Thank you for keeping your video short and simple. My mom has asked me to create her a top for church on Sunday and my aunt with the big mouth went and told all the church ladies so now I've got to kick my design skills up a knotch to keep my haters entertained. Thank you 😊😊😊
LOL Vexintong. Looks like you got your work cut out for you. Glad my video was helpful!
Your videos are so helpful. Thank you! You don't add a lot of chatty fluff and I'm so grateful. I don't have a lot of time, and our instructions are clear and to the point. I've learned a lot from you! Bless you!
I usually have a lot of trouble learning from tutorials but this was so helpful!!! Thank you everything was so clearly explained, to the point and well done
You are a great teacher!!! You explained the process in a very clear manner.
Thank you. I personally don't like lengthy videos where the explanation is so long...I usually turn away from boredom, so I try to make my videos precise, short, clear, and to the point. Glad to know it's working. Thanks for watching...Happy Sewing!
Simple, clear and to the point. Thankyou!

This was a perfect tutorial! Thank you so much. I'm trying to make pleats that will then be part of a puffy arm sleeve for a costume and was getting overwhelmed, but your tutorial was calming and explained everything!

Yep...I don't like a lot of "chit chat" in my videos or the videos that I watch.
Thank you for sharing this 😊
Oh my gosh. So helpful. Thx so much for adding written words to explain your actions, marks. For demonstrating various options, then explaining why you chose a particular option.
Your speech is at the perfect speed. Not too fast, not too slow. Easier to hear. Your mic records clearly, and you're at optimal distance from mic; it's such crisp sound even on my old phone with rotten speakers. Kind of shocked, as that rarely happens in YT educational vids on my current device.
Thank you.
You're so welcome! And thanks for the nice comment.
OMG. I'm just starting out to sew, love doing it currently a college student and it feels so right with my love of math lol. And this video just made the world of Pleats so much easier tape!!! Def using tape!!

Excellent
If possible, please make a tutorial on cutting & sewing chiffon accordian pleat fabric for palazzo pants. I learned how to keep the pleats in tact using tape from your video, however, it took months of nightmare guesswork to determine the right amount of fabric needed, make adjustments to both a homemade & store bought pattern - more importantly, cutting the chiffon fabric correctly for the ever popular palazzo pants for summer & evening wear ...
There are far too many videos on making an accordian pleat skirt which is truly a no brainer, but not any other type of garment ...
I'm certain others would appreciate your expertise ...
Hi Lisa. Cutting the chiffon for pleating is the same as cutting any other fabric. The only thing is that you have to make sure the fabric does not shift. To do this, simply use some patter weights to keep the fabric still. Hope this helps.
Owsome
Thank you!

+Monica Wilson Thank you!
Ms Niler, you are just a genius. God bless you for what you do. If I want to make the pleat 2”, would it be 2” and 1’ like you did 1’ and 1/2’. Also, if you want to use two different fabrics, how do you go about it. I need your response please. God bless you.
You can make the 2" pleat as deep as you would like. 2" inside as well as the outside pleat sounds good. Thanks for asking.
may i know which fabric u feel is best for making accordian pleats please.
thanks !
+manav sethi Cottons are great. Stretch fabrics----NO! To find out if your fabric will work, I like to try and pleat the fabric before I buy it by making a crease to see if it will hold.
Do you put anything on the fabric when you iron it down? I've never been able to get my pleats to stay after I iron them.
thank you so much, this really helps with my kylo-ren cosplay that im doing. but somthing that confused me is when you pressed the pleats did you use a iron, and if so do you have any other methods that don't involve a iron?
Yes, I did use an iron. An iron works best, but you can finger press it. Hope this helps...Happy Sewing!
Exactly the reason I was here too! I thought I could find material ready done for the sleeves, but this has helped me so much
Hello, do you have a video where you show how to hem the pleated fabric?
No I don't Stephanie. Sorry, I do not. you can do a rolled hem. Here is the link. ua-cam.com/video/vpzj0Cu5zog/v-deo.html
Can you please make a video on how to make madam Fred inspired pleats
Nice tutorial...Do you mark the bottom of the pleats as well?
Yes, If mark them both. Thanks for asking.
Nice ma
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
When creating pleats, how do you know how long to make it so that you have enough pleats to cover the area in which you are working in?
+Mona Woods I'm an old school seamstress. What I do is I start by doubling the area that needs pleats (sometimes triple) depending upon how deep and how many pleats I want. I like to just freestyle and play with it. Make sure you have enough fabric to do so. I suggest buying extra.
What type of fabric did you use do this example? I am going to buy fabric at Joanne and would want to test this project out myself on Velvet fabric amd this type. Looks sexy and almost knit-like. Thanks in advance!
I used a cotton fabric. If you use a velvet fabric, the pleats might not lie down good, you would need to top stitch them. Stick around for a video explaining this. Thanks for watching.
Is it possible to do this without a sewing machine and have it work? My sewing machine broke, so I'm handsewing until I can get it fixed. I've done a lot of sewing by hand before, so I'm not totally new, but will the tape trick still work when I'm doing this by hand? Sorry for the newbie question - I've only really been sewing a lot this last year - but thank you for all your advice in this video, this made so much more sense to me than reading a how-to article. You're the best.
Thank you Serafina for your question. Yes, if you want to sew it by hand, yes it will work, it will just take you longer to do it. I wish you the best...Happy Sewing!
Oh, okay. Thanks for letting me know! It's no problem if it takes longer, I just have a lot of fabric (I can't resist a good fabric sale) and want to try. Thanks for the reply and again for the tutorial; happy sewing to you, too!
What way should the fabrics grain be for the pleats ?
In this video, the grain was vertical
Can you do this technique with chiffon or sheer fabrics?
You can, but both of those fabrics are flimsy and hard to keep straight. It will be a challenge. Thanks for asking.
hi...I had a question...will these pleats get spoiled when we wash the fabric ?
No they won't if you stitch them down good at the top and bottom of your project. You may have to press them as a group, not individually. I haven't had problems with it. If you want to make sure they don't come apart, top stitch each fold and they certainly won't come apart. Thanks for your question.
Niler Taylor thanks a lot mam for your kind reply and your video really helped...I am using a satin cloth for the project and I'm making a skirt so I won't stitch at the bottom that's why I was scared that these will get spoiled...but nonetheless I'm starting to pleat today and see what happens. thanks again for your reply and the video😊
beginner here!! how do i keep the pleats after washing though?
They will wash out, but you can repress them. If you want them permanent, you would need to stitch down each individual pleat.
can i do it on chiffon material?
You can, but they won't lay as flat because the chiffon is so soft. You would need to stitch down each pleat in order for you to get the nice, sharp edges. Hope this helps. Thanks for asking.
how seam allowance should I leave on the front and back seam
Hi Avreil, I just use the standard 5/8" seam allowance, of course you can leave more if you would like...it's up to you. Thanks for asking.
what is the name of this pleats
Accordion Pleats.
Thank you for watching!
And that's her other skirt :P
Thanks for watching!
Just thought you might want to know that the pleats you are doing are knife pleats not accordion pleats.
