To be precise, the Starfighter was designed to climb as fast as possible, because of the altitude = energy idea. Which is true, up until you bring radar guided missiles into the equation.
One of the things that you didn't mention is that the F104 has an absurdly high flap takeoff speed. Its around 450 knots or 800kph. You can abuse this especially at higher altitudes to significantly increase your turn performance. Another thing is that you can max performance turn (13G pull) if you only pull horizontally. Cornering speed is around mach 1.1. You can use this to surprise people
You can also use this things flaps all the way up to like Mach 0.8 and can deploy them for a couple seconds even at max speed for a crazy AOA boost - have to turn them off quickly though but if you get the timing right your turn time is absolutely insane
Some of the tips you said for flying this aircraft have actually helped me play the f-104, when I got it, I didn’t know how to fly it, I usually got 0 score for every game, but recently I’ve been getting 2-4 kill games, same with some assists, it helped me grind out my a-10 today. Gaijin should really implement a mechanic that gives the kill to the guy that did the most amount of damage to someone, because it's really frustrating when you set someone one fire or put someone on a flat spin and then someone comes in an finish him off and you are left with just an assist.
Doing a lot of damage to someone, but him still killing a team mate doesn't do the team good😅. I agree with what you're saying, but it is a complicated thing to implement.

I think it should be how controllable their aircraft is. If they’re on fire then the credit gets frozen on who set it until the fire goes out or kills him. If they’re in a flat spin that should automatically count you as dead, especially if you have critical damage
I found it really sustainable and effective to take the F-104C with 2 firebombs for destroying 1 base. Once you drop, you can turn around and pick off enemy attackers.

As a pencil plane enjoyer try this: 1) climb to 5000m and don’t get too far in front 2) five once you see 3 or 2 people spotted and clean at least one up. 3) don’t turn back in, disengage, repeat
Tbh this video doesnt really apply to the F-104J. Its almost the same plane but at a different BR. Im sorry to tell you this but that thing is the worst F-104 variant in the game and it's not gonna get easier from here. Trust me, Ive been there.

It is such a minute upgrade, that it seems not worth the SL. At least back when it was a required plane to research to progress, now you dont even have to grind it so why bother
These things are good but when downtiered to 8.7 they're complete menaces. Literally no one in the lobby can do anything about it but I find a fun strat. Baiting them to ground boom and zoom manoeuvres makes 50% of them crash into the ground in the first or second pass

Induced drag is a byproduct of lift, this is why variable geometry wings are useful because you can optimize how much lift they are making, obviously if you are going slow you need more lift but when going faster you don't need as much lift generation, the only thing variable geometry wings would do for an F-104 would make it more maneuverable at low speeds
I've spaded this recently, wonderful plane, I've even spaded folded F-104 C bombsled variant, that's how much I've liked it : ) Accel and speed are nice for sure but your climb rate is out of this world, like 3x better then average plane on your BR. I would always climb high and swoop on the ppl from the stratosphere. No turning, one pass, whatever happens happens, move away, keep the speed.
I love the free kills the 104s are for my Mirage IIIE…can‘t outturn me, can‘t outrun me, they only can outaccelerate me. But - making me maneuver to take advantage of the speed burn the Mirage is famous for once I‘m on their 6 in order to actually outaccelerate me and having a chance of getting away - basically means giving me an opportunity for a kill…which usually results in a kill.
Pro tip to anyone new to star fighters in the comments: if you HAVE to make a hard turn and you are safe enough to bleed speed (ie there aren’t any enemies waiting to nail you) your takeoff flaps can survive for a few seconds above Mach, and they will help you pull much higher AOA and turn in, good for a one-time hard turn to pull lead or get your nose on target. The landing flaps afford you even better turning but they will instantly rip if you’re above Mach, so only use them if you’re subsonic AND pulling hard AOA. I usually use takeoff in short bursts above Mach and if I fall into transonic/subsonic speeds then I will alternate between takeoff and landing during tight turns. It loses lots of speed and energy so keep afterburner on and use sparingly, but I’ve killed a number of much more manoeuvrable planes by surprising them in a reversal using this tactic. Like i said this is a risky tactic only to be used as a last resort or to take out an isolated enemy.

My problem with it its not avoiding enemy planes, its actually getting kills with it, either "teammates" kill the plane i was going after first, or i miss all my shots before overshooting the enemy plane (stock grind is a pain here, i teally need 9B's)

The t2 is great at dealing with f104. It is only a little bit slower and can dodge well and the it just got the aim9ps which are good missiles and f104 cant dodge those. I always kill them flbecause they are really good at slowing other people down which really helps the team

I played the F-104J (Wich is 10.3) and as my first F-104 and what I hear and see of it, I thought nobody could catch me , but Mig-21 and the Kfir often catches me wich kinda suck but oh well...
The turning bit is the funniest thing with the starfighter, because I've hit over 17Gs in this thing and it just does. not. rip. >mach 1 it'll easily do 11Gs+ and in fullreal it'll pull even more. Feels like the only thing it can't do is 1v1 a transsonic who knows what they're doing.
I got the 104A a little while ago, at first I thought it was really bad besides its speed but it was just a huge skill issue and now that I know how to fly it and got into the groove of it, it's my favourite air RB plane, gonna use this to further my speed menacing
I love the two Mig 19s and the 21 at the end roleplaying as the average team mate and completely throwing the game in a 1v4

Kills were split eaven in quarters during WW2 for example

If you hit full elevator while going at around 700 mph you can pull 14g and turn quite quickly
You dont even need to slow down, if you dont let your take off flaps extend fully you can use them even at supersonic speeds.

I played the F-104J (Wich is 10.3) and as my first F-104 and what I hear and see of it, I thought nobody could catch me , but Mig-21 and the Kfir often catches me wich kinda suck but oh well...

when im playing the swiss hunter, i focus 104s because they are the only thing that will reliably kill me

The turning bit is the funniest thing with the starfighter, because I've hit over 17Gs in this thing and it just does. not. rip. >mach 1 it'll easily do 11Gs+ and in fullreal it'll pull even more. Feels like the only thing it can't do is 1v1 a transsonic who knows what they're doing.
I got the 104A a little while ago, at first I thought it was really bad besides its speed but it was just a huge skill issue and now that I know how to fly it and got into the groove of it, it's my favourite air RB plane, gonna use this to further my speed menacing
