As a Persona fan, I'm here to say that I'm very happy for the SMT community. You guys deserve it. If it wasn't for your franchise, mine wouldn't have existed.
Thank you! You have got the be one of the VERY FEW Persona fans who understand that. A lot of other Persona fans act like Persona games are better and refuse to even play a single SMT game to see how awesome they are in their own way. From what I have come to understand from playing the Persona games is how ones like 3, 4, 5 and 5 Royal are about daily life with a twist for the supernatural. Players can put their selves into the shoes of the MCs and allow them to build their social circle as they see fit as well as see what life is like in a Japanese school (to some extents, like with activities and whatnot). These games gives players a sense of a reality within each game. As for the SMT games, each have their own fictional story that leans into the dark, morbid and perhaps gritty with some messed up elements in each one. For example ... In Nocturne, Sakahagi skins his own kind and wears their skin as clothes. In Digital Devil Saga, the way to survive means devouring enemies ... which means cannibalism, cannibalism and more cannibalism. In Digital Devil Saga 2, one of the bosses prefers 12 year old meat. Jenna Angel is revealed to be Sera's father (already known to be her mother) ... which makes her a hermaphrodite. In Digital Devil Saga 1, players are led to believe that Serph is a good guy and that Heat becomes a bad guy (Heat changing from good to bad starts in 1 and evident in 2) ... only to realize that in the real life of 2 - Heat was a good guy who opposed how cruel Serph actually was. In Devil Summoner, when Raidou takes the cyborg body of Rasputin to Victor, Victor tells Raidou that he removed Rasputin's unnecessary parts ... which was his penis - which actually happened to the Rasputin in real life. In Devil Summoner 2, by taking one of the cases, Raido (the Devil Summoner from a different reality/dimension) enters Sakuradayama through an interdimensional rift (for a lack of a better term) and is followed by Mara - a chariot riding penis demon. All in all, both series have qualities that make them some of the best games around ... and have the potential to be timeless classics in gaming history.

@@platinumskulls4490 If you have a Nintendo Switch, choosing between III HD Remaster or V could be as easy as flipping a coin and choosing what you choose for heads, and what you choose for tails. In Nocturne, not only can you fuse demons to create stronger demons, some evolve. Fusion result demons can learn skills from the two demons used in Fusion, if you do not like the skills the Fusion result demon can have, you can back out and recheck the inherited skills. Think of it as a reroll. Just like what stat increases a Persona might get from a Fusion Result (depending on how much EXP the Social Link/Confidant Rank will give to make the resulting Persona to be at a higher level). Say the resulting Persona you want focuses more on using magic, but you want it to have more Vitality and Agility ... but one of the stat increases is Strength, you could do the reroll process until you get the stat increases you are satisfied with. But if you want to play a SMT game well before the release of III HD Remaster and V ... If you have a 3DS, you could choose Devil Survivor Overclocked (I forgot that title). DSO plays generally the same as Devil Survivor, but has voice acting. I think it has a few extras, but I cannot remember, it has been a long time since I played that one. There is Devil Survivor 2 Director's Cut (which has more story and more bosses). I never got to play that one, so I am not sure if there are more demons. Strange Journey Redux has more story, more bosses and a new character. I do not want to leave spoilers. There are things about the SMT games that sst them apart from the Persona series, and vice-versa. Nocturne has an element in which the choices you make throughout determine the ending you get. There are about six endings. Digital Devil Saga 2 has one difference near on the last part of the game, it depends on two particular choices you make in DDS2 ... and two in DDS1. I only played Devil Summoner and Devil Summoner 2 once before my PS2 stopped reading every disk (game disk, music CD and DVD). I am not sure if those games have different endings or just one for each game. When I played SMT IV, I had to go through a series of fusions just to create Asura what was a powerful Physical attacker with a high Strength stat, but had a decent Magic stat for him to use Agidyne several times, and made sure for him to have a passive skill known as Drain Ice so that any time he was hit by an Ice attack, he would heal instead of taking serious damage since he was normally weak to Ice. I gave him Charge so that his next attack was brutal. I also had him with other skills that brought out his full potential. It took lots of Macca, having to summon this demon and that demon to create this demon and that demon, so on and so on. I made a list of what Skills I wanted Asura to have, and checked to see which demons had those skills, I fused them with demons of the right race and level just to make sure that by then time I could fuse the final two demons to create, I had all of the skills necessary in order to make Asura perfect. That was just ONE demon, I then had to that over and over until my entire roster was filled with all of my favorite demons ... each one perfected with the right set of skills for each one. I then had to max out their stats by grinding for Incense, in the end - it was more than worth it.
I may prefer persona to smt, but I'm really glad that we get more accessibility to smt. I'm not too far in nocturne, just up to matador, so it'll be nice to start over with the remaster.

Persona isn't SMT. I don't even mean that in a bad way. i love persona. i liked Revelations Persona back in the day, loved 3, 4, and 5. but I will never apologize for saying SMT > Persona any day of the week ^^ SMT3N and SMT5 HYPE
eh it depends on which SMT game, because in my opinion the PS2 era of SMT is my favourite mostly for the 3d presentation and playstyle of the games, I wish SMT Nine had gotten an international release though. sadly it never got ported to another system. however I think there's a fan translation so I might be able to run it if Xbox Emulation is good enough, which I suspect it either is already good enough or it's getting there.
@@WednesdayMan If there is a translation for Nine out there spread the knowledge bro, I'd personally love to play that weird mmo hybrid game.
@@XeviousvSBlackmanta the only translation I know of out there is a youtuber known as Frog Sensei translating the text dialogue as he plays... I'll keep searching, that or figure out how to read japanese so that I can play Japanese SMT whenever
I do wish elitists would stop with the whole mantra of "If you haven't played Nocturne, you're trash and shouldn't be here."
@@joshuagabrielcatindig7607 I mean they have a point, you should play nocturne. that's not a question. either get a PS2, a PS3, a PS4 or Switch and get Nocturne on one of those systems or emulate it on PC.
I'm just glad to see the SMT series coming back again. That Nocturne collectors edition shall be mine!
ONE MORE GOD REJECTED.
Ian Moone one question can you control your full party in SMT games?
@@platinumskulls4490
Okay. Here is the best way to answer that question. That is if you mean to select what your summoned demons do while in battle.
SMT III: Nocturne
------------------------------
Type: Turn-Based RPG
Full Control: YES.
Downside: If the MC dies ... Game over - even if the demons you summoned are still alive.
Fusion: YES
SMT IV
SMT IV: APOCALYPSE
--------------------------------------
Type: Turn-Based RPG
Full Control: YES.
Fusion: YES
SMT: Digital Devil Saga
SMT: Digital Devil Saga 2
------------------------------------------
Type: Turn-Based RPG
Full Control: YES.
Upside: You can change Skills at any time (outside of battle). Say if your next boss is WEAK to Ice. You can equip Ice skills to exploit the weakness of the boss to make the battle real easy.
Fusion: NOT AVAILABLE
SMT: Devil Summoner
SMT: Devil Summoner 2
-----------------------------------------
Type: Strategy RPG
Full Control: YES
Fusion: YES
(Note that Devil Summoner and Devil Summoner 2 are NOT turn-based, and NOT strategy RPG. Look up a video of any battle from either game on UA-cam to understand what I mean.)
SMT: Devil Survivor
SMT: Devil Survivor 2
SMT: Devil Survivor 2 Director's Cut
-----------------------------------------------------------
Type: Strategy RPG
Full Control: YES
Fusion: YES
SMT: Strange Journey
SMT: Strange Journey Redux
-------------------------------------------------
Type: Dungeon Crawler Turn-Based RPG
Full Control: YES
Fusion: YES
Ian Moone what do you know I might actually give SMT a shot now
@@platinumskulls4490
If you have a Nintendo Switch, choosing between III HD Remaster or V could be as easy as flipping a coin and choosing what you choose for heads, and what you choose for tails.
If you have a 3DS, you could choose
Devil Survivor Overclocked (I forgot that title).
Unless they're bringing Raidou Kuzunoha back they can resume wandering.

Not all of them. I am a SMT fan, even though I like the Persona games (not ones like Q and Dancing All Night) ... I enjoy both series equally.
They are games, they are meant to be played and enjoyed for each is an unique experience in their own right.
Persona isn't SMT. I don't even mean that in a bad way. Each game uses similar things like characters and powers but their gameplay and especially story are different enough to where comparing them for a sense of standards isn't even right. Persona is more linear while SMT gives you an open map. There's a lot more to it but that alone changes so much
