For my editing application I find using the second monitor for displaying scripts, emails, and stock image searches much more productive. If I had a client sitting with me I would opt for outputting video to a hi-res monitor but fortunately that not my situation.
Exactly what I was looking for without wasting time watching 4 times larger video than this. Very well explained within very sweet time frame. One question - what happens when you click on Cross button from top right of the play screen that was dragged into second screen? will it dock back to the application as original or will disappear? If it dock back then no need to drag back, just click cross. If it disappear, then how to bring it back?
Hello Just reset your workspace if you delete accidentally any windows inside premiere pro, just reset your workspace it will come back. Go up to the Window in the menu bar. Scroll down to Workspaces->Reset to Saved Workspace. Your workspace will be reset to the one that is saved on file. You can also use the command Alt + Shift + 0 to accomplish the same thing
Thank you for your useful video. I find it best to have only the second monitor ticked in Playback otherwise when you go back to Desktop with PPro minimised quite often the Program image will suddenly appear on your extended monitor display. I have also found that I have to use the reduced size PPro interface on monitor one otherwise the second monitor will only show the extended desktop display.
There are many hardware configurations possible. In my case, when I made this video I had two video out ports. One from the motherboard on the PC and another when I added a video card (GPU). Now I have I can use my laptop screen and an hdmi output to an extn monitor. Many options. If you don't have a spare hdmi port maybe a Dongle will do the trick?
I use vegas at the moment, but will be going to premier pro with a PC upgrade. I presume you have to have graphics cards with either hdmi or display port to benefit from this feature and so long as both monitors connected up premier pro will know there is a second monitor. I wonder how I can do it with a MacBook Pro as my view monitor and a new monitor I'm buying for the main editing interface.
Haha that's funny. I'm not sure of your location however this link should get you to the Wacom Tablet that I am using amzn.to/2YeJ9hL It's actually a newer model as I'v had mine for a few years, but I must say it has been an excellent purchase. It is also useful for the programmable buttons, which are really powerful.
I don't know of any way to do that other than position the window and drag out to make it as large as you need it. There doesn't seem to ba any keyboard shortcut that will do it on one go.
Excuse me sir, but the second monitor option is not being shown in the playback menu. Is it because I connected it to a tv (HDMI connection) instead of a monitor?
I tried like the first option in your UA-cam video. My monitor does not appear in the field at "playback"! The Monitor is connected to my Macbook Pro, what am I doing wrong? Thank you for your answer!
@@TheVideoDarkroom Thank you very much for your answer. I think this problem does not depend on the computer system, but much more on how the 2nd monitor is connected. In your video the monitor is visible in the field of playback, in my case not! My 2nd monitor is connected with HDMI. It could also be due to a setting of the computer or Adobe! Maybe that's how you will find the solution! Thanks in advance. Greetings from Switzerland.
Hey I have the same model of samsung monitor as you do , and an Aoc like the bigger one you have , my question is , How can I use premire in the bigger screen and playback on the minor screen , premiere says the smaller screen is the number one , when In windows System I have the big one as main monitor
This is an interesting question. What I have found is that, if you have both monitors listed under preferences - then premiere will put the playback on the other one from Premiere. So you can just drag premier to the other monitor and the playback will shift to the opposite. There does, however appear to be a glitch that I can't fix. When I have playback on my smaller screen all is fine, except the playback doesn't fill the entire screen. When I have playback on the larger screen the magnification is too large and I can't see all the video frame. I'm thinking that this may be a bug in Premiere but I'll continue to dig around to see if I can find a fix. (BTW. Both monitors in my current setup are 4K).
Thank you. this was good and worked for me. By chance do you have a 3 monitor video. I have 3 great monitors but only using 2. Would love the benefit and work flow of 3. If not, any suggestions. Thank you I'm subscribed.
Yes, you can. If you are in the Effects workspace, just click and drag the panel onto your second monitor. Just to be sure to drag it by clicking on the panel name (Effects) at the top of the panel. Works OK for me. :)
Hi, there! I’m usina a notebook with a monitor, but Premiere it’s not recognizing/showing this Monitor 2 on Playback tab... Do you know how I can fix this?
What are some reasons this might not work? I have opened the preferences, checked the boxes for both monitors, no playback window appears on the second screen.
If you are on Windows try typing Win-Rightarrow together. This will move you Premiere window to the right side of the screen but it also clears up some weird window behaviour. Just a thought. Try it and let me know.
I am having a graphics card with only one out which is connected to the present monitor. For a second monitor is it enough to put one more graphics card or I have to put any graphics card specifically for Adobe Premiere pro ?
Great stuff, does anyone else find Premiere is a lot more laggy when using it with two monitors?! Mine crashes a lot or the programme monitor goes black.
Hi they're Edifier Aurora. The base unit is behind the monitor leaving only the two little tweeters on view. www.edifier.com/int/en/speakers/m3-plus-aurora-compact-laptop-speakers
Here's a suggestion. Click the wrench tool in the Program Monitor, and about half way down the list ensure that Transmit is checked. If it is not checked the monitors in preferences will be there but greyed out. Please let me know if this works.
When I go to playback and click either Adobe Monitor 1 or 2, the full screen image is going to pop up on my main screen and not the external monitor. You can image how frustrating this is, why is this happening?
Yes, It works in a similar way for AE both for dragging your preview window to the second monitor and for adding a second monitor in preferences. Just go to Preferences | Video Preview instead of Preferences | Playback.
I've been using Premiere for 20 years, and dual screens for about 8 - and I've never once thought to do this. *facepalm* Granted, I usually use my second screen for showing a script for the video I'm working on, but I'll definitely have to try this out.
Finally, a simple and straightforward tutorial that gets to the point right away. Thanks for this!
YES! Agreed 100%
Great tutorial. My questions were answered by watching this video.
Super clear instructions, straight to the point, very well presented. Solution found in no time. Great job!
genius. ive come back multiple times because i forgot where this was located in settings. THANK YOU!
Cool. Glad it helps. Sometimes I come back to my own videos to remember how to do something. 😂

In practice this is exactly how I use my second screen. I put the program monitor there when I am editing with a client.
That was really helpful and had solid info. Thanks so much!

Yes. It's a Wacom tablet. Incredibly useful for Photoshop. I'll leave you a link tomorrow.

thank so much your support sir
Excuse me sir, but the second monitor option is not being shown in the playback menu. Is it because I connected it to a tv (HDMI connection) instead of a monitor?
dude thank you
I just need a full screen for my time-line. It sucks having to scroll through clips and tracks
Especially with more complex timelines it would be so useful to have it secluded.
Thank you!!

Is it possible to explain such a lesson on After Effects?
its the same process
Very Great Thank you!!
How Can I close preview on second monitor? In Sony Vegas it's simple to use "ESCAPE" and windows is closing, but its not working there.
Thank You :)
