal vision and muscle control. Looks like a perfect day too almost calm wind . Thanks Mark and Sam great stuff.
And he pulls the rear sight off and puts it in his pocket….what a guy..you’ve got er figured out guys…which I’m no dummy I knew this yrs ago when I subbed to y’all’s channel…got me into long range and handloading myself and I’m chasin powder and primers like the rest of em…lol..thanks again mark and Sam..all the best way round the globe in Kentucky…
Mark and Sam please keep up the great work! I teach the Jeff Cooper General Rifle Class at the NRA Whittington Center in May each year and though the class involves little extreme range shooting I share your videos all the time with my students as the principles of accurate shooting are the same.
Although it's often written off as too outdated, this video proves that the old-school 30-30 is still worthy. I'd suggest that today's marksmen and hunters haven't put in the trigger time for this style of rifle. Totally loved this video! Take care and be well!
The only real issue is you aren't going to get that kind of performance out of actual rounds you can load in it, and the energy falls off after about 300 yards for a proper kill on most deer too.
Me an my brother use to handload spitzer boat tail bullets in 30/30 back in the mid 70's. Same same, we would load the spitzer in the chamber an round nose in the magazines, had real good accuracy to, but nowhere near 1100 yds shots, only 200 or 300 max yds, really liked this vid an thx.
I salute your efforts folks! In 2005 22 November north east Alberta I plopped a 220 pound whitetail buck at about 260 yards. Single round of 150 grain Silvertip old style. Clean kill no wind I could feel from offhand. High sight in for these more challenging shots. Great shooting sir, great cartridge too. Be well
I love this video! 1000 yds off hand with iron sights is no simple feat with any rifle. I have a Buffalo Classic 45-70 with 36" barrel and peep sights. Very fun to shoot!

Mark, great shooting from a standing position🎯, but for me the most astonishing thing was that there was NO wind 😳 ... that's gotta be a record of some kind.

What a beautiful rifle!!!!!! Generally not the first choice for long-range shooting but I have a love the 30-30 for hunting deer here in the states. Great video!!!!!!
Cool video. I've got a 94 Winchester. I can ring steel at 300 yards with it no problem. Tried to get it out to 400 and 500 yards and that is beyond my ability with the poor tangent type iron sights. Always a joy to see you two shoot.
I must say Mark and Sam you two extract out of these golden oldies a degree of range and accuracy never before believed could be done. Great performance fellas very enjoyable viewing. Have you ever tried an around 1890 single shot lever action Martini Henry 310 with cast lead "Super", made in SA projectiles. Whilst they might be an old slow poke they still packed a solid punch at 400 yards, enough to drop head hit feral pigs using the flip up ladder sights. Even with all the variables, like shooting off hand, distance, and wind, your shooting was amazing. I realized just how accurate a lever action.30/30 can be with hard cast lead bullets, proper hand loading and an aperture sight. Great shooting Mate! Gil from the US

The bison would counter that claim. They were almost eradicated with calibers we consider short range now.
I dare say its the shooters who are useless over 200m not the cartridges.
