How to attach Ikea shoe cabinet

- Attaching shoe cabinets to the wall is much quicker than you think. If you don't have much space available, separate units are very handy as they can be hanged one above the other up to the ceiling. Ikea Trones are ideal for narrow hallways and easy to re-arrange according to your needs. Easily stackable, they have to be fastened firmly to the wall, though or they will collapse.
Trones are made of plastic so you can build a combination that can be used almost anywhere, even in humid bathrooms, laundry rooms or garages.
In my video I will show you how to attach Ikea shoe cabinets fast and without unnecessary hassle.
Ikea trone sizes:
length: 52 cm 11 3/4"
width: 18 cm 7 1/8"
height: 39 cm 20 1/2"
Available in packs of 2 and 3 colours: black, white & grey.

best tutorial on this. thank you.
Thanks for a lovely comment
Yes me too thanks
I just watch another video with the person explaining everything and it was hard to watch. This one is so simple, pleasant music, no even talking and it is the easiest to follow. Thank you. I like the whistle at the end 😊
Glad it was helpful!
please come attach mines for me.
I'm sure you can do it Rosemary, it's not difficult
Thank you so much. As a woman with no plan this helped me so much :D
It's great to hear the film was helpful. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment
3:04 waarom hang je de bovenste kast iets hoger door er strips tussen te doen?
Ik deed dit zodat de bovenste kasten niet op de onderste drukten. Deze pauzes hoef je niet te nemen.
Before you start with the second trones, you put in on top of the first. Then you lift the second one to put small spacers on the left and right between the two (starting 03:05).
What kind of spacers are these and why did you use them?
Thank you!
When you hang separate units, they also drop a few millimiters and the weight of all units is supported by the fixings attached to the bottom one. 2-3 mm gap is enough. You don't have to do it, trones are relatively lights.
Was going to ask the same! Thank u for the answer!
@@katyng52 No problem. :) Good luck with your project
Nice video but those gloves are creepy.
It's safer to work in the gloves :). Thanks a lot for your nice comment
I don't mind the gloves.
I like the video; however, you didn't mention what type of nails to use. Are those wall anchors that you used and how big of a hole would I need to drill? (obviously, I'm a super novice) :-).
On the left is a plasterboard and behind it is an empty space. I used a plug for plasterboard. The size of the drill is the same as the core plug:
Check out another video how to check the correct size:

On the right, closer to the door is a solid wall. I used the traditional wall plug. The size of the drill is the same such the dowels.
Before doing any work you should check what kind of wall you have at home.
Good luck with your work.
@@k-nemo Thanks for this video and info. May i know the size (in mm) of the plug for plasterboard and also the size of wall plug?
There is no size for the plug for plasterboard. Any will do. I used standard wall plug 8 mm.
@@k-nemo can i use 6mm plug and 5mm screw to hang this Ikea trones shoe racks?
@@rajesh315
Yes. A 6 mm plug should be enough. The shoes are not heavy.
You will probably not screw a 5 mm screw. It's too fat.
Your video has made the steps so easy to understand. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for a nice comment
wow been looking for this tutorial, thanks for sharing
Thanks a lot for your comment. It's great to hear that the film was useful
My entry is very similar this. this was so helpful in me deciding which to buy
I'm glad I helped.
Would you think it's possible to hang up using heavy duty or picture frame command strips instead? ( for renters)
I wouldn't try to do it. The trones are relatively light so this shouldn't be a problem but when you put shoes or other heavier objects inside they might fall down.
@@k-nemo okay thank you
When u leave, remove screws GENTLY and fill in hole with dip of tooth paste. Sometimes works well enough you do not have to spackle and paint plus.. get deposit back
Thank you, I'm going to try this tomorrow.
Good luck
Thanks alot! It is a very great instruction video.
I ended up drilling the screws into the wall in the end 😁
Is it okay not to drill this on the wall? Would it stand on its own? Thanks.
It can stand on its own. It is a good idea to fix it to the wall so that it does not topple over when opened. It will be more secure.
Are you scared of having that plastic near the heater?
No. It is not too hot.
These are actually cuter than using them as shoe racks
Thank you
Wonderful. Thankyou
It's great you like it
Thanks for the great tutorial. Are the screws provided with the Trone storage?
No
screw size ? thx in advance.
depending on the type of fixing
What size shoes did you use in the video. Men's or women's or junior's
The biggest shoes on the movie was white trainers, men's size EUR42 = UK8.
@@k-nemo OoO OK thx that's very helpful. Now i just have to convert it to US size men size to know what you're talking about :D
Are they 2 versions of this trones cabinet ? Today i bought it from my ikea but it fits 2 pairs of sneakers and it doesnt look as wide as yours i cannot put a pair on top of each other. They can fit one next to another.
Спасибо!! Очень просто и понятно!!!
Спасибо за прекрасный комментарий, Лариса
hi, mi had the shoe cabinet installed for years. now i want to remove my wallpaper and i have to remove the shoe cabinet but i don't know how without damaging my walls
Just take the cabinets off the wall and unscrew the screws. The holes will be covered with the new wallpaper, you can filled them in with the filler if you prefer.
Hi 😊. Tq for sharing this diy video. I am really a novice here😅... So may i know the type of drill (brand/ model etc) you used. Is it efficient on brick walls/ cement? Tqvm in advance for your respond.
For brick walls/ cement any hammer drill with masonry drill bit.
@@k-nemo noted with thanks. Will try it out. Any suggestion? How about the drill power... Pls advice. Tqtq
How are these things holding up? I don't want to attach junk to my walls.
Very well. The cabinets are very light. Use proper fixings for your wall.
Merci beaucoup
De rien
novice here but why can't we just use nails?
Not for plasterboard. It may not stay in place afetr a while

I've added links to the video description.

Suggestions for old homes with plaster walls?

In my hall part of the wall is plaster and part is a brick that's why I had to use two different kind of screws
@@k-nemo how to find its plaster or brick wall as tapping in my house porch wall is not helping me to find this out :-(
@@rajesh315 If you are not sure you can drill first to check and then decide what to use. I knocked to check the sound. 1:14 on my film plasterboard is louder.
I wonder what kind of screws is that ? I mean if they have a number so i go and buy
By the way thx it really helped me
