Humble Pie's JERRY SHIRLEY is on Drums and Joker's Wild WILLIE WILSON on Bass. They were good friends of Barrett. I love the fuzz tone on Barrett's Guitar! This track is very Psychedelic Sixties!
Von Clohk You know, what intrigues me about the distortion on Syd's Guitar is that it sounds like a precursor to Punk! The sound is very uncompromising. Unlike John Lennon, who was influenced by the 1950's original Rock 'n' Rollers and progressed to Psychedelia in '66, Barrett was Psychedelic from the beginning of his career! He was so inventive introducing the world of Pop/Rock to the "Binson Echorec Echo Box Unit" and the use of spacey "Glissando" at the beginning of "See Emily Play"!

According to legend, this verse was originally meant to be understood, but when they f**ked it up in the studio, Syd liked it and kept it that way...) - Psycho
Quote by MIKE WATKINSON ~ "[Jerry] Shirley and Willie Wilson , the former Jokers Wild Drummer, were both drafted into the making of the LP [The Madcap Laughs] midway through April, [1969], helping in the recording of 'No Man's Land' , with its bizarre incoherent spoken piece, and 'Here I Go', the second 'old timey' song on the album.
It’s sad to see the changes in him in such a short time. Self medicating. Yes. But his real issue was schizophrenia. I worked in two mental health settings and you can see the patients change demeanor and especially how they talk. There are some good videos out that let you listen to what schizophrenics have to go through every day. And then listen to Syd’s lyrics. It’s a horrible disease for which they still have no promising treatment. Shine on Syd💔💔

do you guys really think a disturbed person in the head would be even capable of picking up a guitar, be for real. Enough projecting of what you barely understand.
Topic: SYD BARRETT'S FLAT. Quote by JERRY SHIRLEY ~ "That flat was an absolute hovel, although originally it had been a very fine apartment. It was your typical hippy-type hangout - washing-up never done, dog shit in the corner, cat piss on the floor and Sunday papers all over the place. In those days most people's places flats looked like that but Syd's was particularly raunchy."
David Gilmour transcribed the poem at the end of “No Man’s Land” from the multitrack tape. It was published in Rob Chapman’s book, _The Lyrics of Syd Barrett_.
It is my personal belief this particular song should have been released on 45. I don’t know if it was or not but it’s under rated and they should slip in on some late night radio station. If more of his music was geared towards this type of sound, well who knows. Anyway it stands out to me as normal as anything else at that time. Surprisingly this slipped under the radar. Maybe it was on the radar and no one cared? Gee Mr. Spicoli, I Don’t Know!

Syd Barett received help from David G. for his two solo albums... The recordings turned out to be very difficult!!! Syd continued to take drugs!!! He was not in a good state... Syd was on the verge of schizophrenia!! He should have been eating apples and oranges instead... Syd had the wrong friends!!! Sad story for Syd and his family... I am interested in how he lived with the illness for the rest of his life... Unfortunately there are no more books about Syd in Germany...
Barrett was only diagnosed with depression, never schizophrenia. He wanted to keep PF an arthouse band, but the moneymen had different ideas. Being edged out of the band explains both the depression and him being difficult to get along with (along with his decision to leave the music business). His flatmate and family members have confirmed in interviews (some of which are on YT) that in everyday life he was not noticeably impaired. Why there was a concerted effort to portray him as having debilitating psychological and/or drug issues remains an open question. Could be money, image making, egos, performance art - we may never know? Certainly, PF after Syd became a radically different band. He returned to his art background, remained an introvert, lived a quiet life, and independently managed his own affairs throughout his remaining years.
