One thing I loved about living in Italy was the trains. They were always on time and left on time, plus you can get to most places by train plus the tickets are cheap. Anyone can easily do a train trip around Italy if you want to visit as many Italian cities as possible.
@Ilarya the trains in Roma were on time. Nothing else was though 🤣 frequently I decided to walk instead of waiting for bus, either they were full or late. it has been a decade since I left italia so the trains may have changed
@@SweetAsCandyCane oh yeah the trains have gotten so much better, to the point I genuinely love taking the train to university, but busses in Italy are teeeeerrible.
I miss Firenze, it's so gorgeous ❤️ and Piazzale Michelangelo really is a gorgeous place❤️ I also recommend going to see the beautiful church "Abbazzia di San Miniato del Monte" right above, it's awesome 😁
Seconded, I do that every time I'm in Firenze and it's a lovely way to get some exercise in and take in the amazing view of the city from the top. And the church itself is so beautiful too. I love spending time in Oltrarno in general, especially when the city center is choked with tourists in summer.
My study abroad is coming to Florence in May! We're starting in Milano, and ending in Rome, but spending the most time there. Plus, my professor is actually Italian, so she gets us into a lot of cool stuff
I was obsessed with the divine comedy and Dante when I was younger, and my dream was to see Dante’s death mask in Florence. Kind of a tiny dream tho-now I wanna go for the food.
You should go and see his tomb in Ravenna (which is a far bit away from Florence, unfortunately). As he died an exile in their city the people from there refused to ever get his body back to Florence, to respect his wishes. So, now, every year, on the day of his death, the city of Florence sends a year-long supply of olive oil to burn on a lamp, that's been lit non stop on his tomb for more than 3 centuries. Not gonna lie, it was an emotional experience for me.
And don’t forget about the Pinocchio shop. I love Florence I had wonderful pizza there and I did walk pretty much the whole city. It’s amazing and it’s historical.
Love Florence! Been there several times. First time we stayed with our friend who, at the time, was the Anglican parish priest of Florence, so we stayed with him in his clergy house which is part of Machiavelli’s stables. Our favourite restaurant is in the Piazza Del Duomo 😊
I was on a plane once when I was two to go to Disney World. Didn't go on another one until 10 days before my 30th/our wedding anniversary trip! My poor hubby's arm during that flight 😂😂 You'll get on one eventually, hang in there!
It is highly overrated, I avoid them whenever possible, just so uncomfortable. and you'll get there if you want, but don't let that define you. One of the actors on Empire had never flown & had only left Chicago a handful of times in her life prior to becoming an actor on a big show. but she lived where she lived, that's what really matters, not how you travel.
If you're 25 or younger and want to visit the art museums but don't want to spend a lot of money go to Palazzo Pitti instead of the Uffizi. When I lived there it cost 3€ to visit the museum/palazzo AND the gardens. You'll get to see a couple Raffaello paintings among many other beautiful renaissance pieces that cover every single wall plus you'll also get to see the palazzo itself, so the furniture and decoration and fun stuff like what a bathroom looked like back then! And the gardens are pretty nice if you want a break from the busy streets of downtown Florence. Even if you're older than 25 it's way more affordable and to me it was a better and more immersive experience than the Uffizi :)
I'm in Europe and for a long time Florence has been on my to go list and I want to use it as a hub for trips on Tuscany. (We went to Rome on our highschool trip and I'm pretty sure we took a bus tour to somewhere in the general direction of Tuscany, but didn't go to the hotspots like Florence or Siena.)
Visited Florence as a day trip many years ago during a coach tour around Italy with my now late Nan. It may have been Tuscany where we visited a vineyard. I had just finished my first sample wine when without saying a word she swapped my empty glass with her untouched one. She did not want to drink but felt it was rude to refuse the differing wine samples. Am not tea total but still a lightweight. My Nan had to help steady me on the way back to the coach as the path was both cobbled and steep. Luckily wasn't hungover but slept deeply until the next stop
@@cescovan Firenze is the name of a Centaur in the Forbidden Forest. He and the other centaurs chased and beat the tar out of Dolores Umbridge after the trio tricked her into the Forbidden Forest where she proceeds to call them slurs and attacks one of them.
I just finished my study abroad here- and it would have been wonderful if it wasn't so freaking hot in the summer inside and outside. It's hard to sleep since most places don't offer actual AC and opening the terrace doors let in a bunch of mosquitoes. Outside heat is fine but inside makes it miserable
just a little PSA: You are a museum person, you just need to figure out how & what you like to explore. museums are for everybody, and there's almost always something for everyone. you don't have to look at everything in order. you can wander around aimlessly, just enjoying the beauty. you can ignore exhibits and look at the building itself. you can play a silly game counting ding dongs or headlights in classical art. just don't be rude, mean, or aggressively loud, and we love to see you. if a staff person is snooty or rude to you, they are a bad museum professional. we want to share our treasures and their meaning with you, please come see us, where ever you travel. ask loads of questions, most of us just want you to find what you're passionate about. some people talk to the desk person while their families tour, just to tell or hear stories. we love it.
Florence is also called Firenze in Hungarian so I had to watch a couple of your videos to realise Florence isn't a city I somehow didn't hear about in the past.
You made a video about being gluten intolerant. What is the accessibility like in Italy when it comes to wanting to try authentic Italian food but needing it to be gluten-free?
For me, Firenze is the most beautiful city in Europe. But i also love art!!! And its clean. 😍 I live in the Netherlands and im also part french. No, i dont like Amsterdam and Paris! 😂

We’ve been to Italy a few times but haven’t gotten to Florence yet! What is the best airport to fly into? Milan? Rome? Ps - we are not afraid to drive a bit we love autogrill espresso 😆
Florence has an airport. It has flights for Paris for example, there is also the airport of Bologna (from Bologna you can go to Florence by train). If you are looking for a direct flight from outside Europe Milan is better, you can fly to Malpensa Airport (Florence - Milan is about 4 hours by car)
Do you know why other parts of the world call it 'Florence' if it's called "Firenze" in Italy/by Italians? Is it a translation thing, or is there some particular historical significance to the name change (in English speaking areas, at least)?
My husband and I don't drink alcohol, and I'm nervous about this for our upcoming trip. I found Parisians to be more polite about it in the past than Germans (opposite of what I expected), but how are non-drinkers treated in Italy? Should I expect this to be an issue? Any good way of dealing with it? We just try to be as polite as possible. In America we over -tip since our bill is less, but that's not a thing in Europe.
That is a very interesting question. The answer is no, nobody will be rude at you for being a non drinker. Especially strangers like waiters, they won't care
When I was in Germany I noticed that everyone was calling it Deutschland. It reminded me of how the Pennsylvania Dutch where actually from Germany because a lot of of cultures couldn’t say Deutsch. I wonder why Americans changed the names of so many countries from their original native languages. But I guess I actually answered my own question. It’s because we can’t really pronounce all the cities and countries in their native tongue.
I’m so curious about your background because you look so European. I wonder whether some of your ancestors immigrated from a European country to America. If you know, I’d love to hear in a video. :)
I’m a coward. No, not at all but it seems like it. Husband was in Florence back in the 70s and we were going to go. It is someplace (well, all of Italy) that I have always wanted to see. Where would you go, what would you do, if you traveled to Florence for the first time? Sounds silly and I understand that I am a silly old lady. But I would like to see and visit one of the oldest and most beautiful countries in the world.
