I think the worst part about this plane is that the pilots who generally fly it constantly bitch about it being bad and actively deny that it is overpowered at 9.3, but then consistently pull like 3-5 kill games.
I have seen players with less than 0.5 k/d on the regular, which is absolutely pathetic. You can fly away from nearly any missile except maybe the aim9G, how these people manage to die is honestly crazy. I haven't played this plane yet, but I played the 104G stock and I managed to get quite a few gun kills, at least 1 per game, and that thing is 10.3 still without flares. All I have to is try to stay away from all aspects, the 104A doesn't even have that problem anymore.
if there’s 2 of them left vs like 8 of you the game ends on either tickets or time because no one can kill anyone. It’s not a scary plane just an annoying one. I just want an end to those boring chase round the map for 15 type matches.
The more you call it bad the less people will play it. The less people playing it the longer snail will take to fix it. The only way they see this jet as an issue is if thousands of players start swatting entire lobbies over and over with it.
It's positioned perfectly to sour the rankV/VI area where the grind starts to get a bit tedious, and people start considering forking out for those early jet-tier GE premiums with missiles
There's two bug reports from the RideR2. Apparently the F-104A overperforms in both sustained and instantaneous turn rate and the G-limit is too high (supposed to be 11G). 20 days and still no answer from the devs while the MiG-23ML report got the acknowledged label in under 3 hours.
@@dutch24 it is a problem when you're in a slower jet and try to dodge the F-104 going much faster than you but still end up dying because it pulled 15g and got a gun solution when you thought it was impossible.
@enzohumeau8864 I don't know, generally caps out at 13G for that *very* short burst at like 870-860kph, and retains 11 until 80, after which it'll trinkle. The thing is, G is multiplied by speed, so your 9G is gonna be a lot sharper than his 11G. Just keep an eye out, I'm not a good player, but by paying attention, the only time I'll die to an F-104 is when I've already dumped way too much speed.
Vautour players can find and destroy this plane in the beginning of the match with their 80km radar, but most don't have the experience to even know what to look for. Most just chase bombers and end up wasting their ammo and chance to intercept.
I legit don’t know a single person who doesn’t think the f104a/c at its current Br is busted beyond belief. The only reason it stays at 9.3 is cause the people who play it now are brain dead and do horrible in a broken plane, thus driving the statistics down, which is what Gaijin balances based on. This is the same reason why they refuse to increase the BR of the Wyvern, which is also obviously broken.
where else would you put it? it has two shit missiles, takes a year to turn, and has no flares. im not saying it should stay at 9.3, but realistically any forward br placement and it will just get smacked to shit by any IR missiles that can pull more then 10g.
I often get my 1st kill with the Matra 530 in the Mirage IIIC (10.0) in air RB, and its usually an F-104A or C. MiG-21s often notice the "jig" and go defensive. But if i can get in a good position later the Magic 1s rarely fail.
What's really frustrating is that gaijin moved the sabres and migs *down* to, ostensibly, give them some breathing room from 9.3-10.0 lobbies but then didn't bother moving the actual problem children of tier 6 *UP* when they decompressed the higher BRs. The A-5 sabre and mig-15 have no business being the same BR as the vampire. The mig-15bis and f-25 sabre have no business being the same BR as the Mystere IIC or F9F-8. And the mig-17 and F-2 sabre have no business being the same BR as the Mystere IVA. It's laughable how bad gaijin is at balancing their own game.
Yep, low tiers also got ruined since we now have poor 7.0 jets getting constantly uptiered to fight Mig-15 and Mig-15bis ISH which is just ridiculous. What could a 262 or P-80 do? This needs to stop… I fly the F-89B a lot so at least I can climb away from a Mig-15 if he isn’t coming out of a dive at top speed but other 7.0’s don’t stand a chance.

Gaijin has never balanced or decompressed BRs in WT to help the player base. They just intentionally add additional layers of frustration in order to fuel GE and premium purchases. The 104 is such a small drop of water in an ocean of problems.
well, just played 5 games with the 104a. Not sure what time you played your games, but all of mine except one was an uptier. not horrible, but anyone w/ a missile that can pull more then 10gs and it was lights out for me.
Every time I hop in my lightning I briefly delude myself into thinking I can take on F104s - no dice. Funnily enough the best way to clap F104s is with the Harrier GR3 or Jaguar since they get AIM9Gs, but even then they're 0.3br higher and you end up with a lot more to worry about

I got the f104 just as the 10.0 br changes happened, and it is absolutely amazing for a grinder. It is pretty consistent, and you don't need much skill once you learn the basics and feel of dodging missiles in it. Then it is very hard to hit, even in up tiers it is slightly faster than the fastest planes The gun is amazing if you can have any type of trigger discipline as well, and the aim 9bs can counter all-aspects in a headon
I had a very easy time with it from the moment I unlocked it (which was during the A10 and Su-25 era) Dart found out it could outpull 30G missiles at a high enough speed at a consistent rate
nah i disagree, if the f-104 goes up to even 9.7 it might as get the "Maus Treatment" i had to play a lot of this thing and the f-5e recently to get the f8u-2 (a plane that does need to go up in br) and the fact you see 10.0-10.3 8 out of 10 games (out of 86 matches, on US servers, during prime hours, 17 where at 8.7) makes the f-104 a glorified head on machine, the other f-104s can cope with flairs/chaff/decent pulling missiles but the f-104 A/C can barely handle a team of A-10s let alone a few 10.0 fighters at 9.7 or 10.0 all possible advantages disappear, the speed? countered by mach 2+ missiles, the 2 aim-9Bs? will get flared or simply outran or out maneuvered, the gun? it's attached to a dart that pretty much anything can out pull, we're not even going to talk about how at 10.0 this plane will see radar missiles that you can't even detect with it's RWR I will agree that this br range of 8.7 to 10.7 is pretty bad and the f-104s probs aren't helping with that but moving these planes up will just make just make room for something like the ayit to take it's place and functionally turning the f-104A/C into the F-4C (tbh i really don't like the idea of a 10.0 f-104A getting sucked up into 11.0 every game i think you a lil tone deff for not talking more on how this would do in an uptier)
I had a guy get upset about someone else getting upset at him for killing them while he was in the F-104... guy was on the other team and I asked if he was in a 104. His team laughed at my accurate guess. Same guy got mad later on when someone killed him with a 9B saying that's the only way anyone can actually kill him... Like yea. It actually is. As if previous experiences hadn't already... this one definitely led me to believe the average F-104 player is a special kind of garbage.
It's funny, i've been playing the crusader a lot as of late and these are usually my number 1 target, except other crusaders. They're easy to take out then, the Aim-9d is a competent missile.
whats interesting is that it feels like the F104J and any of the others that are at 10.3 because of aim9P are horrible at those battle ratings because the F104J and (maybe others) don't have any countermeasures
Playing the T-2 vs this thing I always try to focus them out since I have one of the few missiles that can catch them reliably, if you don't focus these things when you get a chance you'll lose eventually
i could never make the f104 A work for me for some reason even though its the same vulcan as everything else gets it wont work for me, later f-104s like the italian ones work fine just this one doesnt i think its because the enemies are going slower maybe
If the BR compression wasn’t so bad maybe we wouldn’t have these situations, but hell i ain’t complaining the only Jets I play is US so im perfectly fine with having a busted plane on our side
If Gaijin wanted to fix BRs there is a simple way they could do it. Remove "Uptiers" and "Downtiers" and have planes only fight at their respective set BRs. So 10.0s only fight 10.0. You get the gist of it.
6:00 im not sure if theyve changed it, but another reason you'd want to fly the f104C rather than the A was that thje A used to overheat a lot, while the C didnt, though i havent played the f104A in such a long time that im not sure if it still has an overheating problem
one of the only times I will ever switch to destroying ground units is when there is an F104, F111 or Tornado as the last on the enemy team, you can almost guarantee they will spend the entire rest of the match out of your reach
What was the last time you talked about P-39's? Or F-4U's at 2.7? To have an undertiered overpowered vehicle is a long lasting American tradition. Frankly I am surprised F-15A is not a 12.3 jet given it has no Fox3 and HMD.
@@a.e.richardson218 It has 4 All aspect missiles that are easy to use and rack up kills with little to no effort, Can actually dogfight everything it faces, Absolutely nothing the 104 can do in a headon if I launch the R-3R's below 2km they will proxy detonate same goes for side aspect as long as your going as fast as the starfighter which isn't a problem if you avoid going low....hell with the drop tanks the Mig will outlast starfighter if he's passive boom and zooming.
@@JackIsMe1993 You definitely don't have 21S 1. 4 All-aspects are 10G radar aim-9bs, so you can easily dodge them, as long as you have at least 700 kmh speed. Mig doesn't have pd radar, so it cant easily lock you if you're near the ground. 2. F-104 have very good control at high speeds and can actually pull 13-15G at those speeds, so as long as f-104 have 1000+ kmh, it can easily dodge r-3r at any aspect. 3. Mig-21 is a terrible dogfighter, if it doesn't start on your six. It really struggles at ratefight, so planes, that at least somehow maintain speed, can defeat it without much issues
its also the fact that the turn rate of this plane is out of proportion(unrealistic).. how dows a plane with such small wings turn so hard? and if you say its based on size of the elevator, then Buccaneers should be able to do the same turns, which they arent doing.
sry but my experience playing the br 9.3 G91YS + F6 ligthning after the decompression, is that i get a LOT more uptiers than downtiers, at least 60/40 maybe even 85/15 full uptiers. However the new gold is 9.0 it seems, i diff didnt see above 60% uptiers at that br, in fact its prob the opposite with a 40/60 split.

1:51 The "G" is silent my brotha. It's an old French word. I've had very little success with this plane because it doesn't fit my playstyle. I've enjoyed the Hunter F.58, and T-2 twice as much at only a little BR increase. I feel like I don't get the AoA with the F-104 that I need to pull off the shots I'm used to unless I'm doing headons. Don't get me wrong it's great in down-tiers like most planes but you're going to be in a lot of 10.0 games because of the F8u spam right now.
What do you think about the current state of 13.0? From my experience that BR is completely dead, Netz, Baz, M4k etc. will imo be completely unplayable until we get 14.3 or some further changes.

this thing ruins my favourite br, its fine when the players using them are awful (just ramming into the furball at full speed and taking any headon) but when the user is good, its just gonna be hell for the next 25 minutes
9.3? Mach 2 9.0? Subsonic Nice. F-2 is 8.7, F-25 is 8.3, A-5 is 8.0… 50 or so km/h difference between the 8.7 and 8.0 Sabres but mach 2 capable aircraft are .3 br above the 9.0 subsonics. Wild how they continue to allow this. Literally no counterplay outside of runway strafing them.

That first match looked like having an enemy team of reserves, 2 Bf109s, and an SBD and you are in a P-40.

Certain planes should be given a narrower matchmaking spread. Not everything works with a full ±1.

If the BR compression wasn’t so bad maybe we wouldn’t have these situations, but hell i ain’t complaining the only Jets I play is US so im perfectly fine with having a busted plane on our side
If Gaijin wanted to fix BRs there is a simple way they could do it. Remove "Uptiers" and "Downtiers" and have planes only fight at their respective set BRs. So 10.0s only fight 10.0. You get the gist of it.
Then you discover BR compression is not an issue, its a goal, part of frustration based monetization.
6:00 im not sure if theyve changed it, but another reason you'd want to fly the f104C rather than the A was that thje A used to overheat a lot, while the C didnt, though i havent played the f104A in such a long time that im not sure if it still has an overheating problem
They changed the engine a while ago, which eliminated the overheating issues.

one of the only times I will ever switch to destroying ground units is when there is an F104, F111 or Tornado as the last on the enemy team, you can almost guarantee they will spend the entire rest of the match out of your reach
I love this thing to the point that after unlocking F5E, I keep getting used playing this monstrosity in lower tier.

To have an undertiered overpowered vehicle is a long lasting American tradition. Frankly I am surprised F-15A is not a 12.3 jet given it has no Fox3 and HMD.
I'm trying to spade the J34, and I'm just being Swarmed by 104s. I can easily handle 1, but its never 1, its 3. That, I cannot handle.
I find the J-7II and the first Mig-21 are good counters at that BR, but that's about it honestly. Edit: Also the British Lightning!
I can't believe the Mig 21s remains at 9.7 I have to assume most of the people that own it tanked the winrates (I'm sat at 83% wins) over 221 games.
Consider it's worse than the f104 and a higher br
@@a.e.richardson218 It has 4 All aspect missiles that are easy to use and rack up kills with little to no effort, Can actually dogfight everything it faces, Absolutely nothing the 104 can do in a headon if I launch the R-3R's below 2km they will proxy detonate same goes for side aspect as long as your going as fast as the starfighter which isn't a problem if you avoid going low....hell with the drop tanks the Mig will outlast starfighter if he's passive boom and zooming.

1. 4 All-aspects are 10G radar aim-9bs, so you can easily dodge them, as long as you have at least 700 kmh speed. Mig doesn't have pd radar, so it cant easily lock you if you're near the ground.
2. F-104 have very good control at high speeds and can actually pull 13-15G at those speeds, so as long as f-104 have 1000+ kmh, it can easily dodge r-3r at any aspect.
3. Mig-21 is a terrible dogfighter, if it doesn't start on your six. It really struggles at ratefight, so planes, that at least somehow maintain speed, can defeat it without much issues
I put my friend (he’s 2.0) in the F-104 and he got 3 kills, 2 aim9b kills and a gun headon kill. It’s amazing how braindead you have to be to play it

Bit too fast. Uncatchable - so in downtiers when nobody has good missiles, uncounterable, so it is not balanced

wont change a lot because every damn game is a full uptier to 10.3. the a10 and su25 premiums really ruin the game
its also the fact that the turn rate of this plane is out of proportion(unrealistic).. how dows a plane with such small wings turn so hard?
and if you say its based on size of the elevator, then Buccaneers should be able to do the same turns, which they arent doing.

9.7 would be reasonable for the 104. The real issue are the bloody F8Us those need to be 10.3 minimum
sry but my experience playing the br 9.3 G91YS + F6 ligthning after the decompression, is that i get a LOT more uptiers than downtiers, at least 60/40 maybe even 85/15 full uptiers. However the new gold is 9.0 it seems, i diff didnt see above 60% uptiers at that br, in fact its prob the opposite with a 40/60 split.
Genuinely, if I meet a F104, I sigh in relief knowing that it will NOT kill me AT ALL.

1:51 The "G" is silent my brotha. It's an old French word. I've had very little success with this plane because it doesn't fit my playstyle. I've enjoyed the Hunter F.58, and T-2 twice as much at only a little BR increase. I feel like I don't get the AoA with the F-104 that I need to pull off the shots I'm used to unless I'm doing headons. Don't get me wrong it's great in down-tiers like most planes but you're going to be in a lot of 10.0 games because of the F8u spam right now.
The f8u has no business in 10.0 anymore now, i hope they move it up

F-2 is 8.7, F-25 is 8.3, A-5 is 8.0… 50 or so km/h difference between the 8.7 and 8.0 Sabres but mach 2 capable aircraft are .3 br above the 9.0 subsonics.
