    I think the yellow in the title was awesome. It was a 70s aesthetic... things used to had colors like that. Idk, I am not a designer, but I guess design it is not only about those rules. I see tons of videos teaching hierarchy, typography etc but I see almost no one talking about culture, styles, decades.. Nice vid tho. 🌿

      I do agree, I loved the colour. However it was kind too much in the same brightness to be easily readable. I would've liked it if he kept the yellow and changed it to a different shade though.

    • @XCupiditas
      @XCupiditas 3 роки тому +41

      True! I love that yellow title. And the size of the title is fine if the cactus flower go above the title (It doesn’t matter if the main image is a little over the title, this is often seen on magazine covers.)

    • @orcusdei
      @orcusdei 3 роки тому +14

      This whole video is just bonkers. The "Cactus" poster has so many issues - like the font of "descriptions" is too small for any size of the poster, the badge should probably overlap the "cactus picture", the biggest contrast is on the least interesting part of the poster - flowerpot which takes up 50% of the format (WTF), the webpage doesn't make any sense, because of the stupid hierarchy. Is the picture a picture of a current dish? Or a new Arrival? Why is "new arrivel" higher in hierrarchy than a personal choice of a customer? The minor "basic" issues like aligning business card to "mathematical" middle instead of an optical are a classic beginner issues. Not to mention the lack of understanding how divs work. These videos might help to probably absolute greenhorns but can be harmful to people who are actually serious about studying graphic design.

    it's a good lesson for beginners but the "mistakes" you said that mostly different preferences for different designers. for instance cacti headline for the magazine cover is totally your preference that you picked white but yellow also looks nice if you're not blind you still can read it. sometimes using opposite colors is a way to create high contrast. I think you can't say wrong or right to these type of design choices. I hope it make sense what I mean.

    • @hcwally
      @hcwally 2 роки тому

      I think it was because the yellow was too close in value to the background. You can create contrast with using different values and/or hues. (For example, a more transparent blue will show up on an opaque blue better than a dark green will show up on a dark blue). One way to check it is to make it gray scale -- things of the same value will be the same shade of gray. I'm not a graphic designer, but I watercolor and the same concept applies. If one of my paintings appears flat instead of having depth, I take a photo in black and white to see if I'm lacking contrast.

    I really dig this style of video! It feels like I’m in a class without the need to leave home. Haha. Your questions were engaging and really forced me to think and use my previously gained knowledge to think critically about what could be improved upon! Great job! Cheers to many more helpful content! 🍻🙌🏽😄

    i never studied design but i end up having to do design type work for my job now and then. i am more used to making visuals for art’s sake rather than professional purposes, so watching this video has given me a better idea of what looks professional, as well as what to do when i run into certain problems or things just feel off. im definitely subscribing
